Reward for Morris
richmondfc.com.au 10:21 AM Tue 03 Jul, 2012
Richmond defender Steven Morris has been rewarded for his efforts in his debut season of AFL football with a one-year contract extension, binding him to the Club at least until the end of the 2014 season.
Morris - the son of dual Richmond premiership player Kevin Morris - has had an instant impact at Tigerland, with his fierce attack on the ball and ability to shut down opposition small forwards.
The 23-year-old has missed only one game so far this season, through injury, and is averaging 15 disposals per game.
He has managed 20 or more disposals three times in his 12 games for the Tigers, against Collingwood, Port Adelaide and St Kilda.
“Steve’s story is one of perseverance, and he is one of the most driven individuals we have on our playing list,” said Richmond’s General Manager of Football, Craig Cameron.

From today's Age...
Morris is one of the feel-good stories of the season. This time last year he was playing for West Adelaide in the SANFL, albeit playing exceptionally well. But having had a knee reconstruction a year earlier he would have felt a long way from achieving his dream of playing AFL football.
Yesterday, the Tigers announced that they had extended his current two-year contract by a year, to the end of 2014. The son of former Richmond and Essendon player Kevin Morris, he has been quickly signed by the Tigers after making an immediate impact with his kamikaze attack on the ball.
Morris said the success of other state league players such as Nick Lower (North Melbourne), Nick Duigan (Carlton) and Paul Puopolo (Hawthorn) had encouraged him. ''Seeing guys … playing really good roles for those footy clubs that took the punt on them, it gave me a little bit of hope that perhaps there was an opportunity for me if I really knuckled down. I did that and thankfully Richmond gave me the opportunity.''
The fadeout in Adelaide hurt but Richmond has put the defeat behind it. ''We need to make sure we get back to our basics, winning the contested footy,'' said Morris.

Morris needs to be released from the backline to the midfileld, a la Lids.
-
He was real good against North, showed lots of pluck and drive.

nah leave him where he is, makes fwds think twice and is only now starting to settle in, barring injury, next season onwards this bloke will be a beast in defence for us..
Anybody see him gaining ground on Wells late in the final qtr, stuff hes quick!
-
Definately leave him where he is.
At the start of the seaason we were worried about who was going to be the rebounder from defence with Lids moving to midfield.
We all hoped it would be Houli if he improved a bit or maybe newman back to his best.
Instead Houli and Newman have gone backwards but Morris has more than filled the breach.
After watching him on the weekend I seriously started to think he is actually better than Lids in that HBF role.
He defends tighter and tougher, switches from defence to attack a lot quicker and makes excellent decisions with the ball.
-
Wait until u see him pinch hitting in the midfield...
-
this guy is in his first season and playing with a bung shoulder.he also attacks the ball like theres no tomorrow ....an absolute gun
-
We love him
I bet his family and friends are proud of him,n but I reckon his ex team mates from the west adelaide bloods miss him as much as they are proud of him. Between him and ivan the value they add is beyond belief
-
as much as Morris gives us hope it actually makes me more angry to be honest when i watch half hearted attempts by Houli, Grigg, Edwards, Newman when its their time to go.
Morris is a machine.
Cotch is cream but this bloke is everything you want in a club man. Too bad he has teammates who are weak as pee
