You can see why Coburg are crap. That midfield would be one of the worst in the VFL. Ignoring whether they are up to AFL level or not, we have a fair few talls in reserve but mids are in short supply.
-
Coburg have been buggered ever since their good players went to the SANFL. Some of those names would be very handy now.
Why is Jordan in the magoos? Goes alright from what I have seen. And 65' loves him ;D

Darrou, Astbury, Webberley, Derickx, McGuane, Post, Graham, Browne, Verrier and mini Maric playing today for Coburg.
6 of the 10 are over 190cm so it shows our dearth in mids.
-
After holding out for 6 minutes, Port eventually get the first goal. Two Coburg players fighting over the same ball lead to the goal :P. Skills are terrible which isn't a surprise.

Webbs the best RFC guy out there.
Astbury has looked solid at FB.
Gus and Postie have made the most of their opportunities up forward (McGuane also playing forward btw.
Browne is No.1 ruck today and is getting a heap of hitouts.
-
What a joke. Under pressure kick that goes forward 40m is pinged for deliberate out of bounds. Results in a Port goal.

Coburg back to playing shocking footy. Too many lazy skill-less duds out there.

Browne marks 40m out with Coburg badly needing a goal and doesn't have a shot :P. Port run it up for a goal without a Burger near them.

Lucky to be just 21 behind. Too blown away and inept in general play that qtr.
-
Webberley the only one out there who looks reasonable.
Verrier has done a couple of nice things for a first year rookie.
I didn't think Astbury had done too badly given the dominace of Port and the ease the ball is coming forward for them.
Plenty of room for another cleanout at the end of the year. Goodbye Gus, McGuane, etc...
It doesn't help either that most of the Burger players are rubbish as well.

Coburg at least tried today for most of the game. The scoreboard only blew out in the last 15 mins of the game. So not a bad effort considering it was against Port Melbourne on their home deck.
The team though has a lop-sided structure so you question team selection and positoning and what hinderance on the development of our cubs exists. Elton is playing VFL ressies while we have rucks and defenders playing forward in the seniors most of whom won't be around next year (Gus and McGuane). The midfield is essentially all Burger players except for Webbs and Whitey when he plays however the Burger players are mostly poorly skilled as well.
Another clean-out coming at the end of the year.
Graham - gone
McGuane - gone
Browne - they'll persist with as he's still young for a ruckman but no guarantees he'll be around in 2-3 years time.
Derickx - gone
A.Maric - decision making has to improve if he wants to survive.
Darrou - first year so he'll survive
Verrier - first year so he'll survive
Webberley - best for Coburg today but VFL is probably his level.
Post - Not good signs with Griffs ahead of him as a defender and Miller getting games ahead of him as a forward. Postie just can't find a position to settle into.
Astbury - coming back from a long-term injury so we'll survive.
-
Graham is a certainty to be here unless traded.

No he's not. I know the family. Even if he was he'd still be here next year. Offers a lot more than Browne and Derickx.

Read all posts twice.
Still confused.
Is he stuffing contracted next year or not?

All that from watching the TV.. Wowee. amazing effort. IIRC thats how we recruited Oakley-Nicholls as well..

Reigning Premiers prove too strong for Hungry Tigers
By Heather Mellican
coburg website
17th June, 2012
Coburg provided a good contest all day but were unable to hold on in the last quarter as Port Melbourne ran away with a 46-point win at North Port Oval today.
While Coburg started strong and came out to prove they were top eight contenders, the reigning premiers’ strength and flair proved too strong for the Tigers.
Both teams came out strong in the opening minutes, with tight pressure and physical play all over the ground. Coburg’s Dylan Murphy was attacking the ball in the forward line and the Tigers were able to equal Port Melbourne’s pressure all over the ground to hold a 6-point lead at quarter time.
Coburg coach Adam Potter was happy with the opening performance but was adamant that his hungry Tigers would have to keep it up in order to send a strong message.
The Tigers pressure eased in the second quarter, allowing the Boroughs to control the play and generate run throughout the midfield to create multiple opportunities inside 50.
The top side controlled all the play in the second quarter, picking up 18 inside 50s to Coburg’s four. Although the Tigers were unable to impact on the scoreboard, Port Melbourne’s poor kicking (3.9 for the quarter) was keeping Coburg in the game, going into half time with a 21-point lead.
Thomas Groves had a solid first half for his first seniors game this season, picking up 11 disposals, four spoils and four tackles for the half and showing his worth in the backline. Despite the poor quarter, Luke Cartelli also proved to be a good option around the ground, obtaining 12 disposals for the half and finishing with 19 touches and seven marks.
Two quick goals in the opening four minutes of the third quarter by Browne and Post brought the Tigers back in it, with Nick Carnell and Adamm Maric moving the ball flawlessly through the middle and into the forward line.
Jake King’s half-brother, Liam Brandt, kicked his first VFL goal to keep the Tigers momentum going and Daniel Venditti, formerly from the WAFL, also created great run from half back and covered space throughout the midfield, being rewarded with nine touches for the quarter and 23 for the match.
Although the Tigers were undisciplined in their forward line at times, wasting opportunities to take the lead, Ben Clifton’s pressure was outstanding, recording six tackles for the quarter and finishing the game with 14 and showing off some of his class shown in past seasons.
Coburg went into the final term with a sniff, only 15-points behind the reigning premiers. However, the Boroughs had other ideas, quickly running away with the lead, making the most of the Tigers’ turnovers and undisciplined free kicks early on in the quarter.
Despite a great piece of play by Carnell which lead to an Andrew Browne mark and goal, Coburg were unable to keep up with Port Melbourne as the Tigers slipped to a 46-point deficit.
Despite the class of John Baird and Stephen Brewer, both ending the game with 30 touches, Shane Valenti with 28 and Dean Galea, who proved too strong in their forward line, picking up four goals, Coburg still had many positives to take from the game.
The Tigers played competitive football and were in the game until three quarter time with Andrew Browne playing well around the ground and in the ruck and finishing with two goals. Adamm Maric also ran tirelessly all day to obtain 28 disposals for the match, and David Fahey, Murphy and Groves gave honourable performances.
The Tigers will be hoping to show the same hunger and determination over four quarters next week to come home with the four points when they take on Collingwood at Mantello Holden Oval next Sunday.

