As fate will have it, Miller is playing his 150th this Saturday against his old side.
It'll be his 17th in Y&B after 133 games with the Dees. Brad's now in his 11th season of AFL after debuting way back in 2002.
-
Good on him, has been a good pickup and is embarrassing our young fwds with his workrate and willingness to be a target up the ground
-
I think he was on SEN this morning around 7.45am
Mr OE - find the link ;D
-
Great interview
Appreciated the RFC
Plays his role as asked
They tried to put him on the spot about Jack playing up the ground
Hinted that he would be playing inside F 50 alot more

It's Miller time
By Paul Daffey

Fri 13 Apr, 2012
TWO YEARS ago Brad Miller seemed washed up as an AFL footballer. He'd played only six games with Melbourne for the season and he'd spent the rest of the time with VFL affiliate Casey Scorpions.
Melbourne offered to play him in the final round as a farewell but Miller couldn't see the point. He'd played most of the season with the Scorpions so he preferred to play in their qualifying final against North Ballarat.
"I thought it was all over," Miller said. "I'd started preparing for life after AFL footy."
Miller had undertaken a coaching course through the AFL Players Association, working with highly regarded strategist David Wheadon.
Then came an unexpected turning point.
Richmond football manager Craig Cameron had been on the football staff at Melbourne. When Cameron was at the Demons he admired Miller's aggression and leadership.
Given that Richmond would enter the 2011 season with a young list that needed guidance and protection, he encouraged the Tigers to draft Miller, who was then 27.
The Tigers took him with the No. 28 selection in the 2011 rookie draft.
Miller played 16 games in his first season at Tigerland, bringing his career tally to 147. On Saturday, when the Tigers take on his old club, Melbourne, he'll run out on to the MCG for his 150th game.
"I'm glad I got a second crack," he said.
Miller has played at both clubs as a lead-up forward. He's hard-working and he relishes contests, but wonky kicking has been a mark against him.
At Richmond he's had to work on doubling back to ease the congestion that is now a feature of AFL forward lines.
Richmond forward coach Mark Williams said Miller's bodywork is vital.
"He's super important because of the way he plays," Williams said.
"He does the basics really well, he directs traffic, he contests really well, he's aggressive, and he's a good sounding board for the coaches."
When Miller was asked to name the strongest feature of his game, he didn't nominate kicking or marking or splitting packs. His strongest feature is his ability "to play a role".
While he was unwilling to be specific about that role, it's clear he gets a lot of satisfaction out of blocking and shepherding and clearing avenues to goal.
"I've really found a niche," Miller said. "I'm playing the way the coaches want me to play."
Miller played 133 games and kicked 89 goals for Melbourne. He said the highlight of his career with the Demons was playing in finals.
His first final was against Essendon in 2004: "It was a real buzz to run out on the MCG in front of a big, finals crowd."
He has great fondness for the day the Demons defeated St Kilda in an elimination final in 2006.
The next week Fremantle defeated Melbourne in their semi-final at Patersons Stadium. Miller was clearly Melbourne's best player, leading up time and again to take the ball before giving it off.
He was reluctant to name his best game, but that performance against Fremantle must go close.
His highlight at Richmond has been kicking the first goal in his first game with the club, against Collingwood in round four last year.
"It was a great way to start," he said.
Miller has never been particularly renowned as a goalkicker even if he did win Melbourne's goalkicking award in 2008 with 26.
His biggest haul is five, which he kicked against Port Adelaide in round nine, 2009.
Last week he confirmed that he's in handy form when he kicked four of Richmond's eight goals in its 21-point loss to Collingwood.
"He's finally getting reward for his effort," Williams said.
Even after kicking a relative bag, Miller maintained the line that he's happy just to play his role. It's the type of sentiment that would please Richmond coach Damien Hardwick.
"He's one of those guys who's a bit unassuming," Hardwick said. "He blocks his opponents, his defensive pressure's good, he does a lot of things that go unnoticed in media circles.
"He's a warrior for us."

