How did you rate our season all up? 8 / 10
Great year Boys were in every game
Midfield: Lids move in there made us elite Ivan was a god send
Forward line : Pathetic and even Jack at times was dismal Edwards showed some promise glad to see the end of Miller
Back line : Superb i really thought no Lids back there we would struggle but Rance , Morris and co were great
What went right? Everything off field and most of our recruits , increased win /loss ratio and games into Conca, Ellis,Griffiths ,Post and co also big kudos to our midfield ( not Dusty though )
What went wrong? Thought Dusty's skill use dropped off a lot this year , Miller and A Maric showed why they used to play for Melbourne and our 2nd quarters frustrated me more than the close losses
Who surprised/stepped up this year? Edwards was pretty decent up forward. Morris and Maric pleasantly surprised me
Who disappointed ? Beefcake -_- Nahas -_- White -_- Derickx -_- Webberly -_- Mc Spud and also to Taylor,Heslin and Mc Donald good riddance
-
How did you rate our season all up? gave us a five, the close losses cost us finals. And although I wasn't expecting finals some of those losses were simple unacceptable (btw I include the "draw " last week as a loss.
What went right? we were competitive in eveqry game. So not getting smashed was a massive positive, our improved percentage a positive, off field we've got things very right with sponsors singed up long term. The FTF has been a success. Player wise we got that Maric trade spot on
What went wrong? those bloody losses ;D starting with the eagles game was the most costly loss of the season for me. Seeing grimes go down again, ditto Foley
Who surprised/stepped up this year? Edwards, Morris, Maric, Tuck
Who disappointed? Post, jackson (again), Graham, Vickery
Best win? Hawthorn with st Kilda a close second
Worst loss? as mentioned the Eagles game with the Freo at the G debacle not far behind
Season highlight? Cotchin moving into the category of ELITE player in thee comp
-
5/10 bitterely dissapointed we couldnt capitalise, undoubtedly the most talented side outside the 8 i know there are more than a couple of teams pleased we dipped out :shh....we would have given it one heck of a shake alas we will be better for a fairdinkum tilt in 2013 where whoa, i have serious top 4 expectations :clapping
-
How did you rate our season all up? 5/10. Not good enough. We are better than 12th. We made improvement and were competitive every week which is fantastic. Next year that's not enough, time for finals.
What went right? Ivan Maric trade + Steve Morris. Also not getting smashed was good
What went wrong? Losing close games we should have won. Grimesy and Foley getting injured + retirement of Milzy
Who surprised/stepped up this year? Grigg, Maric, Edwards, Morris & Tuck (he didn't surprise me but he certainly stepped up)
Who disappointed? Daniel Jackson, Chris Newman, Ty Vickery & forward coach Williams
Best win? Hawthorn
Worst loss? Gold Coast
Season highlight? Chimp being Chimp

What went right? maric morris
What went wrong? not learning to play out and win winnablw games
Who surprised/stepped up this year? maric grigg
Who disappointed? hardwick, newman nahas white jackson foley
-
What's with the hatred of Foley?
-
injury prone, runs sideways most the time, and sub standard foot skills
full stop, white mans rodan
-
How did you rate our season all up? 5 out of 10. Did not get thrashed once. Always in the hunt but lost games we should have won and didn't bury sides when should have.
What went right? Competitive in every game. Recruitment of Maric and Morris
What went wrong? Injuries to King, Vickery, Grimes and Foley etc. Inaccurate kicking. Fowardline structure. Lack of composure at critical moments in a game. Lack of depth
Who surprised/stepped up this year? Edwards
Who disappointed? Post, jackson
Best win? Hawthorn but it was great to beat sides like St. Kilda and the Bulldogs that we hadn't beaten for ages
Worst loss? Freo or Suns game
Season highlight? Cotchin, Tuck, Deledio and Maric all had great years. Grigg and Morris also had very good years as well

gave em a 7 reckon they did real well with the list we have.