The only mids types
Amaric. Named chf lol. Eltons 3rds... rookie
Darrou. Rookie.
Webberly.
Verrier rookie.

Elton is about 6 foot 6 in the old. Not a mid and not a a rookie either.
Darrou around 190cm and also a key position player.
No doubt our list is unbalanced and this is exacerbated by injuries to Arnott and Hellbig and Macdonald going walkabout. Need to replace a couple of talls lets say Mcguane and Graham with some quality kid mids next season.

Development coach Greg Mellor's summary of how the Richmond-listed players performed with Coburg last Saturday....
Seniors
Jeromey Webberley
Returned after a three-week injury lay-off. Started very well and looked like he was back to his usual sharp self, before fading in the second half.
Addam Maric
Had a really strong game offensively, picking up 28 possessions in his midfield role. Continues to use the ball very well and has performed at a consistently high level when playing for Coburg. Is now focusing on taking his defensive game to the next level.
Ben Darrou
Had a quiet game. We are looking for greater intensity in and around the contest from Ben, as we know when he gets hold of the ball that he is able to make very good decisions under pressure.
Angus Graham
Continues to spend significant time forward in a bid to develop his capabilities as a key forward. Turned in a solid performance, although he needs to capitalise on his opportunities, as he kicked 2.2 against Port, and 2.5 the previous week.
Jayden Post
Was very quiet. Played as a key forward and while he worked hard, he did not have the impact both he, and we, would have liked.
Andrew Browne
One of his best games for the year. Won plenty of hit-outs and picked up quite a few possessions around the ground. Was also dangerous when resting up forward.
Tom Derickx
Is improving each week. Beat his opponents on the day and took eight strong marks in defence. There are a couple of little areas he is working on, but, overall, we think he has the attributes to make the key defensive post his own.
Luke McGuane
Was relatively quiet, although he is still finding his touch after missing a month because of injury. We expect him to continue to improve each week. Is a very competitive player and he’s working really hard to make the transition forward a success.
Dave Astbury
Is still coming to grips with his return from such a long injury lay-off and would probably like to be progressing at a faster rate. Experienced some difficulty with the fast ball inside 50, but performed much better when released to a half-back sweeper role later in the game.
Steve Verrier
Showing really promising signs in his development. Played mostly on the wing against Port and displayed an ability to stay over the footy and use it well once he gained possession.
Development League
Todd Elton
Lined up in the Development League due to the high number of key-position players in Coburg’s side at the moment. Relished the opportunity to play 100% game time, taking several good, contested marks and kicking five goals.
Piva Wright
Also played in the Development League for similar reasons to Todd, and performed well. Showed his capacity for reading the play, and took a number of intercept marks. We are looking for greater intensity from him at the contests to take his game to the next level.
Gibson Turner
Showed improvement in his second game back following calf surgery. Has an excellent ability to find the ball, but needs to become more instinctive when he releases it, to bring teammates into the game.
Gideon Simon
Our recruit from Papua-New Guinea is spending six weeks with us in his quest to be put on the Club’s international rookie list at the end of the year. Is extremely fast, has very good skills, and has impressed in his two matches with Coburg so far.
Kelvin Moore
Played 75% of game time in his second match back from his long-term injury problems and found plenty of the ball. It was also great to see him take a couple of big hits and get straight back up. Will be ready to play VFL seniors in the next week or two.

I love the fact that the stuff is honest... especially with some player in particular and not this "coming along nicely"for each player
-
For the nightowls and shiftworkers:
The replay of the Coburg game is on now on Ch 2 (ABC1) from 2.30am - 5.30am. They normally show these late-night/early morning replays in every state too.
-
Interesting on Derickx there trying groom him in defence.Post might aswell clean his locker out now by the sounds of it.
-
My only sympathy for Post is that he's been Sarged back forward back forward back forward
Unlike Sarge, he's soft as, has never taken his chances in any of those positions, and has sooked about it the whole time
Doesn't want it
-
""Addam Maric

What a load of H.S.
Maric got caught holding the ball plenty, his defensive side seemed to be non existant and his disposal was so poor he was in Ports best players.
If he ever gets another game for RFC AFL I am cutting up my membership
-
If Maric had the body and desire of Greg White we'd have a player
-
