After watching this game today I have witnessed first hand the reason why this club will never be any good and probably wont play finals in my lifetime. If you were an alien and landed on earth, went to a pub and saw one team on 51 the other 18 you wouls assume the side on 51 had more talent and was playing pretty well.
How you go from champagne footy to absolute garbage in the space of 5 minutes is beyond me and the playes, coaching staff, committee should be ashamed of our capitulation today.
As a fan and 15 year member I am embarrassed by today and this ends my association with the club.
I am disgusted by the selction policy playing Miller, Connors and playing Elton when hes not ready.
We will not play finals this year and I will not take that the we have a tough draw, we have had nil injuries and yet we sit here outside the top 8 without a way in.
19 point loss. What a load of crap!! Pathetic.......
-
No finals for us again 2012. We are simply not good enough. For all the effort we have too many players who are standard VFL type players. Im just sad, our football club isnt going anywhere at the moment. We have stalled. Indeed when I said we played crap against St Kilda most in here said the opposite. The St Kilda game is the one which saw our average players start to play like millionaires on the footy field and move away from the defensive structures needed to win alot of games. Todays effort after 1/4 time was shameful. We dont deserve finals.
-
The match committe can surely see the stats that miller produces conca gets 22 possies gets dropped in the wet stuff the selection committee cost us 4 points this year
-
And for most of those years I've made a yearly donation.......what a fool I've been.

Unfortunately the club doesn't see this! Theykeep on playing guys who are clearly not a the required level!

Expectations were raised after the Hawthorn and St Kilda wins but at the start of the year a frustrating season was always on the cards even with overall improvement given where our list is at. You can't lob this year with the previous 30 years. We have come a long way forward but we were starting from a long way back and in 2012 we aren't good enough YET. Upper level of our list is but it falls away still thanks to a mixture of still being too young and inexperienced and old guys still getting a game who can't cut it consistently when a game is on the line. I'm ticked off we lost today as anyone but nothing has changed as far as judging where we are at.
The funny thing is we could win our next 2-3 games in a row and be back in the hunt and hopes will be raised again. Likewise we will probably have another 'bad' loss along the way and we'll all be drowing our sorrows like right now. It's going to be one of those years and not unexpected from a young team. Very often young teams have the frustrating pre-year before the step up to become a finals side the following year. Anyway finishing 10-11th this year gets us a top 10 pick; Port's crapness means we'll get a early-mid 20 compo pick and probably another around 30 (normal 2nd round); then add a free agent who can walk into the side next year. Enables us to offload list cloggers and pushes most of our current bottom 6 out of the side to just fringe players/list cloggers. It's an evolving process as is development within our young cubs. As supporters we need to be patient even though that word ticks most of us off after 30 years of mediocrity.

If you can go out and murder a top 4 genuine side like Hawthorn and lead Adelaide by 6 goals you have a great foundation indeed the thing is we just always bring our hard work undone by stupid selection mistakes like this week miller 0 goals stuff all assists and shitloads of clangers gets played ffs wake up RFC read this

DIGGLERS Caravan Park is taking Bookings for September - hopefully our players and coaches can get in early and go on holidays at their usual time being at the end of August. Bookings are also open for supporters :lol

Gold coast ! Hmmm do I book a trip to the reef Saturday or take a punt and rock up :huh

No one should ever bother emailing the employees at the club they just want our membership money and contributions for the fighting fund and beyond that they probably dont give a stuff so I doubt theyd respond to your most reasonable and correct criticism. :thumbsup
-
i am pretty sure they read our stuff though .... FFS there is not one person on this site that really thinks Miller has deserved his spot since the Dreamtime game is there?

Yep, over it...30 years of poo.

