Saturday 16th March v Western Bulldogs @ Visy Park
-
2pm
-
FFs I don't want to play them
-
Why are we playing at Visy Park? Why not at Craigeburn where North and Hawthorn are playing? They should play in Ballarat.
-
Hope Juliar is there. :wub :shh

Hope Juliar is there. :wub :shh
:lol
She said she was going but will it be really her that's going?
I also heard she's sailing there after her round the world solo voyage.
I'd expect her to line up at full forward..... Well that's what she said anyway.
-
Venue ok, something different
Not sure on the team, wouldve preferred:
A.) A team who were not playing in the first few rounds
B.) A less scrappy team who knows their season isn't over before it starts and would protect its own players like geelong.
-
It will be good in a couple of years when we can play these games at fortress punt rd
-
Vital must win game......no excuses
-
Vital must win game......no excuses
I'd go further.
THE most important game in the history of the Richmond Football Club! An absolute MUST win.
Now that's how you do it Chuckie! ;D
-
We should beat the Western Bulldogs by more than 10 goals.
Anything less is disappointing.
We need to learn to "put teams away"!!!

Are these final practice matches being televised or on the radio?
Certainly not on the tellie
168 hours of footy per week on Fox yet can't quite fit in a single match outside the grand final. Would have been tough to fit but I think they could have made it work by re-shuffling the 28th replay of each NAB Cup game.
-
McCartney said the Dogs would complete their pre-season by assembling a near-full strength side for this weekend's practice match against Richmond.
As many as a dozen experienced players may be brought in for the Dogs' final hitout, with captain Matthew Boyd, Ryan Griffen, Robert Murphy, Daniel Giansiracusa, Shaun Higgins, Daniel Cross and Dale Morris among the missing against Fremantle.
Adam Cooney, who did, continued his solid pre-season form collecting 15 touches (six contested) and kicking a goal.
McCartney said Tom Williams and Jake Stringer would be the only two Dogs not available for the Richmond game.

They could have had Buddy

Would have to be a wide lap

Ah Julia and KFC,, a match made in the west. 2 small breasts, 2 large thighs all wrapped in a red box..
Getting sick of practice matches. The result is irrelevant. Why would we lay it all out there for Carlscum to see.
We'll lose by 10 goals

Play the reserves side, rest the best 22 and play and intra next week

Agree. Play a weakened side. Keep top players fresh for a long season. Chance for youngsters to shine

They say he was "rested" but you've got to wonder. "Rested" 2 weeks in a row?
Agree has to play this week, doesn't play shouldn't play round 1
Seriously we need to play our best 22 this week no matter who the opposition is
Maybe "rested" is 2013's "2 weeks" ;D
-
Hoping Todd Elton gets a run this week. I would put him on the wing like we did with Richo. I think he will excel there! Will need to get his fitness levels up though to cope.

Never trust a Vegan who pimps fried Chicken.
Back on topic I think this will be an interesting game. I think Dimma will be focused more on KPI's and the execution of skills rather than the end result. I think the Doggies however will look at this game as an opportunity to boost the confidence of its players going into R1 after the recent hammering they received. So I think it will be a tale of two cities. We will obviously go in as favorites, so this will be a really good test on how well we perform when being the Hunted rather than the Hunter ala previous poor performances against Gold Coast.

No Hackson? :birthday :clapping
No Kingy either.
You would reckon the 22 for round 1 will come from this squad so maybe Jacko has been forced out by youngsters and newbies coming through.
Strong line-up btw. The most important thing about this weekend is to get through with no injuries (touchwood :pray).

Possibly injured or at least carrying a niggle.
Could be being rested or could have been dropped and bypassed by youngsters and newbies.
Only have to have seen his preseason games to know why.
Could be being rested or has he picked a niggle? He had just come back from injury.
-
Griffith Rance Morris
Petterd Chaplin Batchelor
Grigg Tuck Houli
Newman McGuane White
Nahas Riewoldt Vickery
Stephenson Martin Edwards
I: Ellis, Conca, Lonergan, Vlastuin, Arnot
Reserves: Maric, Deledio, Cotchin.
No need to play the reserves into form and it only risks their injury.

