Title: How our club rates players
Post by: Coach on July 29, 2012, 12:08:19 PM
Would Daniel Jackson play regular footy for a decent club let alone be in their leadership group?
Would Bachar Houli keep his spot at another club after reaching a new level of softness every week??? Would Shane Tuck have been treated so poorly at another club?
Would Jake King be an automatic selection at any other club? I hear the Angry Midget Reserves are looking for a new forward. I told them Kingy is available but they're still searching and I dont blame them.

There is something wrong with the way our club goes about it.

what about when Jake King at a stoppage in the last quarter stood and watched the ball, instead Gibbs hits stoppage at speed, gets in front of King  gets possesion kicks forward and they get a goal.
Interesting watch

It comes from having an absolute crappy list.

How about Adam Maric.

Score 90-77.

We win possession and we are clear. Mini gets the ball on the line of the square member stand side defensive side of the square he is clear instead of kicking long to a one on one he grubbs the kick to the wing 20 metres away from the RFC bloke thus giving the Blues player achance to impact the contest.
Guess what the ball ends up in Carlton hands and the passage starts where Armfield goals to get the Blues to within 7.

What does this say about him and others. Decision making is poor and when decisions are poor the skill falters as a result. We have plenty of these types in the side.

Looks like Mini used up all his good eggs tackling Goddard and setting the Prima Donna up for his 8th the last time we actually felt good about a win.

yep we continue to hang onto glass half fulls for way too long. severley restricting our chances of finding a player who is up to standard.

list management or some key areas of list management continue to be very ordinary under craig cameron.  recruiting is questionable as well.

imo we have come out of full on rebuild and development of kids too early thus to achieve our goals we are forced to play mediocre players because they offer just a little bit more than kids do at this point in time.

the simple truth is if players like jackson king white nahas etc etc etc are on your list the temptation is to play them. and we do at the expense of finding and developing better  more skilled players while suffering a little more short term pain.

under hardwick we got about half way thru the rebuild and changed tack from youth and full on development to chasing as many wins as possible.
we changed tack one possibly two yrs two early. this yr should never have been about the 8 but it became that we took our eyes of the ball.

However whilst he is still in the side and making schoolboy errors like that I will pay out big on him. :thumbsup

Talking about how our club rates players what about our supporters.

Apparently we have team full of great players that should be making finals and winning consistently.

Our club rates the players? yeah right not as much as our supporters do?

hard to disagree with names mentioned but remember they've already cleared out over 50 % of the list that was there when hardwick and co took over...unfortunately you can't delist everyone at the same time (or we'd only have half a dozen - a dozen blokes to pick from each week)....this off season is the absolute key for the club and this list, must MUST make some serious changes & get rid of the last of the deadwood (read Jackson and co)....can't remember as important a draft/trade/recruiting period....

I actually asked the same question to a few players and media - how do clubs rate players?

Apparently whilst we only have the various stats i.e. Supercoach, Dreamteam, Champion Data etc, the clubs have an array of other metrics that they use to measure the players performance.

I think its about time that our club was more open and honest about the performances of the players and how they are measured. Whilst you don't want to give ammunition to the opposition, you still want to communicate properly with your fans. IF you have the understanding of the fans then you get more support when things are going badly.

We all have our poor player list - but when the chips are down you need to come out on the front foot and explain the process i.e. we don't have any depth so we had to play Addam Maric, Brad Miller, Luke McGuano, etc
