Title: The big dance
Post by: cub on September 20, 2012, 05:01:27 PM
What's the vibe around this joint?

Me, I prefer neither of Whorethorn & obviously Skunks! Adelaide wouldn't bother me that much but will be going the Swans FWIW.

If Sydney get up Friday will be going for Crows Saturday otherwise I'm on the Poos and wees  :banghead

I can't watch with any real interest . . . you should try run a sweeps (first goal kicker each qtr, norm smith medal winner, most touches etc.) with your mates. One way it becomes more interesting.

Syndey make me :chuck, but i hope they end the pies season on the weekend.

Hawks should beat Adelaide and then , given Sydney's poor form at the 'G in recent times, should take home the chockies.

Then we will have got through yet another pointless September and onto October, where at least we have some interest :P

Agree with the Swannies sentiments

But there is always a part of me that has no probs if the Pies win it because my Dad loved the Pies

Having said that think it will be Hawks -v- Pies grand final myself

Hawks for me, hate the club actually think their supporters are the worst in the comp.
Childish, banal banter at the footy when you play them.
When they get beat, talk about spit the lollies like a big baby - waaaaaah

However, I think our model of play most resembles what the Hawks have built over the last 5 years.
If it wins them a flag, it gives our "program" more credibility.

Swans are one of  the sides I'll have an interest in, having lived there a few years ago.
Just dislike their style of play, although it's improved since Roos left.

Crows and Pies? If they played the GF in my backyard, I'd draw the curtains in my lounge room

I know its a week out still but Im not feeling grand final excitement.
I think the Hawks are just that much in front of the 3 other teams in fork and skill.
Im hoping the swans get the upset this weekend over the pies. Hawks v Swans grandfinal.

I too want the Swans to win.
So little hype but they are a lot better than they are credited for.
There is a lot of talent in that team.

Some of my family and a close mate of mine are Hawthorn fans.

Would like to see them get up b/c of this.

Although I do agree with the sentiments that some Hawthorn fans have this inferiority complex not like Nought's only fan but footy banter where Hawthorn is the joke is taken personally.

Have seen it at the footy and with some people I have encountered. Unpleasant to say the least.

Dislike Collingwood.
Sydney well I have a respect for them but still remember Longmire kicking 12 against us in 1990.
Adelaide not this year.

Want a Sydney/Hawthorn grand final.

Why ?... so we can say
(1) we have the coleman medalist
(2) we have the brownlow medalist [fingers crossed]
(3) we have flogged both grand finalist.

Hopefully it also motivates our boys over this upcoming preseason and makes them think what they are missing out on because they played crap against the bottom sides in the 2nd half of the year.

Having said that I would love the Hawks come out complacent tomorrow thinking they only have to show up and thn lose  :pray.

Would think the Hawks have much to think about re:- injuries and being exposed by Adelaide after tonight.
Sydney would've beaten that Hawk effort quite easily.
Rebound 50 stat to the Crows was amazing

Big ground won't help Sydney they struggle at the G, but they did overcome recent history last night also against the Skunks. If next Saturday is going to go to the wire like tonight did then bring it on. I think we are in store for a classic: Two contrasting styles, Swans are more even but the Hawks bat deeper into their list. I still think the Hawks.

GRANT Birchall believes Hawthorn’s Round 9 loss to Richmond was the push it needed to build consistency in the second half of the season.

As the Hawks prepare for a grand final showdown with Sydney, the rangy defender reflected on what was a shock 62-point loss at the hands of the Tigers.

From that point on, the Hawks went on a rampage, dealing out heavy losses to all opponents for the next nine rounds (including the bye).

We'll probably get the same reason from the Swans too as we flogged them as well  :-\.

ill probably get howled down for making this
observation, but nothing i have seen in the final series
we didnt match or better throughout our season we just didnt
have consistenacy over a whole game.

will watch with interest the standard so far its
been ho hum.

really miss watching a Geelong that plays a great of football.

go Swans.

those hawks are full of themselves.

Mumford in doubt to play for the Swans. Apparently he tweaked his hammy at training on Thursday and will have a fitness test just before the game starts.

Title: Re: The big dance
Post by: mightytiges on September 29, 2012, 02:28:04 PM
If Mumford goes down I can't see the Swans winning.

Sydney's main chance of causing an upset is to get the ball in quick and often into their forward line. Hawthorn's defence is their weakness especially Shoenmakers one-on-one.

Hawks smashing the Swans in the midfield so far. Just going in harder to win it. If this keeps going Hawks will win in a canter.

Go Swannies  :thumbsup.

It must really hard to kick goals at the Richmond end today. Just one flukey Jacko-like one to Malceski compared to 10 goals at the City End.

Post by: mightytiges on September 29, 2012, 04:38:00 PM
Mitchell stuffed up the Hawks momentum giving away that dumb 50 to McVeigh. The Swans needed that goal big time. Jetta's push on Suckling should have been down the ground. A lucky break for the Swans.

Hawks go into 3/4 time with the run but the breeze is definitely to the City End. Suckling's bomb went 80m and 15 of the 19 goals have been kicked at that end.

Well done Swannies. Thanks for not letting the Hawks get to 11 flags  :thumbsup.

What a Grand Final! Huge momentum swings and not just due to the breeze. Conceding the last 4 goals of the game after looking like winners will haunt Hawthorn for a long time.

True WP. Rioli had a poor game as did Roughead. Hodge wasn't fit. Clarkson was predictable with his coaching. It didn't look like he made too many moves out of the ordinary. The Swannies would've been happy to see Burgoyne in defence. Too much left to Sewell and Mitchell in the midfield.

Hawk fans on their forum are turning on Buddy over his poor goalkicking  :lol.

Someone tell me again how Franklin's poor kicking and us constantly looking for him is NOT going to cost us a Grand Final.

I'm starting to think the current method of recruitment we have is more modelled on Sydney than the Hawks. Hard nuts by the score. As a result I think Garlett will be off the table for us in the Draft.....so be it.

Hawthorn only have a few true ball winners but destroy teams once they get it out. Sydney on the other hand almost every player can win their own footy. I noticed Hawthorn tried isolating Shaw and Malceski deep a couple times but they held their own. And the rebound Sydney pressured the Hawks' play makers like Birchell and go and besides a good 60m run and carry, did sweet stuff all.
