Cotch concern
By Peter Ryan

RICHMOND will speak to the AFL umpires department over the physical pressure that Geelong put on Trent Cotchin during Sunday's match at Simonds Stadium.
Despite being tagged by Taylor Hunt, the star onballer was one of the Tigers' best players with 25 possessions, five clearances and nine tackles in the 10-point loss.
Asked if his side suffered any injuries, coach Damien Hardwick said: "I think Cotchin got bear-hugged to death - other than that, I think we're okay.
"It would be interesting if you guys (media) went back and looked at the tape.
"He's a ball player, 'Cotch', and we just want what's best for the game - people come to see the kid play.
"Just give him a crack, I'd say."
Asked if he would call umpires boss Gieschen about the matter, Hardwick sighed and said "again".

Watching this now and it's shocking. Hunt is not even looking at the ball?
-
Yep it was all day, the best thing is he is such a gun and can still find the ball with all the extra attention
-
it was a disgrace. Plain and simple. So much for protecting the ball carrier!
Gieschen you are a :wallywink
-
Was visibly frustrated and upset at the treatment from the start of the game.
Taylor Hunt isn't a footballers hole.

Is this the human meatball with the sketchpad on his arm?? Need to lay off the roids

Ablett gets paid plenty of frees for holding. That's how he manages!

And gets 5 times the attention from taggers.

Not only Cotch but how about the general play.
Umpire 28 in particular. A man who is starstruck and some of the frees the Cats boys got with special mention to Bartel, Chapman, Selwood and the thespian in Stevie J were just baffling.
Do our blokes suffer from Gladstone Small syndrome no neck so when we get tackled high there is no clear way to know where the shoulder is and where the neck is.
If the player being tackled is propelled in a forward motion by the momentum of the tackler is that a free kick too?
Going to Geelong is worse than going to Perth or Adelaide.
Umpire 28 on numerous occasions today used his whistle to signal a Geelong free kick on decisions that were adjudicated in the Reg Hickey stand on the wing. :help

I agree 100% with clarko. Enough is enough with these selwoods. Dimma should instruct every player to start ducking now and getting the free kick. Its a disgrace really and cant believe they constantly get paid free kicks.
Check out the Eagles free kick count thus far this year. Another joke

Yep i hate it, also hate how players fall fwd to get in the back decisions, some clubs do it more than others
-
Whinge whinge, Ablett seems to manage.
Did more than his fair share of whingeing on Sat night when Raines was in his face.
-
Bring back Rainesy to take Jackos spot

Yeah they laugh about it after they practise bobbing their heads down on each other :o
-
Oh well at least if we complain like a big bunch of babies :'( to the AFL like other teams have Cotchin may become one of the untouchables, just like Judd, Sellwood etc...
-
They should do something about the manhandling that Jack is getting while they are at it.
-
Gieschen said the umpiring department was still reviewing footage after Richmond coach Damien Hardwick claimed midfielder Trent Cotchin had been "bear-hugged" during Sunday's game against Geelong.

No, but I am. Seriously.

Robbo on SEN just now and he said Richmond were furious about last week's game. Three umpires out there and none of them saw or did anything about Cotch being continually held and scragged. Robbo singled out Joel Corey and Taylor Hunt as the main culprits.

AFL vows taggers push law to the limit
Mark Robinson
From: Herald Sun
May 01, 2012
THE return of the lockdown tag has prompted an urgent warning from the AFL: We are watching you.
A surge in old-style tagging tactics - including pushing players under and away from the ball, the grabbing of shorts and holding wrists and arms - was detailed by the umpires department yesterday.
Umpires' boss Jeff Gieschen said he was aware of a trend of run-with players "pushing the limits" and that umpires would continue to crack down on illegal behaviour.
"We've been watching as each week goes by and we've seen stronger and stronger run-with tactics being employed," he said.
Despite protests in the media, notably by Richmond coach Damien Hardwick in his objection to Geelong's tactics on Trent Cotchin in Round 4, no coach has lodged an official complaint.
"Our aim is to make sure we smell the blood in the water before the sharks, and we're proactive with this stuff, and we have to make sure we don't overreact to what coaches are saying," Gieschen said.
"However, (we are) happy to listen to coaches when they want to bring it to our attention."
