Assistant (backline) coach Justin Leppitsch was on SEN after midday today with Daniel Harford....
* What does Richmond need going forward?
- Missing that last key defender. We have Rance and Grimes (who we have missed). Griffiths and Post been filling in for that last key defender role.
- More midfield depth.
- Even more half-forwards. Nahas, Edwards and A.Maric are small in stature. We need a Paul Chapman stocky half-forward type.
* Cotch - inconsistencies with his body in the first couple of years Leppa and Dimma have been at Punt Rd but now he is the complete player. Such poise.
* Lade and Danny Daly have done a good job with our mids this year.
* Depth is the issue. Mostly due to it being inexperienced - Ellis, Conca, etc still young. The good news for Tiger fans is the depth has quality it's just young so that depth will come with more experience.
* Biggest improvers this year?
Rance - last 8 weeks has been okay but overall this year he's really improved.
Grigg - made the biggest jump this year. Getting a heap of the footy to the point he's now getting tagged most weeks which is a feather in his cap.

Comments coming out of the club re another KPD to release Rance to the midfield is clearly setting up for the announcement that we have signed Chaplin.
Stocky half forward - Knights?

Stocky half forward - Knights?
I was thinking a couple of years ago having Rance in the middle. He'll be playing the Adam Goodes role of giant midfielder.

Not keen on Knights but that's what it sounds like. Chaplin will allow Rance and Grimes to attack more, will be a great back line in years to come.

Why release a guy to the midfield that can't kick or make good decisions under pressure?

Rance or Grimes? I don't think they have been too bad when they push up, especially Grimes. I guess the key is that it will create depth to have him and also ensure neither Rance or Grimes has to be the last line of defense.

Thighs like tree trunks, biggest biceps in Adelaide.
Doesn't get blown over when someone sneezes.

Rance. In what world is he a midfielder. Barely getting the job down back at the moment.

Leppitsch also spoke about the improvement in our gamestyle and what further improvements are needed. We've become competitive most weeks. We've been in every game barring the Freo one in Perth where the scoreboard flattered us. Leppa said we are moving the ball well (cohesion been good) and our open field defence has been good (credited Ross Smith for that) but we need to get better at our in-close defence (ie. our contesting has been good but we need to improve our tackling, etc).
Against Essendon we moved the ball out of defence well but our centre forward composure was lacking. We couldn't find those options and lower our eyes. That happens with young sides who aren't use to being that dominant and that far in front. We also sit at the lower end of the comp. when it comes to accuracy. It has cost us a spot in the finals.

Yeah, agreed he isn't a midfielder. I think he cuts off opposition attacks well and rebounds well while doing it (pushing up the ground), getting Chaplin will allow him to do that more 'freely' without having to worry about no one behind him if he stuffs up.
Re-read the first post, it doesn't say anywhere Rance will become a midfielder (I don't think that's in their plans). 8)

No, 37 is saved for when Posty steps down as captain.

Instead the button saying "post" to add a reply, can it be changed to "37" or "jet"?