Mmmmmm......
Blah blah blah. You see this sort of spin and crap is what I hate. This club continually accept mediocre players and the disease will NEVER be cured if they don't get fairdinkum and get a proper CHF and demand excellence from forwards such as Jack & Vickery.
I know he's playing a role. I know he's "doing his job" but until this club wants really good footy players wearing the Yellow & Black we will be just like Melbourne, St.kilda, footscray etc.
Look at Geelong built a great team because they didn't except ordinary players.
Collingwood, hawthorn, essendon, west coast don't stay on the bottom because they demand the best and play finals.
When will they learn???
-
Yeah like Hawthorn picking up mediocre Melbourne rejects Cheney and Bruce
Or the Pies picking up mediocre Melbourne reject Simon Buckley and Norf's Leigh Brown
When will they learn, when will they effing learn eff me Geez :banghead

when you are ALREADY playing finals and you need some players as insurance or to add depth or to "play a role" then you can possibly try and win a flag. Geelong and the Pod springs to mind.
We haven't and won't play finals with second hand rejects, we SHOULD be building an excellent team with a take no prisoners attitude, no hacks, and no former Melbourne/Casey players.
Cmon Gerks I'm sure you want to see Richmond like the Tigers of old?
I like many are sick of the BS.
-
we have played 2 rounds ffs get a grip will ya
-
Tigra you're a clown
We're not poo because of miller
Get a clue
It's the dross of the draft that FJ keeps drafting, kids without size or elite traits, and the last of the hacks that Dimma inherited
we have played 2 rounds ffs get a grip will ya
Yep

Thriller Miller will rip the lowly Dees a new one this week ;)

I agree with what your saying but I don't think you understand my point.
We can all be upset with club for playing below par players like Jackson, Edwards, nahas etc. But some of us still except a second hand reject like Miller and applaud the club for picking him up. It's a cop out. Even the club knows he's second rate as they kept him as a rookie. We all wonder why we are forever hoping just to play finals whilst teams like Geelong and west coast may have one bad season but are straight back up again and aiming for top 4 and a shot at a flag.
It's a bloody disgrace that we are even playing Miller and it throws up many questions.
Why haven't we got a decent young CHF?
If we do why isn't he playing?
Is there still an issue with our recruiting?
Are there problems with our player development?
Why do we accept mediocre players?
These are the questions Geelong supporters arent asking neither are West coast supporters especially since the recruitment of Darling. But we have been asking these questions for years. Same questions are asked at Melbourne, stkilda, footscray etc.
I for one wont sit here and accept mediocrity at Richmond any longer, i'm sick of it!
Until everyone at the club realise this and demand excellence before we know it we will be rebuilding again with another coach with another 5 year plan.
It's ridiculous that we have him on our list.
-
its not a disgrace
melb stuffed up letting him goi, he is a pretty damn good player even though he misses goals here and there
he is a leader plays according to his role and does as asked
your argument is peeweak and u better stop now cos u wont win it