You can book in Ramps but I think I'll wait - more to be played out in this strange season yet. And I wouldn't waste time booking for next year - will be damn boring watching us in the communal TV room with a bunch of Saints and North supporters. ;D

The trouble is MT I have heard this kind of rumination for 30 years. It is an excuse to fail.
That's because we continually and deludedly overrated where we were at and went with the quick fix trading top picks for other clubs' fringe duds at top dollar at the expense of developing our own and bringing them through together which only kept us in mediocre-land. It was a vicious circle. We haven't done that under Dimma. We are also now for the first time putting $$$ into resourcing our footy dept. across all areas to make sure we pick the right kids and recruits and develop them properly. Now I would've 'tanked' in 2009-10 when we had the chance to accelerate the rebuild but waiting one more year isn't going to kill us after waiting and watching crap that took us nowhere on and off-field for three decades.

Recruiting prowess still has to be proved IMHO. Brandon Ellis has a serious issue with pace. He seems extremely slow over the first 5 or so metres and in AFL you dont get that amount of space. Has to find an extra yard or two of speed at least over the next preseason.

your very right once again MT.
But I do sit back and wonder why clubs like the bombers never have the same struggle just to make finals as we seem to year after year.
We wear our Richmond love on our sleaves and we are proud supporters but you have to admit it peees you off when people laugh when you tell them you barrack for the Tigers, then you hear them say, "ohhh I like Richmond, they'll get there one day".
Gives me the poos. But that's what we've become.

Essendon prior to this year had been crap for a decade. They fell into finals twice under Knighter with sub-par seasons and duly got annihilated in the first week of finals both times. They are a good side this year but you've got to note it's easier to make the finals when you've only played three top 8 sides so far. They've lost, granted narrowly, two of those 3. Compare that to us who have played all eight top 8 sides for a 3-5 record and 4 of those loses were narrow (we were in front at some stage in the last qtr). The draw is unfair but what can you do. The thing for us is not to lose against the bottom 10 sides which we play more of on the run home (which is why the Freo game was our worst lost for the year so far). It's those slip ups that cost finals spots.
-
What pees me off about the club is this,
Every year in recent history when the season is hot and there for us to make a mark we kind of do but once we reach a certain level of finance or membership everything on field drains away.
Case in point FTF game last year against Carlton.
This year 50K members reached week after St Kilda game and the FTF gets to 5.5 million and since then poo.
Now RFC, I love you but sooner or later you HAVE TO, MUST WITHOUT A QUESTION OF DOUBT turn this skata around and get some bloody success because the people that love you may just start walking away the same way they did in the 80's 90's 00's and that is going to help noone.
Have to learn to win these games otherwise what's the point of it all.
Please we are a young group don't get into usual habits and accept failure and mediocrity because it is easier than hard work and success. All you have to do is look at the Sydney and Hawthorn games from last month and emulate that and you will be fine.
-
okay lets look at it with a bit of honesty. to be honest i dont think we will make the 8 for lots of small reasons.
but can we make the 8? tough gig now but you bet ya. again injury is the key stay healthy and who knows.
the draw says.
melb 60/40 win.
gcs 70/30 win
nm 50/50 hopefully win.
ca 40/60 loss but they may have nothing to play for by then. so who knows. would be great if we do nothing else all yr but be the ones who knock em out of contention.
br 50/50 have us down for a win here but its no monty.
wb 60/40
fr 40/60 tough ask in perth.
ess 35/65 loss imo. but it should be competetive.
pa 60/40 should win at home.
4 definates, two 50/50, 3 losses.
imo the ca or freo game is the crunch games win one of these and we are a real chance.
one thing for sure this yr is a sucess make finals or not. we have been in every game we have played and look like being in every game we play from here on in. there has not been any hidings and clear improvement in system and in players has occured. reckon 11 wins is likely and every single tiger supporter i know would have taken that in a heart beat at the start of the yr.
my greatest concern with 11 wins is we dont continue to cut. we have been at this point several times in our recent past and every time we have taken the wrong stuff in the road. we have to acknowledge the list is nowhere near good enough and actively take part in the nd and turn plenty of players over.
geez this yr i dont think ive ever been truly disappointed with the tiges apart from this week. before the game i placed a bet on them and when we went in 35 points up at q time i thought rightio.

