the forward line appears to be a little on the tall side??? Probably not how they line up but how is Elton, Graham, Miller & Derickx supposed to get good game time and opportunities to improve???
-
Moore isn't named in the Coburg side because he's up with the team in Brisbane as the spare 23rd man.

Fair bit of Richmond talent on display today. ;)

That centre of the ground is ridiculous these days. It's just an old fashion bog (it's a sunny day here in Melbourne for those interstate).
-
Patto vs Gus ..... well that's worth the price of admission alone :rollin
Clifton gives away a free off the ball directly in front of Box Hill's goal.
0 - 6
-
Rebound off half-back (Nice kick Darrou). Miller gathers and finds Derickx who goals :gotigers

Coburg ressies won. I don't think any of our players played.
Coburg 18.10-118
Box Hill 8.7-55
Coburg debutant gifts Box Hill a goal with a poor kick across the half-back line.
6 - 13
-
Miller on the wing goes acroos the midfield to mini Maric which opens up the play. Maric then runs on, gets the ball back inside 50 and snaps a goal :gotigers
Cob 12
BH 13
-
One thing about Brad Miller he more than often makes the right decision
-
Coburg ressies won. I don't think any of our players played.
Probably why we won. ;D
-
Astbury ignores the first option and then gets caught trying to burst through. That's now six turnovers to one and it's gifted Box Hill all 3 of their goals.
Graham is playing as though he knows he's gone. Pathetic contesting if you can call it that! ::)
Cob 12
BH 19
-
Coburg just seem to have no game plan, play like a Benny hill finale.
Sooner we get our own team and coaches the better as it seems when these guys get a call up they just don't know wtf to do and now I'm seeing why :banghead
-
Verrier long to the pocket to Nick Maric who gets paid a free. Plays on and goals :gotigers

Amen to that CUB :yep.
Astbury sloppily kicks it OOTF while fighting for the ball in the defensive pocket then is too busy arguing with the ump while the Box Hill player plays on. Luckily it's only a point.
Turnovers (Nick Maric this time) are killing Coburg once again.
18 - 27
-
RhysJones is bagging the rfc for turning the ball over to often
-
Masters and Carnell are our best players but not on the rfc list
We have no depth
-
1/4 time
Coburg 3.1-19
Box Hill 5.4-34
Goals: Derickx, A.Maric, N.Maric
Competitive for the first 15-20 minutes of the first quarter but the Hawks dominated the last 10 minutes.
-
Should go in for Masterchef, they're good at turnovers
-
Why does the big girl get a game?
-
Possies:
A.Maric 6k 3h
Astbury 4k 4h
Miller 3k 2h 2m
Derickx 3k 1h 2m 1 goal
Mini Maric has got a lot of the ball but as we've seen when he's been in Richmond colours he commits too many turnovers.
Astbury - done a couple of ill-disciplined things has spoiled a solid game so far.
Miller - the best RFC player on the field. Still too slow for AFL level but at leats he's doing well today at this level.
Derickx - been leading up the wing well.
Browne - at leats he contests in the ruck.
Graham - spud. Bye bye
Webberley - spud. Bye bye
Darrou - 1-on-1 is still a concern but not our worst.
Wright - one kick which was a scrubber.
Verrier - not as visible as previous weeks. A couple of possies.
-
Milzay the was poor form mate
-
Gus finally does something good and then Miller decides to play on after the mark 20m out and the ball is smothered. Geez we have some braindead footballers on our list :banghead.
-
Milzay the was poor form mate
Leadership! :P
-
Groundhog day Gus :rollin
-
As Allan Jeans once said " You can bake them, fry them, bbq them or boil them but their still sausages"
As RFC fans lament. You can polish a turd get the tarn off and shine it up till it glows like a new penny but at the end of the day its still a turd. :P

Astbury in the centre bombs in hope and Miller marks. Goal :gotigers

Still a shiny turd as a footballer. :help
-
Masters and Carnell are our best players but not on the rfc list
We have no depth
Masters is a turnover merchant. He does it every week for Coburg trying to rush his possessions when more poise in needed.
-
Rhys-Jones claiming Richmond went into the game against Carlton last week at full strength. You idiot! ::)
-
He's under the pump Coburg defense turning it over
-
Darrou hits Miller on the lead 60m out. Miller then long to the hot spot and Carnell crumbs a goal.
Cob 31
BH 69
-
Astbury is a fair dinkum spud.
-
Spuds the whole lot of them, Halftime they get turned off. l'm over them :banghead
-
only Coburg players who may make it at Richmond are Elton, O'Hanlon, Turner (Who seems to be injured at the moment and not playing) the rest arent up to it at all.
-
Webberley finally does something positive and hits up Miller on the lead. Goal :gotigers

