Are the extended bench players just automatically named in the Coburg side?
We have 3 ins (all named in that side), and A. Maric, Foley, Grigg, Ellis = 4 outs.
-
:lol
yep, just like the players named on coburg's bench are also named i coburgs seconds :thumbsup
-
Thanks, al.

Coburg lost to Frankston twice last year (only side to lose to them at all) so hopefully the Burgers remember that.
Thanks to the VFL for fixturing this game on at the same time Richmond plays ::).
-
Bet we're the first AFL side to play on the same day as our VFL side.
Should give these blokes a spanking shouldn't we? Maybe Derickx will kick a few and people will get excited.
-
Should give these blokes a spanking shouldn't we?
Yep. Dolphins are 0-4 already after only winning 2 games last year. Unlike Port which went the other way, Frankston not having any AFL alignment has turned them into the VFL easybeats. Coburg should win easily if we come focused to play unlike last year.
Maybe Derickx will kick a few and people will get excited.
Definitely a chance for one of the talls to put their name up to play against the Eagles if TV has another poor one.

Bet we're the first AFL side to play on the same day as our VFL side.
Er Nope... already happened a couple of times this year, St Kilda & Carlton have suffered the same fate ;D

You'd be justified thinking that once could be an accident. Twice is careless. Three times though????
-
The whole VFL affiliates are a waste of time.
Surely can't be the best way to develop youth. The fact Post was named FF and Graham FB is just an example of the mess that it is. I'm sure Post didn't play forward as he's being groomed for a backman AFL position.
Much prefer the AFL reserves curtain raisers. Can anyone explain why this was changed.
-
Money Pope. It's cheaper to have an affiliate than run your own ressies (and U19s going back in time). That still doesn't excuse losing to a bottom side like Frankston when no one else does.
To answer Muscles question - "mentally soft" comes to mind.
-
i wish theyd reverse the stupid decision to make griff a defender, as if thats our problem...we need a key forward ::)

Griffiths with not make it as a defender or a forward. his a broken little lad who is no more than a VFL player

The VFL report on SEN after 9pm tonight spoke briefly about the game. He said there were a few RFC-listed players who put their name up for selection - Gus has been good in the ruck that last few weeks, Dea, Griffiths & Webberley who got a fair bit of it (the guy seemed to like Webbs the best). Apparently the 3 rucks - Gus, Browne and Derickx - looked early on like they would dominate up forward but Frankston worked around it.

Andrew Browne tweeted this tonight:
"Disappointed with Coburg's performance. Frankston supporters were disgusting. There is no place in the game for some of the comments made."

A couple of match reports from BF:
By OzBomber:
Elton injured his ankle in the first quarter after landing awkwardly in a marking contest. Came on once or twice in the 2nd quarter but was ginger. Didn't come back out in the 2nd half. One or two weeker I think it would be.
Didnt really know who any of the other players were but Coburg gave away a few reckless 50s and Angus Graham bumped a guy high behind play. Not sure if he got reported or not. Number 51, the big Maori lad provided plenty of run but in all honesty Frankston controlled it and really should have won by more.

We were deplorable, awful, however you want to put it, deserved to lose to sub par opposition.
No run through the midfield, without White, no one took charge in the middle, i think the most run all day from Piva Wright...how's that for desperate!!!!!
Ill-disciplined, Connors gave away 2 consecutive 50m penalties, taking us from CHB to 30m out from goal, Derickx gave one away stupidly, Matty Arnot forgot what tackling was and just tried to knock every guy out, i mean the stupidity out there from professional players was unbelievable.
Mcguane was good, but his kick outs were poor, and went missing when we needed him in the last, Griffiths did a very good job on Haretuku until the last 5 mins, and Dea was good out of defence.
O'Hanlon did little...again, Derickx was completely out of sorts up front, Graham and Browne continued to tap well but that was it, Webbers was ok, not special though, Darrou was solid until the last quarter where he turned it over at a couple of crucial moments and Jayden Post.....what a disaster.....was comprehensively beaten by a smaller opponent who outmarked him, his kicking out of defence was awful to say the least, and any signs of development were out the window, he should be back in the Coburg 2's!
Lack of intensity too, no enthusiasm or run, unlike the Frankston boys who just kept coming, and in the last quarter, i can only remember 2 inside 50s, this was a team chasing the game for most of the quarter...TWO INSIDE 50s!!!!!! you cannot win with that kind of performance!

