Title: Seven AFL clubs vulnerable on illicit drugs (Age)
Post by: one-eyed on February 11, 2013, 03:27:13 AM
AT LEAST seven AFL clubs were named in a confidential briefing to competition chiefs by the Australian Crime Commission as being vulnerable to illicit drugs.
...

At least seven and as many as nine AFL clubs have been found by the ACC to be vulnerable to illicit drug activity and therefore vulnerable to organised crime activity.

One of those clubs is Collingwood, whose chief, Gary Pert, alerted the competition to a ''volcanic'' drug problem in the game late last year.

Apart from Essendon, every other AFL club was contacted by Fairfax Media on Sunday and confirmed they had been instructed to attend individual meetings with the AFL in coming weeks, but none has been informed about a player being investigated for drug cheating.

It is understood the club involved will be informed by the ACC or the ASADA as early as Monday.

Has anyone from the club made any announcements to say that we are in the clear?

Seriously, what criteria could you possibly use to determine if a club is "vulnerable" or not to illicit drug activity and/or organised crime activity?

I would have thought that every single club was vulnerable.  What would make you vulnerable?

Is your sport high profile with a large following?  Tick.
Do you have a large group of young adults involved at the elite level?  Tick.
Do you have a large group of young adults who socialise with their peers outside of sport?  Tick.
Do you allow betting on your sport?  Tick.

Yeah, that would narrow it down to 7 or 9.   :wallywink

having a player associate with bikies could make a club vulnerable to organised crime activities  ;)

Might be seven clubs. May even be nine. Or could be eight. It might even be some other arbitrary number like eleventeen. This may or may not even be true. I present you journalism at its finest.

ASADA - illicit drugs found within in an "in competition" test = suspension

Apparently they've found birth control pills in Shortsteppell's purse

Doesn't look good for Essendank

My point, who cares why suspend them. Let them do drugs if they want its their life, as long as they aren't messing with the game by using performance enhancers