I agree Connors Miller and Houli should never be seen in a tiger Guernsey again
They are let Plodders with limited ability
I blame Hardwick for today's loss for playing these types of players lumps alcoholics or turnover kings
If b Gale was on the money he would of got Malthouse and cleared out Baby face Dimmer
No other club would ever put Miller or Connors in their team but Dimmer seems to find room for them
How does Tabouli get in the team before Reece Lightning Conca?
Tabouli and Newman can't make tackles stick yet they get games
We're unprofessional and we need to make Chimp Cotchin captain and get rid of all our sad recent history
Pick 55 captaining our club with 200 games and never played in a final
We are an embarrassment to ourselves let alone the football fraternity
Dimmer get fair dinkum or get out otherwise you'll be anther Spud and Terry saga
I've had enough honorable losses for three decades
These losses are really DIShonourable because you stuff it up in the selection room every time in crunch games
You're dishonest to the tiger fans and stakeholders so wipe that smile of your face and increase your professionalism because enough is enough
-
geez some need to take a good dose
of reality pills.
rebuilds dont happen overnight
especially in the case of this club
and the amount of work to be even
where it is now.
3rd youngest list with potential lots
of potential..
this was never gonna be easy get
a grip people and enjoy the ride. :sleep :sleep

It's part of the culture, essendon have been poo for 8-9 yrs but they still somehow make finals, now with a team that last year was arguably low on talent, they are flying, yeah yeah the draw is soft, but fact is they have had some serious injuries, and those losses could have easily been wins.
There is a clear difference in club culture, our stinks there is no other way to put it. There is a serious issue here bc each and every time we come to that moment of crescendo in a season where it's on a knife edge and can go either way, we always capitulate, we never make a stand and say stuff you, this time we don't buckle. I'm in awe and gobsmacked at how much
Patience some of you blokes have, time is running out ffs, every year we allow this club to buy a bit more time. Enough! They clearly ave the capacity to play competitive football this year, don't just sweep it under the carpet and say next year for sure, what happens if next year cotch or lids do a knee, what if we have a bad run with injury, will we say "next year 2014, bc we had injuries" in footy you have to grasp your chances bc they may not come round again.
Stop being mediocre and stuffing stand up and make us proud FOR ONCE IN 10 years and for the 3rd time in 30 ::)
-
Some people here need a massive reality check.Yeah I'm upset to about the loos .but let's not forget we played a top four team away from home who have lost 3 games who's it's list is much mature and experienced then ours.Rutten and Thomson etc.I agree Miller should not be there at all were past him.We need to be patient and I'm convinced we will have success it takes time.

Would go with Luke or Gus,
You must earn a game of footy, not get them gifted as Vickery seems to get

spot on MT.
Gale said early on in the year that we would still have to take some medicine, and yesterday was a big dose of that bitter syrup.
perhaps some need to go down the julie andrews route;

To become a finals side we need better depth and to get rid of sub standard players. We are improving. We have a way to go. Agree with earlier comments of MT

fantastic post. I agree 100%
teams like the dawks and swans have no trouble just to make finals. Essendon play finals for breakfast.
We as supporters aren't asking for much.
A finals appearance would be great. Even if we get beat comfortably but it sets you up for the next year and one step closer to the biggest prize.
Geelong had a similar build to this. Had some losses in finals and then got to the big game and finally won it after years of failed attempts.

We are poo, week, no mental strength, we are and have been the mentally weakest team in 30 bloody years.
We also need some big players..... We are way too small all over the ground....they whooped us in contested marks around te ground.
As a member this is the worst loss I have seen in a bloody long time.....

I believe we dont need another clean out..we need to do some smart recruiting like we did this year.We need to target a key forward ,another mid,and generally get some good depth into our list.or we need to just give another year to our list to mature..This year has been excellent ..other than the first game we havent been pumped. And including the carlton game we have been in a winning position in just about every game...now to me that a huge improvement

Let the rebuilding continue & the use of the new facilities over 2 years with the group & you will see change.
Stop judging the club over 30 years on this group of players. If they want it bad enough they will create new history.