No we have 42 players on the senior list.
Did you think the same of MIni Maric 4 weeks ago.
FFS some people just need to take a step back take a deep breath and re read what they post.
Would they actually submit that same post if they had to submit their real names also.
If the answer is yes to both points then some people have real issues that posting OER can't diagnose.
-
why is he still a rookie?
Even the club knows he's poo.
If the Club thought he was "poo" then they would have flicked him rookie or not
Ever thought for just a minute that maybe just maybe he is at the RFC for more than his playing ability? That the keep him around for his leadership, the work he puts in with the young forwards? The 1%ers he does out on the field that gets missed by so many and don't get recorded as stats because they don't involve taking marks, kicking goals.
Would suggest as a starting you have a look at some vision at some of the marks Jack got last season thanks to Miller creating a block (a non recorded stats) in a contests and you may just start to realise why he is there ::)
-
Miller was bought in as a back up and for his leadership, the one thing that has been, and probably still is lacking at the club.
Watching a world cup (bum sniffers) game a while back and they two blokes from different succesfull world cup campaigns talking about the importance of, and how you just cant have too much leadership, about how different blokes would show leadership at different times and under different circumstances and how vital it was to their success.
From dimmas last presser;
"..and when we bought him him we knew he was of high character and great leadship"
"...overall we have been happy with his output but more importantly the leadership he bought to the footy club"
as much as it would be nice to produce KPPs out of thin air, i doubt even JC could perform that miracle. we need to develop them and that takes time, and having the right raw materials to work with. Untill that happens miller will lead by example with his work rate and attitude and keep that seat on the bus warm for a more talented player
-
I hope he kicks straight, you would think he could do so on his 150th
-
The club was too scared to take buddy because he was wayward off field same with Darling both are young and will be champion players and match winners but the club settles on mediocre second string reject players from a mediocre club that didnt want him anymore.
What i'm saying is that there's really no point in taking this type of player when we could have a good youngster that should be getting games under his belt whilst we are building for the next stage of our development as a team.
Jack has been there for some time as has lids as has Newman as has Jackson so called leaders of our club. What are you all saying? They aren't good enough leaders we need a reject from Melbourne to help lead us? That's ridiculous because if it's true we are further away than I expected if those guys in our leadership group aren't enough to lead by example.
I've got a question..
Will Miller be apart of our next finals team?
If it's yes then I think it means we don't have a proper KPP that can take his place and that's unexceptable. We all have known for ages we need one but instead we continue to recruit small players and except hacks like Browne and Graham that just aren't up to it and never will be.
Like I said before when we are already in the finals and our team is ready to take the next step to top four & push for the premiership then you can top up with fringe dwellers from other clubs for insurance purposes. But we are miles away from this. We haven't played finals. We are still battling for a position in the eight.
I think Miller has been good for us but the way I see it the club is going backwards with these types because when or if we ever climb the ladder these guys won't be there and he is taking a spot from a youngster that will be there.
-
so you think we have enough leaders at our club, even though two international sportsmen who have tasted victory at the highest level possible in their sport believe you cant have enough?
you cant see past the fact he is an average player skill wise and therefore believe he has nothing to contribute. It is quite obvious you will never understand that developing success is more than just natural talent. This was evident when you wanted a still recovering from injury griffiths to be playing instead of him.

Fletcher is playing his 350 game this week. He debut was in '93 when he was young and raw. Being a ruckman forward he found full back difficult at stages having some of the best full forwards in the game kicking big bags of goals on him.
Essendon didn't waste time with him in the twos. They new he was good and threw him in the deep end. At times he didn't look up to it but his record speaks for itself.
Griffiths looks a beauty. Put him in there and teach him what the big league is all about. He will fail but show him what is required and what the standard must be. I don't see Darling having any trouble at west coast.
-
Miller does his job.
However he's not the future and whilst I applaud the goals he kicks it doesn't excite me as it wont be around when we are hopefully contesting a premiership.
-
Well done today Brad :thumbsup I watched him very closely today - he competes well, decoys when it is required and is just a highly intelligent and committed forward.

Couldnt agree more (for a VFL player)
-
well done brad Miller, making a fine contribution at TIGERLAND...if every fella on the list could extract the max of what this bloke does, we'd have a dynasty :shh
-
bo, you've nailed it. One thing brad does is get get the best out of his god given ability. As Ron Barrassi says, how much ability you have is just luck, what you do with what you are given is up to you. Brad sets a good example :thumbsup

precisely, and it pains me to say it, but BOTH jack and TV should take a bloody look at how he's attacked the footy this year...he's showing the way
-
Well done Brad
Good to see Pia back at the social club too

Dunno why people knock him, he is doing his job well, Melbourne probably wishing he lined up for them today lol.

he was knocked because he couldnt kick straight.
His efforts were never really questioned

he slotted his 3 today and created a lot of opportunities

not knocking miller hes doing exactly what's required. I'm knocking the club for playing him.
It's pointless. It's going backwards. It's accepting mediocrity.

The club would be negligent not to play him! He is our leading goal kicker FFS. If the club thought any other player could come in and kick 2 or 3 goals a game then I'm sure they would be in the side. Until then Miller stays because he's doing nothing wrong....
-
He has been good value for what we pay him to play and for the little we gave up to get him on our list. Played good again today. No complaints from me about Miller. He is doing a good job.

How is it accepting mediocrity u peanut , that would only be the case if we were ignoring the form of emerging talent in favour of playing miller. Clearly not the case, he s performingthe role of a third tall well and no one out of the side is a better option at this point

he's a has been. He's a Melbourne reject from Casey. It's a bloody disgrace we rely on a 30 year old has been when we should already have an upcoming young CHF playing instead learning and growing with a young team. The fact that we don't have one yet speak volumes about our recruiting and/or development. It's ridiculous and it's going backwards.
You haven't seen teams like westcoast or Geelong do this sort of thing.

