Title: Ratten sacked [confirmed]
Post by: one-eyed on August 29, 2012, 01:12:36 PM
SEN saying Ratten is meeting the Carlton board right now. Harford said there's word that Ratten has been told he won't be coaching Carlton beyond this year. It's being alleged that it got a bit heated in there and Ratten has refused to coach the side in this last round. The Blues' Board is trying to get him to change his mind and coach this weekend.

A reminder it's SEN so take from that what you will.

Update: Ratten officially sacked. Just announced on the Herald-Sun site.

SEN now saying Carlton have come out and said they do have a couple of directors meeting at the club today but it has nothing to do with Ratten and denied previous reports in the media that a decision on Ratten has been made.

As I said it's SEN.

I heard twice, whilst sitting in traffic, after someone came up and asked me about Matt Dea, that Ratts has said FU and walked before being sacked.

BRETT Ratten’s coaching career at Carlton is finished. His official termination will be announced at 9.30am Thursday at a press conference at Visy Park headed by president Stephen Kernahan, Ratten and club chief executive Greg Swann.

Insisting that Ratten would coach against St Kilda on Sunday, Kernahan is understood to have scheduled tomorrow’s announcement after talks with Ratten this afternoon.

Kernahan told The Age that the club was sticking to a timeline it is understood to have put in place over recent days, determined Ratten would at least see out the season. The former club captain and coach of more than five years has one year remaining on his contract.

His payout is expected to cost the club at least $500,000. Mick Malthouse looks certain to take over next season.

Kernahan’s announcment came after several hours of intense speculation including claims that Ratten had already been sacked and would not coach against the Saints.

Spoke well at his press conference.

Mick now saying he hasn't committed to any coaching job I'd laugh if that was true and he doesn't accept the job at Carlton.

Quote
MICK Malthouse has told a Melbourne radio station on Thursday he is still yet to decide if he wants to coach next year.

The former West Coast and Collingwood premiership coach is seen as the most likely replacement for sacked Carlton coach Brett Ratten.

But, speaking immediately after the announcement of Ratten's sacking on Thursday morning, Malthouse said he had made it clear to his manager he didn't want to discuss possible coaching jobs until he had concluded his media commitments this season.

"There are not a lot of coaches out there, and people will speculate, but ... I am [still] up in the air about returning to the coaching field," Malthouse told the Neil Mitchell morning program on 3AW.

"There are two vacancies, one in Adelaide (at Port Adelaide) and one in Melbourne.

"Whether I throw my hat in there, this is honest, do I really want to put my head in the noose?

"Because that's what you do.

"You don't coach nine to five; it's all-absorbing, and these are the things I've got to look at and decide with my family.

"I've made it very clear to my manager - don't start involving me in things until I've concluded my jobs that I've got, and things can then be looked at in the cool light of dawn."

Malthouse said media commentary criticising him for making public comment before Ratten was removed had given him reason to be hesitant about a return to coaching.

They would have some sort of guarantee in place you would imagine before sacking Ratten.

Would be good for a laff WP

But I think Mark Williams is very much in the picture anyway, and Paul Roos is an outside chance

They wont be too hard up for premiership coaches to choose from

Personally think Choco is the best choice

He was the worst coach in the league in 2010. Horrible. Disgusting. Putrid. Even GWS have stuck with Sheeds for another year

Chocco missed out on a flag in 1981 thanks to Carlton maybe he can run them into the ground for three years with a list that's not too disimilar to Port's post their 2007 GF failure.

Would love to see Chocco get the job at Carlskata.

Geez that would be a scream  :pray.

Which club got rid of their coach a couple of years back thinking Michael Voss, who was in the media at the time, was after a senior coach role before Voss changed his mind and decided to head to West Coast as an assistant? Was it Carlton again with Pagan or Essendon with Sheedy? It would be hilarious if the Blues get rejected at the last moment by a high profile favoured candidate once again  :lol  :pray.

Title: Ratten joins Hawks
Post by: tiger101 on October 05, 2012, 05:45:21 PM
FORMER Carlton coach Brett Ratten will be plotting against the Blues next year after joining rival AFL club Hawthorn as an assistant coach.

Ratten, a Carlton premiership player and captain, coached the Blues from partway through 2007 until the end of this year's season when he was replaced by Mick Malthouse.

The move comes after Hawks assistant Leon Cameron joined Greater Western Sydney under a plan to succeed Giants head coach Kevin Sheedy.

“Brett is an excellent addition to our coaching line-up and will bring a great deal of experience and coaching nous to our club,” Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson said.

“With Leon's recent departure, it's pleasing that a coach of Brett's calibre can step in immediately.”

Ratten will start his new job next month.
