Title: Justin Charles
Post by: 2JD on May 03, 2005, 09:51:24 AM
Does anyone know what Justin Charles is up to now. He was one of my favorite players. The "effervesent" Justin Charles kicking it to Scotty Turner in the '95 final ;D
Silly boy who did a silly thing and became famous for the wrong reason
I remember telling him at a family day that i had written a letter of support to him during his suspension, and he said he was answering all the mail he got, I said "wlel its not like youve got much else to do". He looked a little taken aback, Bennt Gale cracked up laughing lol

I think in 98 he started playing baseball in the lower leagues here with a mate of mine. The last I heard was he was doing plumbing (or some trade) and continueing with his baseball down here for fun....

Source: I was best mates with Terry Wheeler's son and he used to keep in touch with the other TW often. Last update was early 99 though.

Justin Charles played baseball for Port Melbourne for awhile (he doesn't play there anymore). Not sure if he istill playing baseball anymore

Coached one of the teams in the old FDL - I think they call it the Western Region league or something like that now.

For a time he was working with his Dad as plumber (he is a qualified plumber)

Justin was at Club80 function a couple of months ago - he said at that night he had set up his own business (can't remember what's it called) but it is one of those motivational speaking type companies

From an article Feb 2005:

As a result of his own experiences, Charles is starting a business called Set For Life, which will advise professional sportsmen. "I want to help those players the system chews up and spits out," Charles said. "The insidious thing about the AFL system is that there's little preparation for life after football. You come in with great expectations, but only a few make it."

He did some dumb things, but i reckon he was a scapegoat for lots of players who probably took steroids.
Hope he has gotten on with his life and he's doing well.
