Next up is Jake Batchelor.
After being left out of the round 1 side, the 19 year old returned to the side the following week and ended up playing 14 games this year to take his career tally to 30. He missed rounds 17-21 after injuring his knee in our loss to Gold Coast up in Cairns. His best performances for the season were 23 disp. & 9 marks vs Collingwood (r2), 23 disp. & 6 marks vs Geelong (r4), 22 disp. & 5 marks vs St Kilda (r10) and 20 disp. & 5 marks vs Port (r6).

How did we all rate Batch's 2012?
-
You left out the flogging he dished out to piggy Hurley.
-
6. Solid. Was disappointed he didn't play round one due to the coach having favourites

True ;D.
Batch also collected 18 possies and 6 marks that night too.
-
Good without being outstanding. Had a bit of 2nd year blues
Lot of upside though as he can play on smalls and talls.
Wonder if they could throw him in the middle and play him as an inside mid as a bit of pinch hitter?

He played on Hurley for 20 minutes? Hurley then went down back & was close to BOG.

Bit of Joel Bowden about this guy. That's a good thing.
Sorry Oxx and other Bowdo haters.

Lol BOG. He was moved down back because he couldn't get near it. All hail Batch. :bow

Suggest you watch the game again. Hurley was very good after being quiet up forward because the ball wasn't going down there. You see, Hurls is a gun. If his side is getting beaten then they can throw him down back as he is a quality defender as well as being a good forward. Our last player who could do something similar to that was Ben Holland :lol

I just watched it today. ;) I said Batch flogged him. He was better/good down back but certainly not BOG. You could argue he was their best player after half time though.

Yeah I like to exaggerate. Batch didn't flog him, I'd say he beat him. It was a very good early performance from Jake. he had the closing speed on Hurley. If Hurley wasn't required down back then chances are he could have gone on to play a good game up forward. 20 minutes or so is all Hurley got up forward. We'd defend Riewoldt if he got moved to CHB to help the team

Beat turns to flog when it's one of the bummerblitz all conquering heroes. ;D

For pick 30 F.J got this right never going to be a world beater but is a middle class blue collar defender with plenty of upside and does his job pretty well ...Is it just me but he seems to never crack a smile he would of made a good fast bowler
-
In our best back six.
-
agree re the Bowdo comparisons...think he fills an important need as that "'tweener" defender...think there is some upside and agree J2T that he was worth the pick at 30...think he will be a reliable defender for the future and possibly push up to the wing...
as far as his year goes, I would've thought a 6 would be fair
-
6. disappoint part of his game this yr was the fumbles hardly ever seemed to be one touch.
-
i think you got that in your head and then couldnt see past it craw. Yeah, there were times when he got the fumbles early in the year, but there were plenty of times he was clean too
-
I thought he was inconsistent last season. Moreso than his 1st year which suggests major upside. I wonder if he maybe got a little ahead of himself last pre season which is why he was overlooked for round 1. Reckon he's way tougher than Bowden with less class but can see the comparisons
-

yeah you could be right maybe i started looking for the mistakes. i also agree there were lots of times in games he was clean not saying every time he went to the ball he fumbled just that they were occuring most games which for me was far too often.

Very good intercept Mark. Has alot of upside to him. Sometimes turns the ball over when not under pressure but usually is a good kick. Agree with WP had abit of the second year blues. Believe he is going to be a very good player
-

And you say that Dimma has favorites!!!!
:lol

At least mine can play :lol

5.5/10 from me.
Weird season and probably along with Vickery & to a lesser extent Martin was one of the bigger disappointments of the year in terms of expectation meeting output.
Had a few injuries leading into the season but then they tried him on the ball in the NAB cup which was an interesting move by the coaching staff.
It didn't really work and seemed to lose his way a bit from there on.
The one grab confidence of last year went out to lunch and he looked sluggish and bereft of confidence. This continued for several weeks into the year until his bright spot against Hurley Burley which was a timely reminder of his ability.
The calls of getting ahead of himself are probably a bit harsh but perhaps may have realised his limitations as a player. Part of the journey so no issues there.
He has a good intercept grab but currently I definitely prefer Grimes as the third man up in terms of pace, skill and decision making.
So IMO Batchelor still has it ahead of himself to establish himself in the side. Good depth option and will continue to develop.
-
Sums it up for me MM, I gave him a 5 because I thought 6 was too generous based on output, not potential.
-
Compared to last year he seemed to drop a little. His tackling was my favourite feature which dropped this year, but hopefully picks back up has plenty of time to
