Hawthorn superstar Lance "Buddy" Franklin has reportedly been caught speeding 40km/h over the speed limit yesterday afternoon.

According to radio station 3AW this morning, Franklin was detected at 90km/h in a 50km/h zone in Hodder Street, Brighton East.

Officers from the Moorabbin traffic management unit reportedly detected Franklin driving a car that was not his own. He was fined $599, lost his licence for six months and received six demerit points, according to 3AW.

Comment was being sought from Franklin and the club.

Victoria Police confirmed a 25-year-old Brighton East man was caught at an alleged speed on 90km/h in a 50 zone, and confirmed the driver was fined and lost his licence.

Should be delisted for bringing the game into disrepute. this is an outrage

Lance Franklin has been involved in a car accident, the Hawks have revealed.

The incident is understood to have happened on Monday evening with Franklin behind the wheel.

"Lance is shaken but has not sustained injury in the accident, while the driver of the other vehicle involved has been treated for an arm injury."
 
The accident comes less than three weeks after Franklin's licence was suspended after he was caught driving at 90km/h in a 50km/h zone.
