Tigers forbid Dustin Martin and former teammate Daniel Connors from socialising

RICHMOND has banned superstar midfielder Dustin Martin from socialising with former teammate Daniel Connors.
The Tigers have become increasingly concerned with Martin's behaviour and recently ordered him to stay away from Connors, who was sacked last July when the pair took sleeping pills and slept through a training session.
In an exclusive interview with the Herald Sun, Connors broke his silence and revealed his hopes of resurrecting his career in tomorrow's national draft.
The 24-year-old, whose ability has never been questioned, says he has changed his life and would repay a club prepared to take a punt with a late pick.
But he admitted the fallout from the sleep-in that cost him his job at Richmond and saw Martin suspended for two weeks, was ongoing.
"`Dusty' is my best mate, but I don't think the club is real keen on him hanging out with me,'' Connors said.
"They told him he's not allowed to hang out with me, but I can still speak to him on the phone. I still speak to him every day.''
Connors, speaking for the first time since that fateful July night, also revealed:
HE had taken the powerful anxiety and insomnia drug diazepam _ prescribed to him by a club doctor _ before going to bed.
THE only reason he and Martin, who took a sleeping tablet after drinking two bourbons, failed to wake was because Connors' phone went flat in the middle of the night and the alarm didn't go off.
HE eventually woke to find assistant coach Wayne Campbell in his living room looking for answers.
COACH Damien Hardwick stormed into a Punt Road office "ranting and raving'' that Connors was finished at the club.
Connors said his best footy was still ahead of him and was desperate to continue playing at the top level.
"I'm only 24 and I think I'm just starting to get my body right. I feel I can play forward, back, on a wing, anywhere,'' he said.
He admitted life without football had been more difficult than he thought.
"I didn't think I'd miss is that much, but I've been out of the system for a while now and I'd definitely rather be in there than not,'' Connors said.
"I'm just hoping that somewhere down the line I get another chance. Being out of the game and missing it, you see how lucky you are to be in the system.
"I feel all right, I'm fit and healthy. I had a bit of a break and had a lot of time to think about what I wanted to do going forward.''
Connors, who is interested in enrolling in a university surveying course, has been training on a daily basis in preparation for next season. Failing any AFL interest he will set his sights on the VFL.
Richmond would not comment yesterday.

Sound advice from the Club lol although we are only getting the version of the story that Connors is giving to the media.

Serves our brains trust right TBH. They pick up this worthless dud in what, the 06 draft? He's not a good player, he had a lot of bad history prior to being drafted and many of us know some the poo he got up to while on our list. AND THE CLUB KEPT HIM ON THE ENTIRE TIME. What an absolute pack of duds we have had running our club. After all those incidents, why did they keep him instead of delisting him? He deserved to be delisted. Is it because he was on a contract he didn't deserve ;D And if so, who signed him to the that contract? This chap and Dustin should have never even met because Connors should have got the arse after his first or second season. stuff knows why he was drafted in the first place yet alone on our list for 5-6 years
And funnily enough I don't even blame him for that sleeping tablet rubbish he was sacked for. He just should have been gone long before 2012
-
Agree with Coache', now Dan can go FO we don't need losers like this interfering with players
-
I have a feeling this is going to finally end in the separation of Martin and the club. Over time if Dustin remains in communication with Connors and feels that what Conner's is saying is right then Martin will start to build up his own resentment towards people in the club and the club itself.
I can't see how you can enforce anybody to cease communication with anybody unless it is through the courts.
Richmond needs to start planning for the worst and start figuring out what we may be able to get for him in a trade at the end of next season
-
have to agree with rodger. you cant tell an adult who they can and cant socialise with. any parents here tried to tell there kids not to hang out with someone, or had their parents tell them when they were kids? you dont have to be overly headstrong to ignore this sort of decree.
the other problem is that if martin has any grievances and talks to connors about it, he is hardly going to get advice to work it through. It's quite probably connors would white ant the club and drive a wedge between martin and the RFC.
-
From what they have been saying on SEN, it is working so far. Martin has come back in good shape and got a decent enough time in the time trial.