I know we don't want any of our stars copping an injury in the last practice match but given it is our last practice match I don't see us putting a B-side out there even if it is against the poor doggies.
-
Not really surprising about Knights. He's not in our best 22. Was signed for minimum wage as a back-up player.

Agree, I think I might go now that it's a full strength side and watch a 150 point smackdown as well as search for some of Juddy's thrown out paper bags in the bin. May have left a few notes in there. :shh

Agree
Will play our strongest side and it is also about getting the right number of minutes (as deemed by the fitness blokes) into players. Cotch, Lids & Maric all didn't play in Wang so they'll want to get their match conditioning right
So the big 3 will play :clapping

I'd rather us struggle to win to keep any big heads deflated and focused for R1.

I'm assuming the big heads potentially be the players after a big win? I would be concerned too. As for us we know what the club has to do. Hopefully the blues win this week and. Have a few injuries going into rd 1 with a premiership hangover lol :rollin

Although it won't hurt to keep a few on here under double wraps either! Having said that, if we struggle badly or even lose, watch the sky for feathers!! ;D

That's bloody harsh. Joel is the glue guy on defence. Derickx is more like Pittman. Big guy, late draft pick, keep him on for 3 years hoping he may actually get a game then get rid of him for peanuts. At least lets hope he's gone after his third year. :whistle
-
So to confirm, there are no subs today. There's a 6 man bench with no cap on rotations.
First score to the Dogs. A point.
-
What a joke that there's no stream. Poor effort RFC
-
We kick out and the Bulldogs force it back into their 50 for a throw in. The boys run it out of defence - Newman to Houli to Nahas. Edwards on the wing now. Bringing the ball in board. Tuck kicks inside 50 and gets a throw in.
Bulldogs run it out through Goodes and get a throw in at the Richmond Half forward line. Great smother by Chaplin gets the ball back and the boys settle it down on the far wing. Bulldogs get it back and now build from defence.
Bulldogs get the first goal of the game through Mitch Wallis after a long kick in from just outside the 50.

Bulldogs go back in to attack threw Murphy after the bounce. They force a throw in from that.
Only a few minutes in but Bulldogs controlling the tempo so far.
Tiges run it out in numbers. Grigg goes long to the wing before the Bulldogs intercept. Long to Delhauss , long to Jones but Chaplin spoils.
-
Free kick to the Tiges 20 out from the Bulldogs goal. Lids runs it out, to Rance, to Nahas on the wing, Addison wins the contest. Morris picks up the crumbs, to Vlastuin back to Morris and we win a free kick, 70 out from goal.
Morro goes in short to Cotch. He finds Ivan, great kick, 40 out from goal.
Ivan kicks at goal.....goal. :gotigers

Sounds like we are playing crap. Lucky they are missing their shots.
We muddle around with the free kick and the Bulldogs intercept and win a free kick for too high, 25 out directly infront. Dickson to kick.
...it gets touched by the man on the mark. Kick in from Griffiths, goes to about 60 but Bulldogs mark, go long to the square and the Tiges rush it through.

Great exit out of the defensive 50 sets Lids free on the wing and he sets up Jack brilliantly on a backwards lead, 50 metre pin point kick. Jack from 20 out on the 45, he goals. :gotigers

It's funny how we can dominate games yet not kick goals yet today it's been all Dogs and we're 2 goals out of 2 entries going forward.

Hopefully now we've woken up.
Back from the tap out, Maric to Dusty to Shedsy, he dinks it over the top to Vickery. He marks on a slight angle, 30 out. he misses

And the rain has arrived here at Princes Park (shouldn't advertise non-RFC sponsors RFCO ;) )
From the bounce we end up on the wing on the broadcast side. Throw in, Shedsy roves with a great no look handpass to Grigg, he bombs long, Jack cant mark, and the Bulldogs kick it long and earn a throw in, 60 out from Tiges goal.
Bit of nothing has the ball up now on the Bulldogs forward 50, throw i from the boundary.
Libba cant hit Murphy on the kick and we have another throw in.
Grigg gets it from Vlastuin, Grigg goes long to 50 and Jack flies but cant take the mark. Bulldogs collect and go long Ivan marks it...but apparently there was a Bulldogs free kick there
Jones takes it, goes long and it gets punched out. Throw in at Bulldogs forward 60 mark
And theyve plucked a free kick in the goal square, when the ball was 60 out from goal. Griffiths free kick goes to Cordy. He kicks from 5 metres out on a tight angle and goals.