Really, where was podsiardly recruited from after being rejected from how many clubs then this year they go for 27yo stevenson as a ruck option is that a blight on their recruiting and acceptance of mediocrity, perhaps understand what the term means first then re load :lol

As I've explained previously the pod was taken by the cats as insurance and it worked out to their advantage. But explain to me where was Geelong in their team development? Were they pushing hard to make the eight because they hadn't played finals in years? Or were they topping up and pushing for a premiership?
When your ready to take the step into top four then yes whatever it takes but where we are it's stupid and pointless to take a 30 yr old reject from Melbourne.
-
Miller is 28. We recruited him when he was 27.
-
Geelong can afford to top up the list with pods and vfl ruckman. They won flags
Will we win the flag withh miller? If not itd be better to blood griff elton derickx astbury type

He is buying some development time and healing time for some other blokes on the LTIL and who are still finding their feet, and doing just fine imo.

Brad Miller might be our leading goal kicker at years end
That will fix a few of you Internet nuffers up good and proper
It's about time some of you "wizards of the keyboards" actually go and watch a game of football
He has earnt his spot!
-
KPPs that can be thrown in at the deep end and flourish are far and few between.
More often than not laying young talls before they are ready will hamper their development. Getting knocked from piller to post and getting low possession counts does very liitle for players in terms of development.
It's funny how people scream about earning a spot yet some want to replace our best performed forward with kids who have not done enough to earn a spot.
when and if a kid does enough at coburg to warrant selection, miller will make way for them, just as he did when griffiths recovered from his shoulder surgey and the policy was to get as many games into the kids as possible
-

never said once he hasn't done well. My point is that it's pointless as to where we are headed in the overall scheme of things.
Darling was drafted a year after Griffiths I don't see him having any problems coping or any problems in his development. Looks to me it's speeding up his development if anything.
For those who say his presence helps young players like vickery, well not at the minute it's not.
I think it's pointless to have Miller in the team when there is an upcoming CHF waiting wasting his time in a substandard competition.
If he's too young then why has GWS allowed Jeremy Cameron play?
Some guys are big enough to put in the deep end. Players like Jack Riewoldt who has played a few seasons should be enough leadership in the forward line.
Having Miller there is taking a backward step. Excepting mediocrity and robbing a developing player take his spot and learn quickly.
Did hawthorn put buddy or even roughead back to box hill even when they were young raw and skinny?
Geelong built a great team of youngsters who grew together and became a powerhouse. Only after they were there to challenge for a premiership did they get JPod.
West coast haven't wasted time with older hacks collingwood did but they were already there.
We aren't even in the finals yet.
-
west coast didnt have to waste time with older hacks because they had older blokes who were not hacks.
The fact that you cant see the value in leadership and think that we have enough speaks volumes.
-
west coast didnt have to waste time with older hacks because they had older blokes who were not hacks.
The fact that you cant see the value in leadership and think that we have enough speaks volumes.
then if we don't have enough adequate leadership I think that speaks more about the club.
Why isn't there enough leaders?
What's wrong with the leaders we have?
Why do we need a reject fringe player from Melbourne to help in leadership?
Speaks volumes about the club.
-
perhaps it does, that's why they got miller to try and rectify the problem ::)
-
You play your BEST 22 each week
-
In my opinion Brad isnt keeping anyone out of the team at the moment...Post doesnt appear up to it at this stage,Griff needs to get games under his belt and nothing more .Elton has a way to go yet ,and Astbury isnt even on the park yet.And for crying out loud hes kicking a few goals and getting to and providing a contest....Dont know what more people want to see.
-

Agree with this, his spot is up for the taking. No ones even knocking on the door, so as far as the club is concerned he is kicking goals and doing his hob and he will stay. :thumbsup

Miller stays end of story. Like Tuck until some others can pull their fingers out and push them out then there is no way they both should be dropped.
Its about playing in finals and if Miller is 18 or 28 if he is helping us then he stays.
To be honest im more worried about Jack and Vickery. They both are looking very C grade so far this year. Junk time goals dont mean poo to me.
Miller is streets ahead of them so far.