GREAT WORK TIGERS WE NEED TO MAKE A POINT SPECIALLY WHEN MARTO SHOULD BECOME AN ELITE PLAYER WITH US WE DON'T WANT WASTED TALENT GOING MISSING :clapping :clapping
IF THEY RECKON THEY WENT TO BED AROUND 2 THEY STILL HAD AT LEAST 6 HOURS SLEEP GEE I GET HOME AT 4 IN THE MORNING ON A THURSDAY AND BACK UP TO WORK AT 8.30 FRIDAY FOR FAR LESS MONEY..... :lol :lol :lol
GO U TIGERS
-
Agree with Coach, senior Tiger people should have ditched Connors ages ago. That we didn't was folly.
Big season for Martin coming up. The gloss is off. He'd want to hope he doesn't go the same way.
-
Reckon Dusty is gawn soon
-
I said it before and say it again if we get offered a top 5 pick I'm happy to let him go.If GWS offered us pick 2 or 3 this year I would have done the deal.
-
GWS will have Tyson and O'Rourke on their books by the end of this week. If they offered up Tyson and O'Rourke next year surely the club have to have a look at it.
-
If he gets a missers soon he'll be fine.
-
dusty is a headcase
we should cash in at the end of next yr trade him to gws and clean them up
may be a brute of a player but has poo for brains and is easily mislead, not a leader he is a dung beatle,, follows poo everywhere
needs to be near his dad who will give him the traditional moari bashing occasionally to keep him in check
-
Club can get stuffed.
Who the stuff are they to tell him who he can and can't talk to?
Seriously, who made this call-Hardwick ?

We have a lot of muppets at the club

We have a lot of muppets at the club
1 less now that Connors is gone.

And maybe one more less next year ;) Seriously, Dustin may or may not be able to turn it around in a behavioural sense but I have always had doubts regarding his disappointing aerobic capacity which contributes to a poor defensive attitude. He has one year to turn it around afaic.
-
Now Connors has gone we have traded for his replacement Edwards. Do we now tell Edwards to stay away from Dusty as he may be a bad influence?
-
Seems strange to me that a 24 year old is bffs with a 20 year old.

i would look at something like that for sure, it has to definitely be 2 first rounders.

Yes that could work as long as she had a brain in her head.
-
We should have held onto Connors and traded him to GWS.
The only way I see this having a happy ending is if Connors gets picked up by another club interstate.
Dusty and Connors will remain mates regardless of whatever happens. Connors doesn't deal with authority well and would enjoy peeing of the club and spending time with Dusty.
Need someone in the playing group to take Connors position in Martins life and quick. Someone similar age and a leader. Cotchin has enough on his plate and Lids is now married. Someone like Jack Riewoldt could move in with Dusty and take Connors out of the equation.
-
woe is me article in regards to Dan, at the
end of the day was given multiple chances
and blew the lot...average player to boot. :lol
as for DM well he is not the full cut lunch, so
it doesnt surprise that he is attracted to the
likes of a Dan Connors, if it wasnt him it will
be someone else.
he has done squat personally for people to be having
kittens about if he left, trade him get what we can
especially if he has a better year than what he
showed this year.

Top post Coach. :thumbsup
Now write it again and substitute Connors name with Aaron Edwards. :clapping

Caro on 3aw now:
* For the first time since Martin was drafted, Richmond is considering a world without him. If he goes awry they wouldn't want to wait 5 years from now to trade him. Caro added Dusty hasn't endeared himself with the club over the past couple of months with his behaviour and stuff he did midway through the season. She said if Dusty doesn't change his ways he could end up another Fev. Not in terms of drugs/alcohol or anything like that but just as a talented footballer who wasted his footy career with his poor behaviour.
* Richmond was privately hoping Connors would end up in the SANFL and not Alberfeldie (suburb around Essendon) so he was no longer in communicable distance with Martin.
* Healy claimed clubs overlooked Dusty at draft time because he was a ticking timebomb (nb. says the bitter Melbourne supporter ::) )

Tigers want structure for Dustin Martin
Mark Stevens on the Gold Coast
From: Herald Sun
November 23, 2012 9:39AM
RICHMOND coach Damien Hardwick has no problem with young superstar Dustin Martin picking his own friends, but admits he needs to choose carefully.
Dustin Martin
"We can't say who to hang with and who not to,'' Hardwick said yesterday. "The situation is, if you put yourself with good people, generally good things happen.
"He's a guy we think has got an enormous future with this footy club and we just want him to surround himself with the best people possible.''
Hardwick, on the Gold Coast for last night's draft, was responding to a Herald Sun interview with sacked Tiger Daniel Connors.
Connors conceded the Tigers had told him to stay away from Martin.
Hardwick stressed the lifestyle structure of being involved with an elite sporting club helped Martin.
"We've spoken to him in the off-season about trying to structure up his off-field ... there's a number of players in the same boat,'' Hardwick said.

Getting sick of these stories and the 'blow by blow' accounts given out by the club. Fix him or pee him off.......for a good price of course.