Frankston Football Club accused of racist slurs
Michelle Ainsworth
From: Herald Sun
April 23, 2012
A VFL club is caught up in racism allegations after fans allegedly targeted opposition players at the weekend.
An AFL-listed player accused supporters from the Frankston Football Club of making racist slurs against players from the Coburg VFL side during yesterday's match.
Richmond player Andrew Browne said on Twitter the fans made the comments to players in the quarter-time and three-quarter time huddles.
"Frankston supporters were disgusting. There is no place in the game for some of the comments made," Browne tweeted.
"Racist comments. People coming up to the huddle during the breaks having a go at individuals."
Coburg general manager Jake McCauley last night said the club had referred the matter to AFL Victoria.
"The Coburg Football Club has been in contact with the AFL Victoria, and the Frankston Football Club, regarding some concerns with supporter behaviour during today's VFL match between Coburg and Frankston," Mr McCauley said.
Frankston president John Barry said he had not heard about the allegations.
"I haven't heard anything about it at all, it's quite surprising," Mr Barry said.

So what's the issue with Post?
Date of birth: 5/12/89
Height: 194cm
Weight: 88kg
Club: Western Jets
Bio: Post is a tall, athletic key position player who can play at either end of the ground. He is good overhead, reads the game well and is a neat kick. Post won the Western Jets’ best and fairest in 2008.
http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/default.aspx?newsid=70183 (http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/default.aspx?newsid=70183)
you couldn't get a bio that was so far of the mark if you tried. Although he did win the B&F at the jets.
So was the draft insiders completely wrong or is Richmonds development department completely substandard?

Derrickx kicked 1 goal and apparently 'looked completely out of sorts.' He is not the answer.
Giff has been solid for a couple of weeks now. Give him a run up forward.
-
Derrickx has never been one of Coburgs better players in ANY game. He's 25 years old not 19. He shouldn't be getting a game unless he is dominating at VFL level.
Bring in Griff.

would love to see big Griff play I'm the big league. Already there's been plenty of young draftees picked later in the draft already cement their spot in senior teams. I know he's had his injuries but we've only seem him in the senior team on a few occassions and he looked ok.
Want to see him in and see what he's got. He will learn alot quicker too.

Was post not 19 when running around in the under 18s?

Dolphins on the board
Simon McEvoy
From: Leader
April 23, 2012 9:42AM
SOME leaked information from the opposition camp inspired Frankston to its first win of the season on Sunday; a rousing 16-point victory over the Coburg Tigers at Kars St.
Dolphins coach Simon Goosey said he heard before the game that the Tigers didn't rate his side, and he used the "knock" as motivation.
"They probably fired the first shot," he said.
"Their stats guy who was with us all last year mentioned to us before the game that this was their grand final because if they couldn't beat Frankston they didn't deserve to play finals.
"That must have come from the top. They are kidding themselves. The finals get played at the end of the year, not now.
"It was an insult to us. I was a bit taken aback by it."
There was niggle in the game throughout, and even after it.
It was back to the good old days as Frankston's feisty, fighting spirit burned brightly after half-time. The Dolphins' on-ballers, led by Kyle Martin, Shane Hockey and Luke Potts, lit the fuse and their teammates followed.
Martin was a ball of energy, gathering 20 of his 33 possessions after half-time, while skipper Potts coolly slotted a goal to put the Dolphins 10 points ahead midway through the last quarter.
In blustery conditions, Coburg led by 13 points a half-time and kicked the first goal in the third term to get 18 points ahead.
The Frankston surge began when Khan Haretuku set up Jake Greeley for a goal early in the third term.
A couple of 50m penalties saw Jackson Sketcher kick a long goal, followed by majors by Martin and Haretuku as the Dolphins hit the front.
Coburg struck back to take a 10-point lead into the last change.
The first goal of the last quarter was going to be crucial, and Frankston's pressure had the Tigers' backline fumbling.
Robbie Clements, dangerous all game, pounced to kick his second and the Dolphins were finishing hard. Corey Buchan took an uncontested mark on the goal line and converted to put Frankston ahead.
With five minutes to go, Buchan kicked a booming 55m goal to give Frankston an unassailable lead.
After many near-misses, it was time to celebrate for the Dolphins.
Frankston 1.4, 2.9, 6.13, 10.16 (76) d Coburg 3.3, 5.4, 9.5, 9.6 (60).