We got a free kick! Bronx cheers. Vlastuin goes deep into the 50 from the square and we get a free for in danger.
Conca on a tighter than 45 angle, 45 out. He kicks it straight but couldnt get the distance held up in the wind.
So the Dogs had the breeze that quarter.

This is not a great game of footy.
its just hovering around the wing with a lot of scrappy kicks.
Bulldogs playing a spare man in defence is killing any forward attack we are making. Theyve put Roughead i the hole infront of Riewoldt.
Geez I'm hoping it's a combo of the wet windy conditions, us experimenting and us just going through the motions :-\.

The Dogs are clearly working harder if it's 7 on 2 in our forward line.
Vickery taps down to Riewoldt and they award another head into the legs free kick. Cotch takes it from 20 out on a 45 angle, goes to snap the goal and misses.

From BF:
The defence has been under siege all day. Ellis, rance, Chaplin and houli have been good. Morris has been in everything but hasn't had a good day. Petterd and Griffiths need to lift.
Newman, conca and vlastuin have had about 7 touches between them. Deledio has had an impact but needs to do more, as has cotch. Tuck, Maric and Martin have been good.
Jack hasn't had a chance all day constantly being double teamed. Vickers has been awful. White was lively early but faded.edwards and nahas have done a couple of good things

Vickery spilled 2 marks inside 50 that any decent key forward should be taking. Ryan Griffen is a better mark on a lead than Vickery
-
Shane Edwards kicked the missing goal.

Wet and windy conditions don't suit 200cm tall forwards. If we taking this game seriously (which we clearly aren't) you'd use Vickery only as a ruck or take him off altogether and play a smaller mobile forward line around Jack who can weave and crumb goals as well take marks.

Batchelor and Vickery shouldnt play R1. They havent played well in the preseason maybe Batch had 1 decent game. From that poo paper
RICHMOND 148 (92) def WESTERN BULLDOGS 12.11 (83) at Visy Park
A BURST of last-quarter domination from Tigers rookie Sam Lonergan ignited Richmond to a nine-point win against the Western Bulldogs in a hotly contested match at Visy Park today.
Both sides fielded near full-strength sides as a proper tune-up for Round 1, and the Dogs controlled most of the match before Lonergan separated the sides.
The former Bomber won a pair of centre clearances and kicked an important goal as he fights to win a place on Richmond's senior list.
Ruckman Ivan Maric was best-afield, booting three goals and impressing around the ground, while Shane Edwards, Shane Tuck and Shaun Grigg relished the winter-like conditions.
Former Docker Nick Lower took another step towards sewing up a Round 1 place for the Western Bulldogs, shutting down superstar and Richmond captain Trent Cotchin.
Lower has excelled as a tagger this pre-season, also taking the honours against Sam Mitchell.
A Jason Tutt goal cut the gap to just three points in the final term, before Jack Riewoldt found the sticks to secure victory.
Earlier, the Dogs raced to a four-goal lead as Adam Cooney and Mitch Wallis got busy.
Cooney booted a last-quarter goal when Nathan Hrovat, the first-round draft pick who the Dogs debuted today, spotted him in attack.
Hrovat and Tom Liberatore impressed in the final quarter with their inside midfield grunt.
Jordan Roughead again showed signs his move to defence is set to pay off, while a dazzling interception from Luke Dahlhaus set up a Daniel Giansiracusa goal in the third quarter as the Dogs looked set to run away with the match.
But the Tigers held firm until the last change before making their move, with goals to Maric and Brett Deledio to start the last quarter.
Brett Goodes capped his incredible summer with another standout performance from halfback and looks certain to make his AFL debut in Round 1 at the age of 29.