You got 2 huge Ruckmen in Graham & Browne & that STUPID COBURG COACH has Miller contesting the ruck after a goal hahaha l have seen it all now. There is no daylight down there ;D

Gus gets a free 25m out. Goal :gotigers
Cob 43
BH 71

Half-time
Coburg 3.1 7.1-43
Box Hill 5.4 10.11-71
Goals: Miller 2, Derickx, Graham, A.Maric, N.Maric, Carnell
-
Possies:
A.Maric 9k 6h
Astbury 7k 5h 4m
Miller 7k 3h 6m 2 goals
Miller - One brainfade but he's done everything else right. Best on ground for Coburg.
A.Maric - didn't appear to make too many mistakes that quarter.
Darrou - solid-ish game. More a half-back flanker than a key position defender or 3rd tall type.
Astbury - has got plenty of the ball with the ball down Coburg's backline most of the time but too sloppy today especially for a defender.
Browne - best of the rucks but hasn't done much else around the ground.
Graham - pass
Derickx - reasonable first quarter but drifted out of the game in the second term.
Webberley - pass. Only good thing was that pass late in the 2nd term to Miller. The rest of the time it looked as though he knows he's gone.
O'Hanlon - quiet first quarter but had it deep in defence a handful of times in the 2nd term. Nothing to write home about.
Verrier - quiet game today.
Elton - hasn't got near it. Very quiet.
Wright - has struggled with tempo after being promoted up from the Coburg ressies. Another Tiger who hasn't got near it.
As we know it's slim pickings at Coburg :-\
-
Nice speccie from Nick Maric.
Wheeler goals.
Cob 50
BH 71
Verrier taken off injured. Not sure what's wrong.
-
Coburg had the numbers through the centre but Contin doesn't go the first option and gets caught holding the ball. Turnover results in a Box Hill goal.
Hawks then get the centre clearance from a free off the ball and that;s another gifted goal. That's the end of the comeback.
Edit: Make that 3 goals in 3 minutes to the Hawks. Darrou can't contest in a 1-on-1 marking contest. He just gave that up too easily.
Cob 50

A.Maric a good long kick allows Miller to run back with the flight in space and mark. Goal :gotigers

Box Hill 5.4 10.11 15.13-103

Even quarter.
-
Possies:
A.Maric 19 disp.
Astbury 14 disp.
Miller 13 disp., 8 marks and 4 goals.
More direct footy and less errors that quarter from Coburg.
Inside 50s: 27 - 47 although it was fairly even that 3rd quarter.
-
Potter getting stuck into Gus in the huddle. Told him even everytime you do something stupid and ill-disciplined I'll bench ya (Gus gave away a dumb 50m in the 3rd qtr).
-
We need that man moutain goal kicking machine Miller back in the ones

Carnell to the hot spot. Derickx contests well. Nice hands Miller to Wheeler who crumbs a goal :gotigers.

Respectable come back by the look of it, Bh have barely lost a game have they
-
Miller should have been in the 1's this week. :gobdrop
-
Best players ::)
-
Miller & A.Maric will be in the Coburg bests probably along with Browne in ruck who had a solid second half. Nothing to get excited about future-wise.
Elton was quiet up until late in the game when he kicked a couple of goals.
Verrier didn't do much either before having to go off the ground in the 3rd qtr after a Hawk punched him in the ribs way off the ball.
Astbury had a shocker. He'll have decent stats but made a heap of bad mistakes in defence.
O'Hanlon had no impact on the game.
Darrou was exposed 1-on-1. Very much a uncontested outside player.
Wright I can't see making it at all. Just looked lost out there most of the time.
Graham, Derickx and Webberley only confirmed that they have their papers stamped and won't be at Punt Rd next year.
Respectable come back by the look of it, Bh have barely lost a game have they
Hawks have 9 wins & 7 losses in 6th spot.

While that's all very well, what kept coming into my mind as I watched today (particularly Gus) was how many of our players can't run or jump or catch or kick.
Aside from the fact the majority of the team showed minimal football understanding and NO effort to team together, how is it possible that Gus can be on an AFL list for over six years and demonstrate lower physical skills than when he started. I can remember Gus in the open training session when he first joined Richmond keeping Richo flat out in a 400 metre run. Now he can't get out of a jog, his leap is a foot, takes seconds to change direction etc. Browne is also no more athletic than when he arrived in 2008 and probably worse if you compare his TAC form to wehat he delivers now.
Of course the usual thing is to blame Hardwick and the other coaches, after all they've been there for since the 2010 season. ::)
-
While they kept showing the despair of coach Adam Potter, I kept thinking about who Cameron is going to get to coach our VFL team.
The idea that Cameron will put together an administration and coaching panel for a VFL team just fills me with horror.
Everybody wants a VFL team and doesn't even give a thought to the club's ability to actually make it function.