Get that bloke and kick his behind back to Coburg! Then tell him to clear out his locker >:(
-
How is Turner going down at Coburg and please dont say by car, bus, train or any form of public transport. I am against public transport. Public transport should be scrapped, people should walk to work. ;D
-
Griffiths has been playing exclusively as a backman. We need a forward. If we want him to play up forward he needs to be switched back forward for Coburg first. I don't think we need to make any knee jerk reaction yet.
-
Yeah mcgaune to richmond chf asap

Development coach Greg Mellor's summary of how each Richmond-listed player went at Coburg on the weekend:
Jeromey Webberley
Continued his outstanding form. Collected 27 possessions from the wing to again be among the best players for the team. Kicked a great goal from the boundary and further underlined his coolness under pressure, which is one of his strengths. His form is particularly pleasing and indicative of the depth the Club is building.
Matt Arnot
Physically monstered some of his Frankston opponents with 10 crunching tackles. His first half was very strong, but he faded out of the game after half-time. Finished with 20 possessions, but needs to be able to put four quarters together.
Brett O’Hanlon
Played through the wing, showing class and poise when he had the ball. Is still adjusting to the tempo of VFL football, but he has a terrific left foot and we need the ball in his hands more often.
Jayden Post
Another solid game. Did his job and used the ball well offensively. Occasionally his release of the ball was slower than he would have like, and he put himself under pressure as a result. Is taking on a leadership role, mentoring the young Tiger defenders.
Andrew Browne
Playing both in the ruck and resting in the forward pocket, big ‘Browney’ managed 15 hit-outs and kicked a long goal from 50 metres out. Is showing some positive signs, and getting in the right position, so a big game should not be too far away.
Angus Graham
Continued his strong form with a 30 hit-out, 18-possession game. Started well, but faded a bit in the second half. It was especially pleasing to see him kick two goals when resting forward.
Matt Dea
Gathered 29 possessions off half-back in a best-on- ground display. Won a lot of one-on-one contests against his opponent, and aggressive spoils were a highlight, as was his run out of defence.
Tom Derrickx
Although it was a frustrating day for the forwards, with the slow ball movement in, Tom continued to present and make a contest. He took two big contested marks and kicked an excellent goal from the boundary. His defensive work inside forward-50, with four tackles, also was pleasing to see.
Todd Elton
Came off early with a minor ankle injury and took no further part in the game after half-time.
Ben Darrou
Continues to grow in confidence. Has been working hard to provide offensive run from the backline and he had 21 possessions against Frankston, which was a pleasing return. He now needs to get the balance right between offense and defence, so we can see a complete game from him.
Luke McGuane
Played on the wing in a different role to what he is normally accustomed and he performed well, collecting 25 possessions and taking 10 marks. He is providing excellent leadership to the young Tigers at Coburg and his continued good form ensures he will again be pressing for AFL selection.
Ben Griffiths
A very encouraging performance from Ben. Took some strong marks in the key defensive post and used the ball well to set up some strong offensive moves. His opponent managed to get away from him on a couple of hit-up leads, but Ben is working hard to develop stronger starting points.
Piva Wright
Returned after a week off with injury, and grew in confidence as the game progressed. Like Ben Darrou, his offensive game was quite good, with 23 possessions off half-back, but his balance between attack and defence needs to tighten up. This will come with experience, and we are really happy with his progress so far.
Dan Connors
It was great to see Dan back after a few weeks off with injury. As a result, he played only 60% game time, but he looked lively around the ball and took his usual ‘hanger’. More game time next weekend and, hopefully, he will start to produce the high standard of football he is capable of.
-------------------------------------------------
Development squad
Steve Verrier
Had a quiet first half playing on the wing, but came into the game in the second half. Finished with 19 possessions and a great running goal from 50 metres out. Is training really well at the moment and giving himself every opportunity of being promoted to Coburg’s senior side.
Gibson Turner
Also had a quiet first half playing as a small forward, but his work rate improved in the second half and he finished with 15 possessions and six tackles. A move into the midfield in the last quarter enabled him to find more of the ball.

very good game Matt. Offensively you gave great rebound and drive from the backlines and defensively you were very strong and won a lot of 1v1 contests. To further improve, a couple of your disposals could be cleaner.
What's this?

reading that, and you didnt know the result, you would think they were the dominant team that just beat the top side.