Miller is converting his chances this year. Still hoping for someone to push him out of the side but there's no one there.
-
My mail is that Griff mighten make it either .not rated by opposition clubs at all..pointless having players on list if they are injury prone
What I have seen of him at VFL and AFL .very overrated by the RFC.somewhat like Adam Pattison was
just whack the kid over the head, glass half full type.
fair dinkum.
Dont have to whack the lad, He was whacked too many times before he was drafted. it was penciled in every scouters notebook but Richmond.
Notebook; Griffiths has great ability but his body willnot cope with AFL football. Everyone knew this & nobody ever doubted the lads ability. His just another footballer who has a body that cannot cope with the standard of AFL football & wont be the last. Richmond took the huge risk & will forever pay for thier mistake of not picking another lad who could have given 2 years on the ground playing instead of having someone who is sitting at home & holding back the club from being where they are meant to be like the Hawthorns & Carltons. You can thank Richmond for that mistake & for putting so much preasure on a person who had it against him when he was drafted ;D

Thanks Monk
As for giving the kid a whack
Just relayed on what other recruiters thoughts were on the kid
He isn't rated by other clubs
It's not like he has kicked a bagfull in any game
Or won a game of his own boot
Sorry if the truth gets in the way of people's dreams
But this is reality
He won't stand up to competitive AFL football

I know his history thanks Jigga
Seems to be overrated by a few more than just RFC

Probably Melbourne. Lets face it they rate Jacky Watts and sing opposition theme songs.
-

Miller must go.
His lack of agility kills.the side. Like playing a man down

Can't play Reiwoldt, TV and Miller all in the forward line - no defensive pressure from these three. Reiwoldt thinks he's king poot so doesn't have to chase, TV is completely out of sorts and Miller too slow.

Has taken 3 marks.2 more than Jack
-
Being better than jack at this moment in time isnt saying much.
But jack is young and has runs on the board even if in poor form.

Jack has talent. Problem is that the talent has got to his head.
The only talent Miller has is Pia.
-
Need something fresh in our forward line.
Bring in Griffiths or Dericks and play them out of the sqaure for Miller.
-
Miller proved today he's a glorified VFL standard player that shouldn't be playing AFL.
Richmond is dumb for picking him up.
There should be a rule in place in our recruiting department : don't take any player discarded by Melbourne football club.

Exactly, and can we extend the rule to don't poach their crappy administrators?

Thought he was ok today
-
Remains our most damaging forward in 2012 despite and improved performance by Ty and Jack.
-
Thought he was ok today
Agree.
Makes some dudley efforts at times but does his job.
Mr Tigra is a minda.

Bla bla ... He was ok ... Bla bla.....
This talk really gives me the poos. Players like Miller, nanas, Edwards etc. aren't up to it aren't good enough and shouldn't be allowed anywhere near our club. Making excuses for them is just plain stupid. Who cares if they are doing their job or did ok when all we all want is to play finals footy and then hopefully play in a premiership.
The club just has a low standard and if the bar isn't raised next year and we continue to put up
with these mediocre types that just aren't up to it then it will all come crashing down again and before we know it we are in another rebuild with another coach and a five year plan of success.
Miller is poo and shouldn't have been drafted. I couldn't give a toss how he's playing now or next week. It's his selection that is a complete waste of time.
Play Griffiths now and see if he's any good before it's too late. No use finding out next year or the year after he's a dud.
"OK" is a loser term in a loser team that excepts honourable losses.
I would rather here "that kid is a star" or "richmond has unearthed the next Superstar".
"Miller did ok today" ...... What a joke!

"Miller did ok today" ...... What a joke!
Yeah you're right - we has shocking ::)
let's look at the numbers:
D K H CP Eff M CM T CL FF FA In50 R50 G B GA SC
B.Miller 8 7 1 5 75% 5 1 2 1 2 3 1 0 3 1 1 75
So let's take out his 3 goals and his goal assist because well they add absolutely nothing and then guess what? We get beaten by 6 goals.
But I suppose that's OK too because then you've got pleanty of ammo to go on and on and on about the teams loser mentatility ::) ::)

But no one cares about his stats or any of the other things he does for the club, recruiting him was a joke, and a desperate move from a club with a looser mentality PERIOD... ;D ;D