How did you rate our season all up? 3 out of 10
What went right? We were competitive for most of the season
What went wrong? We lost unloseable games clearly lacking strategies to finish games
Who surprised/stepped up this year? Lots of players improved. Highlight was I.Maric
Who disappointed? Vickery didnt fire, Newman, Post and afew others
Best win? Hawthorn
Worst loss? Our win against St Kilda should be considered a loss, from that game on our team changed the way they played. Emphasis on defence almost went out the window, I reckon it cost us games later in the season
Season highlight? Watching Cotchin play footy.
-
How did you rate our season all up?
4/10. No finals for the 11th year in a row. Lost matches we were expected to win and couldn't "put away" teams that were below average.
What went right?
Cotchin was injury free. Maric's hitouts to advantage were good which we haven't had since Simmonds. We have found a very good tall defender in Grimes, Morris very hard and fearless which is great!
What went wrong?
Our game plan STILL doesn't suit us, our entry into the forward line was a disgrace and literally cost us wins! Foley's injury was the beginning of the end for us. We never looked the same in the midfield despite Cotchin's wonderful individual efforts. Our lack of composure and confidence in the backline cost us easy, very easy goals.
Who surprised/stepped up this year?
Morris, couldn't see that aggression in him.
Cotchin, new level now and he knows he is the leader of this team.
Maric, didn't realise he could take a contested mark.
Grimes, took his game to a new level too, he knows he belongs now!
Who disappointed?
Deledio, don't worry about the 2nd B&F, all the possessions and in the All Australian squad, this guy is meant to be better than Cotchin and meant to win matches on his own like Cotchin and Riewoldt can. this guy always goes missing when we are down and out!
Fremantle at the MCG, Gold Coast, Carlton twice, GWS, Melbourne twice, Port Adelaide, Geelong, Adelaide. I expected him to move from B to A with Cotchin and Riewoldt, but he will always be a "B".
Conca, not as damaging as we all hopes for. Disposal is still a problem, seems a bit slow too.
Hardwick's inability to adjust to "on the spot" match tactics. eg: leaving Pavlich, Walker, Petire one on one and leaving our forward line crowded.
No winning mentality, loosing matches when we have been infront in the last quarter, no killing attitude to WIN, WIN, WIN, WIN!!! this could psychologically fudge us up!
Game plan, we fight way to hard to kick goals and good teams make goals look effortless. this contested plan of ours will not last to long and we need to use skills and run to beat teams.

10/10 Tigeriffic :gotigers
-
I thought it was a 6-7 out of 10.
You lose close games from good reason - our was inexperience and poor leadership on and off field. The consistent competitiveness was beyond my expectations, we keep that up and learn to win the tight ones, we leap frog the Roos, dockers etc
-
Would think you're pretty stiff on Lids Torch... Of the games you mentioned he was in our best 3 in 4 of them (GWS, Gold Coast, Gee, Ade). Don't think you can just forget about 2nd in a B & F, top 10 in the league in disposals, 1st in inside 50's, and 10th in the coaches votes (clearly showing the respect he has garnered amongst the league). Sure he had quiet moments, but overall it was a very good season and his development as a midfileder certainly helped Cotch's progression.
Gave the season a 6. Massive tick for competitiveness great actually being in every game in the last quarter. Recruitment of Maric and Morris as others have mentioned is also a big tick for our recruiting department.
Big negative obviously being the inability to close out games. Would like to have seen a bit more development from our kpp prospects as well (Griff, Astbury, Post).
-
How did you rate our season all up? 6 out of 10
What went right? We went from having no good rucks, to having one of the best in the league for pick 37. We were competitive in almost all games. Cotchin. FTF. Membership.
What went wrong? Lost some important players to injury, exposing our lack of depth. Lost too many close games.
Who surprised/stepped up this year? I. Maric, Morris, Edwards, Grigg, Tuck
Who disappointed? Vickery, Post, A. Maric after his good NAB cup.
Best win? Hawthorn, Sydney
Worst loss? Adelaide, we played the best 1st quarter i've seen in a very long time. We had a chance to make a big statement. 5 minutes into the 2nd quarter Adelaide had closed the gap by 3 goals already and from then on we were always going to lose.
Season highlight? Cotchin and Morris' attack on the ball
-
How did you rate our season all up? 6 out of 10
What went right? We were competitive in most games and were within striking distance in every game at some point in the last quarter.
What went wrong? Narrow defeats, composure at critical times let us down. West Coast Adelaide, Gold Coast Nought Carlton even the draw against Port. Injuries to critical players, Vickery, Foley, Grimes
Who surprised/stepped up this year? Grigg, Cotchin, Batchelor,Griffiths, Morris, Ellis,Ivan
Who disappointed?
Best win? Hawthorn clearly, Sydney one was good too. Both 2012 GF sides.
Worst loss? Adelaide 33 points up at quarter time, Miller running into an open goal from 45 one minute into the second with a player running past kicks 20 metres sideways to Jack with two blokes on him still 45 metres out. Opportunity to carry new momentum and a 39 point lead gone. We won that game and we would have certainly beaten GC and the Filth and 90% Nought. Three more wins takes us to 13.5 and Port 14 wins. :-\
Season highlight? Cotch week in week out. Beating Hawthorn the way we did. If they win the flag we can at least brag we were the catalyst of their success.
Officially ending Essendon's season.
Breaking the 9 year hoodoo against the sinners.