Settle down ya peanut, i think the club has done well assembling our off field over te last 18 months, no doubt we can do same at vfl level
-
Is Astbury just getting over his injury blues or something as I havent been impressed with him at the coburg at all.
-
watching astbury the past few weeks ,the thing i notice is his lack of intensity.Seems quite content to sit back rather than to get involved. He needs to start announcing himself more.

Where's Biscuit at?

see mitch hallahan in box hill bests. not getting a game at hawthorn liked him as a junior wonder if he would be worth targeting.

Stop abusing people who don't get on their knees for everything Richmond. I have had enough of it and you've been reported you bad man.

Not saying Astbury will or won't make it eventually but this year is a write off for him. Playing now is just about building confidence in his body after missing practically 18 month or so of footy. He wouldn't missed last preseason so his fitness base will be below what it needs to be. IMO we should judge him on what he does next year after a full preseason.

VIDEO: Coburg highlights against Box Hill last weekend ...

:lol
Geez highlights can make some players look good.
Derickx looks like a pack marking machine with a tank like Richo. A. Maric looks like the next Trent Cotchin, Browne and Gus make it look like we're spoiled for ruck options with their tap work, marking power and goal kicking abilities.

While they kept showing the despair of coach Adam Potter, I kept thinking about who Cameron is going to get to coach our VFL team.
Hopefully Matty Knights

Development coach Greg Mellor's summary of how the Richmond-listed players performed at Coburg last Saturday...
Ben Darrou
Dylan Grimes has been working closely with Ben, videoing and giving feedback on his defensive actions, particularly his footwork and sparring techniques. In a solid performance, it was pleasing to see a strong improvement from him in these areas.
Dave Astbury
A four-quarter effort from Dave as a key defender. He is now getting close to being considered again for AFL selection. His defensive techniques were stronger and less conservative than in recent weeks, and his ability to use the ball well was pleasing to see.
Todd Elton
A quiet game from Todd, although he did take a couple of impressive marks and kick two goals. His work rate is good, we just need him to stay in the game for longer.
Steve Verrier
Continues to develop his defensive side through run-with roles. Last Saturday, he did a good job on a couple of quality opponents, before copping a knock just after half-time, which sidelined him for the rest of the match. Should be right to play this weekend, however.
Angus Graham
Angus has played a lot of good football this season and dominated at VFL level, but this was not one of those games. We expect a much better performance next-up.
Tom Derickx
Tom worked hard and was good early, before dropping away during the middle part of the game. His last quarter, though, was excellent, with three very strong, contested marks and two shots for goal. The aim for him is to sustain that effort over four quarters.
Brad Miller
Brad continues to be the ultimate professional. He is assisting Tom Derickx and Todd Elton with their football development. And, he’s playing some pretty good footy himself, as evidenced with his four goals and nine marks against Box Hill.
Adam Maric
Adam worked really hard in his return to VFL level and finished the match with 35 disposals. A feature of his game was his centre-clearance work, which we were really happy with. Uncharacteristically, however, he missed a few targets. I’m sure he will be better in this area next game.
Jeromey Webberley
Due to his sore groins, ‘Jezza’ found it hard to get across the ground when the ball transitioned from offense to defence. But, when move up forward, he was dangerous, providing several score assists. It looks like he will have surgery on his adductor muscle, which has significantly hindered him throughout the second half of the year.
Brett O’Hanlon
Another solid game from Brett. His ability to be a link player is very important to the team and he is playing his role well. Despite a quiet start, he managed to finish with 20 possessions.
Andrew Browne
Probably Andrew’s best game for the year. He rucked extremely well and constantly gave our midfielders first use of the ball. His marking continues to improve, but we need more grabs from him like the strong pack mark he took in the third quarter. A Dustin Martin-like baulk and goal from 50 metres out in the last quarter was a significant highlight from the likeable big man.
Piva Wright
A strong defensive game from Piva in his return to VFL seniors from the development league. His ability to engage physically with his opponent at all contests, demonstrated an improvement in his concentration. Provided some good offensive run in the last quarter, but was a little quieter than usual. A pleasing game nonetheless.

Sometimes you wonder why this guy just cannot write the truth for a change? Astbury was not good and Addam Maric was playing for Box Hill with the amount of turn overs in the 1st half........
-
Sometimes you wonder why this guy just cannot write the truth for a change?
He didn't miss Goose.
-
He could not ignore the hit out stats and the fact that Angus just did not like the mud in the centre. Got stuck too much when he tried to jump.
