Title: How should we manage our ruck stocks?

Rotation policy to creep into footy

CRICKET Australia copped heat for its controversial rotation policy, but is this the year it really takes off in the AFL? High performance managers and conditioning coaches are booming right now, with several poached from rival clubs at the end of last season. Couple that with the substitute rule, more irrelevant matches than ever before and the likelihood of an interchange cap in 2014 and the rotation policy is seemingly on an upward trend. A glance at the average age of rookie draftees shows clubs now have replacements on their mind – expect Ben Hudson to pull on the black and white stripes when Darren Jolly gets sore and perhaps the same for Orren Stephenson at Richmond should big Ivan Maric need a spell.

How we manage Ivan this year is going to be very important so he's at or near his best right through the season rather than waiting for him to get sore in the second half of the year and risk injury. As terrific as he was he was forced to carry too much of the ruck workload without any half-decent back-up to help him out.

Reckon how Vickery comes up is an important part of the equation as well

If he can offer some relief during games say 5-10 mins a qtr then that will go a fair way easing the burden

The word from the Crows is that Gus's aerobic fitness has improved dramatically since leaving the amateur fitness regime at the RFC. The only problem is that preliminary testing has revealed that he is using this increased fitness to evade even more Ruck contests and contested marking situations  :-[

I hope Gus does ok for them for gus's sake. However for us he wasnt much chop.He was one of those players a bit like Grigg ,who always seemd detached from the game whilst it was being played.Although grigg as pointed out by many here ,is very effective in the part he plays

Was christened after Oreo cookies apparently. His parents went over to America in the 60s and attended Woodstock where they fell in love with Oreo cookies.

They were bad spellers like me and accidentally added an extra r and accidentally put in an n instead of o. It was too late when they realised so they took Orren and ran with it IMO.

needs to play at least 10 minutes a quarter in the ruck. thats a third of the game. as such when forward he needs to play out of a pocket and we play a third tall as a permanent chf.

we need to learn from the better sides. the better sides do not lose structure. at richmond it seems we are happy to have riewoldt instead of being double teamed all the time we are prepared to have him triple teamed when the only other tall we have forward goes into the ruck. it really is a joke.
we need a chf and if vickery is the chf we need a stuff who can spend 10 minutes a quarter in the ruck.

Griff / vickery / jack, on paper is an imposingly tall forward line.

2 ruck size players.

For mine vickery is a natural for the forward pocket / 2nd ruck role. Given the way the rules of the game has/are changing I don't see many teams carrying two pure ruck man.