Harsh - but fair call
Delidio did not do enough to impose himself on games - especially getting beaten twice by Crowley. I think the opposition know that he & Cothin running lose can damage the most - that's why it was surprising that he always got the best tag.

When has Jack ever won a game on his own?
Love the bloke but...
:cheers
-
He kicked ten against the Weagles a few years back. Some may say it one game Jack won off his own back.
The eight he kicked against the Saints earlier this year may be used as another example.
Apart from that......

When he comes out and kicks five in the last quarter to get us over the line (eg Nathan Brown) then you can say he won the match for us.
Good player but...
Not yet a champion.

Agree, definately not champion status by any strech. Five goals in the first quarter that cracks the game apart is not match winning?

Its been a very very long time since Richmond have provided a genuine contest every week....a year containing no ugly blow outs.
None of our victories where flukes. All solid wins. Some of our victories were so one sided they were boring (WOW...imagine saying that 2 years ago)
Richmond still struggles to put teams away...instead of a quick kill we like to play "death of a thousand cuts". Can be extremely frustrating.
We may of won more games in 2006 & 08 however Blind Freddy can see this is the best Tiger team since we last played finals.
The nightmare is that we will continue to improve next year and still miss out on September action.

How your team fared
By Michael Rogers
Wednesday, September 19, 2012
Source: BigPond Sport
RICHMOND
What went right
The addition of workhorse ruckman Ivan Maric, the blossoming of Trent Cotchin and Shane Tuck's late flourish gave the Tigers a midfield that could match it with the best. Alex Rance's development into a reliable key defender stabilised the backline and Jack Riewoldt managed to win the Coleman Medal in a season that wasn't one of his best. Wins over Hawthorn, St Kilda and Essendon boosted confidence, as did narrow losses to North Melbourne and Carlton.
What went wrong
Another horror loss to Gold Coast in Cairns effectively killed the Tigers' finals dreams and a draw with Port Adelaide wasn't much better. Consistency against the teams Richmond are expected to beat remains an issue. In terms of individual players, Tyrone Vickery was a disappointment after a breakout 2011 while Daniel Connors and Dustin Martin needed to apply themselves more thoroughly to their footy careers, as evidenced by their missed training session during the season.
Top three in 2012: Trent Cotchin, Brett Deledio, Ivan Maric
Rating: 6/10

Losses biggest was 44 points
then two from 20-30 points 22 Fremantle 21 Collingwood
Two in the teens 19 Essendon 19 Adelaide
Six 12 points or under Fremantle 12 Geelong 10 West Coast 10 Nought 4 Carlscum 4 Gold Coast 2
We had one draw against Port
Wins
2 by 10 goals plus Western Bulldogs 70 Hawthorn 62
1 by 49-60 Melbourne 59
3 by 37-48 Port Adelaide 37 Essendon 45 Brisbane 48
1 by 25-36 Sydney 29
1 by 13-24 Melbourne 23
2 by 1-12 GWS 12 St Kilda 8
Some big wins there where we didn't go through the heart pains of a close finish but cancelled out by 6 losses under 12 points. A season of what ifs but statistically one of our best in ages and further improvement and development in the list as well as more experience in the young cubs and some toughness on and off the field will ensure that finals footy should occur in 2013. :thumbsup

The beaten brigade analysed: we take a look at what went wrong for your AFL team in season 2012
By John Clark and Ben Higgins
FOX SPORTS
September 24, 2012 4:00PM
As the AFL's grand finalists ready for battle, we've taken a step back to review the beaten brigade of 2012.
Richmond (10-1-11, 12th place)
What went wrong: The Tigers lost to the Suns by two points in round 16, to North Melbourne by four points a week later, and to Carlton by the same amount in round 18. That's why they're not playing finals footy.
What went right: Ivan Maric was injected into the group and gave Richmond's talent-packed midfield first-class service and some real grunt. Trent Cotchin moved into the AFL's elite and they won 10 games (plus a draw) with a percentage of 111.6 - that's an improvement on last year's eight-and-a-half wins and percentage of 86.4.
Star performer: Cotchin elevated his game and gave the midfield of Richmond a classy edge they've needed to go with the workmanlike types in there. He could be the first Richmond Brownlow Medal winner since Ian Stewart in 1971.
Crystal ball: The Tigers stirred in the middle stages of the season and looked on course for a long-awaited finals return. Then, when the pressure was upped, they unravelled. To expect to climb again in 2013 would be dangerous but they look well placed. They have all the weapons to finish in the top eight but much will depend on finding a key defender to shore up their back half and the maturity that ought to come with another pre-season in this group.

Ch 7 this morning rated each team's season and Lethal gave us a B- because although we finished 12th we improved on last year in terms of wins and we beat the two grand finalists.