Very poor standard.
Overall they would have to improve immensely in order to be the 'Finals Contender' so proclaimed by players and officials

Got back not to long ago, has been forever since I've been there
Its hard for me to say how we went today cos part of me says wet, windy crap conditions and we played very average
Or I could say we went through the motions: a, to avoid injury and avoid showcasing to the dogs what we will play like in rd 2 or b. To avoid mick and stix filming us on their cam corders from the smorgon scoreboard.
Either way I went with the attitude "its only a praccy game" but was quickly drawn into the game as longtime RFC friends ::) Matt Stevic and Mc inery?(Balding number 3 umpire) were at their absolute finest anti- richmond imo.
Anyway
Martin, lids, eevan were good.
Was happy enough with tuck, griigga and co
White, well not going to bag him just going to say I like his heart, pace and determination but I may leave him out of rd 1 team, with an opportunity. To rejoin the team when he improves his decision making.
Was a dog of a day, :shh but great to sit down, chill and watch a game of footy at a boutique stadium.

Reckon Vlaustin, White & Petterd will play.
Would play McGuane ahead of Vickery
Not sure about Nahas, would have King in ahead of him
Have to say concerned as to how this stupid new rule re sliding into blokes legs is going to effect the likes of Morris. Morris sole focus is the ball and he dives towards it bulldog bloke comes in makes no attempt to get the ball but gets the free because Morris brushes his leg but at the same time Morris gets a knee to the scone. How is that fair? Not the first time it's happened this pre-season, as I said stupid rule
Oh and umpire No. 3 was Steve McBurney
-
Nahas might be called up to keep Yarran honest. Not betting on it, but the coaches might watch how Green sorted out Yarran in the NAB GF.

Low key prep and keep your eyes on the prize boys, a round 1 win. :thumbsup

Cotch was quiet
Rougheads a gun now
Training the house down
All a crock of poo
I care little, aside from injuries, about anything that happens between dec-mar.
I also don't buy into the Blues efforts last night. Again means jack
I will say though that Vickery has the next month to show why he wants to be a tiger or he can dark off
Has this bloke got any balls? We will soon find out
White to play on gartlett or not play it all.

The ground was in apparently horrible condition.
Bout time we got a better oval and facilities than the mob.

Dusty, old wooden seats too.
Why did they stop playing AFL matches there?
If they actually took care of it and upgraded the stands, like Geelong, Carlton would play matches there against interstate teams.
Just a waste of a ground. I believe that if Geelong gets a home ground advantage in Melbourne, why can't anyone else?
In my view, the less home matches they receive at the MCG the better chance we get of playing at the MCG and not Etihad Stadium home or away matches.

Bout time we took the NAB a bit more seriously, then we could of played on a better ground!

There are hundreds of better suburban grounds than that poo-heap. We are very lucky to come through the game unscathed. Msg to RFC: I (and the 2 people I went with) will never...ever set foot there again.
-
I reckon they stopped playing games at Princess park because the cost of getting the ground to standard would be huge, but more importantly I think, the surrounding residents have an army of QCs and businessmen to draw on for help to block anything they dont like, which sealed Princess parks fate
-
We should play our practices matches at Punt Road I believe!

abosulutely, the only problem with i can see is crowd capacity. If we had practice matches there we'd get 20,000 and i'm not Punt Rd would cope with it.

How did Griff go, scored well in the supercoach points...

Sorry bud, was last second decision. Went with the missus. Nearly left as soon as I got there. What a crap heap. :lol Dogs were looking for a win to start the season. :whistle :shh

griff was there and played..
I didnt think he did anything of note.

what about the boundarys on the wings being 20 metres in from the fence. ::) ::)
Made the game interesting with plenty of throw ins and out of bounce on fulls

and Bickery does neither against either
In 2011 he did; true nothing last year due to his shoulders.
Getting a bit tired if his shoulders being blamed. Maybe he's a sissy
That's harsh. I think Vickery is the only player to have ever played sore. Give him a slap on the arse and get off his back man....
-
Forget about the stand of the ammenities the ground surface wasnt up to scratch either
Bloody sand flying up as blokes ran through the centre and around the 50m arcs - terrible
Thought Griff looked lost yesterday, Liam Jones (who's kicking isn't up to VFL standard let only AFL) beat him far too easily in alot of contests IMHO

