From The Age: Caro reporting that Foley won't play this week

Richmond's woes compounded: Foley to miss
July 5, 2012 - 3:39PM

RICHMOND'S horror week has continued with the failure today of Nathan Foley to prove his fitness in time for Saturday's clash with Melbourne.

The Tigers' already decimated midfield had been awaiting Foley's return from another problematic heel injury. The 26-year-old has not played since the club's stirring win against St Kilda five weeks ago. Worryingly, he remains a week to week proposition.

Coach Damian Hardwick last year likened Foley's return to football to gaining a new recruit at the club after the speedy wingman who vied for all-Australian honours in 2007 missed the best part of two seasons in 2009 and 2010 with a lingering Achilles injury that led to an ankle reconstruction.

The Tigers' midfield will now be without Dustin Martin - who has been suspended by the club for two weeks for mixing alcohol with prescription medication and missing training - and Daniel Jackson who failed to appeal a two week ban for striking Chris Knights.

Tyrone Vickery was ruled out for the season on Tuesday and star young defender Dylan Grimes could travel to Germany in the coming days for treatment on his troubled hamstring. Grimes is not expected to return at least until mid-August.

Reece Conca, Jake Batchelor and Matt White are expected to return to the Richmond side which has lost one-third of the team that lined up against the Crows.

A bruised heel if not rested early can have severe complications. They may well be covering for an Achilles injury but a heel is bad enough. It can take anwhere from 1 week to 3 months rest.....and that means complete rest.

Mate can u please elaborate? A ruptured Achilles is 12 months, you can't half do it either, is it inflamed, tendinitis? What exactly is it?

Cheers

Really disappointed we dropped Elton.

Mistake to select him, but even a bigger mistake to throw him out with his bath water.

We play GWS, Adel, Melb and GC in a 4 week period and we pick a 18 year old KP forward to play 1 game. Only a circus match review panel would pick him for the Adelaide away game. Genuine muppet hour.

So Derickx a debutant with average Coburg form gets Eltons spot. Why drop the kid.  :rollin

hopefully the match commitee have realised how pointless having him there actually is and they keep him out for good.

Agree with most and Disappointed Elton doesn't stay in for a couple more weeks to get more of a run against some younger bodies. :banghead

If it's not the selectors fault then whose it?

The players?

The supporters with their know it all knowledge of all things football?

The umpires?

Two players who showed that they are not prepared to abide by club rules and community standards are not playing for Richmond this week.

Some other players who are injured are unavailable.

Players who have abided by the club rules and community standards and who are dominating at Coburg have earned a call up.

But you chose to denigrate them all with your comment about the worst side selected this year.

What a crock of poop.

This is the best side selected so far this year.

Every player selected will be busting their gut to earn a victory and their place in the team for the rest of the season.

You need to temper your posts to cut the bias bulldust out.

The circumstances of this week make this the most hungry team to wear our jumper this year.

Opportunities abound.

Honest hard work will earn reward, as opposed to cheats who slept in and let their team mates, their club and their supporters down.

I am not young. But still capable.

i like this team, i think conca and batchelor balance us nicely. I think Whitey is overdue a run this season and will slot straight into the defensive fwd role beautifully, also adding some pace. Mini maric is surely at the crossroads, hasnt been able to take his chance, needs to step up and make a spot on our list his so as Ekto has mentioned hunger should be huge especially for these 2. Playing an extra ruckman (finally!) and we need to know if the X man is worth perservering with. McGuane deserves a shot too and gives us some flexibility regarding whether he plays fwd or goes down back if they decide to unleash big Griff in the fwd line. A shame dusty, Foley and grimes arent in the side, but apart from that trio, this is a side capable of tearing the dees a new one

I had a dreadful feeling they were going to bring in McGuane. Play him in the forward line to minimize damage of turnovers. Play Derrickx in the backline. I hope they are playing Tom because he is in good form and warrants it not out of desparation. Don't believe it was right to drop Elton Not sure about Maric coming in

hoping A. Maric can do something this time around. Get his chance against his old side. Have been waiting for him to show something as per the NAB cup games.
Cant remember if he played against the dees earlier in the year (if he did must have been a fairly lackluster performance) but it should be enough to warrant some fire in the belly. I'll be watching him closely at the game tomorrow.

Absolute right move to drop Elton, simply not ready yet.  Will be a good player but not this year.

I have no issue with McGuane coming in as a last resort. There was a time when we had no choice but to play him. I agree with those who wanted to see Elton get another run, but bringing in blokes like Derickx and O'Hanlon I imagine the justification was to get a more experienced body on the field, like McGuane or mini-Maric.

Reckon Derickx will play forward that way we can dictate when he goes and rucks. Don't have that flexibility if he is accountable for an opposition player. I think McGuane might play forward too. Griffiths has the experience down back this year. With 7 changes we need as few structural changes as possible.
Title: Re: Tigers Team -v- Melb Rd 15

Agree Dwaino

Batchy to replace Grimes, keeps the backline stable

Conca takes Martin's spot, he's been going through there all year, White takes Jackson's, so not a lot of change there

Derickx takes Miller's role, McGuane takes Elton's, A.Maric takes Kingy's - totally changes the forward line but that is where the unpredictability might be a good thing, with the rest of the side being fairly stable.

O'Hanlon obviously sub for Connors

does anyone know where to get a stat for:
The last time a team made 7 or more changes and won that round?

 :)

According to Eddie McGuire the last time we made 7 changes and won was in 1963.   :help

Absolute right move to drop Elton, simply not ready yet.  Will be a good player but not this year.

x 2.  Had his taste and now can focus on closing the gap between his current ability and what is required for the next step.  I'm with you PM21, will be ok in the long term.

I may be wrong but i feel elton would have been equal to mcgaunes output today.