At times (early) he stood a bit off his man but then realised that in the conditions he had to play close (due to the shifting ground as no-one was getting a leap at the ball). He improved as the game went on and Jones was after all goal-less. He also spent time on Cordy who only kicked one goal due to an errant stuff.
BTW I just realised that in my 'wash-up' I neglected to mention Edwards who was 'freakish' at times yesterday and his disposal was elite. I think he and Dusty will be very destructive this year through the middle and more importantly whilst resting in the forward line.

Was sitting in what i think was the Robert heatley stand yesterday and as i climbed the steps my foot sank several inches into the floor. And that eyesore of an admin building they have constructed obscures the whole pocket on that side of the ground from at least a third of the stand.
verdict..bulldoze it and start again

Heatley stand is gone, if you are talking about the old timber stand that was near where the tigers ran out that is the Gardiner Stand. Should be condemned
Ruanaidh: I know Jones was goal less but with his kicking that's no great surprise ;D

From the Hun....
RICHMOND coach Damien Hardwick came away from yesterday's nine-point win over the Western Bulldogs confident his team was in great shape for its Round 1 showdown against Carlton.
The Tigers have dropped only one game in the pre-season and have almost a full list to chose from for the season opener on Thursday week.
Against the Dogs they came from 18 points down in the third quarter to kick seven of the last nine goals in scrappy conditions at Visy Park, and did so with subdued performances from key players Trent Cotchin (18 disposals), Jack Riewoldt (one goal and six disposals), Dustin Martin and Chris Newman (10 possessions each).
''It was a tough old game really, and the conditions weren't really great, but to walk away at the end of the NAB Cup campaign with four wins and one loss was a reasonable result for us,'' Hardwick said.
Jake King and Daniel Jackson, who were rested yesterday, are both expected to be available for the Round 1 match against the Blues.
Chris Knights and Dylan Grimes, who have had injury-interrupted pre-seasons, are expected to get at least a half in Coburg's VFL match against Weribee on Sunday.
Nathan Foley remains at least a month away from playing.
The Tigers had six multiple goalkickers, led by ruckman Ivan Maric, with Luke McGuane (two goals) presenting as a third marking forward.
''He was good, kicked a couple of goals,'' Hardwick said. ''He does compete, Luke, that's the one thing we love about him.''
The Bulldogs were disappointed they could not finish off the march, but would be encouraged by knowing about a half a dozen new faces could come into the team that finished the 2012 season, with Brett Goodes, Jason Johannisen, Nick Lower and Tom Young among those with strong cases for inclusion.
Lower did exceptionally well nullifying Cotchin, restricting him to just six disposals in the first half and frustrating the Tigers skipper throughout.
Assistant coach Brett Montgomery was buoyed that experienced core played well, but several recruits had played well.
''At the selection table ... we've got plenty to choose from and there were at least 12 or 13 weeks last year where that wasn't the case and we were just putting whatever we had out there,'' Montgomery said.
Adam Cooney (24 touches) showed glimpses of the explosive best that was a feature of his glory days, Robert Murphy was damaging alternating between half forward and half back and Daniel Giansiracusa (two goals) was a constant threat.
Ryan Griffen collected 30 possessions and Dale Morris totally outplayed Riewoldt.
Montgomery said the club was hopeful Shaun Higgins, Easton Wood and possibly Tom Williams would be available for the Round 1 match against Brisbane Lions at Etihad Stadium, although the Dogs were conscious of not including several underdone players in the 22.
Higgins and Wood are likely to play at VFL level next weekend.
Hardwick also backed the AFL's new sliding rules after the match.
''Overall I think the rule is great, I really like it. 54 free kicks today is a lot of free kicks. It's really hard for the umpires to administer. Is it forceful contact or is it (just) contact .... wet conditions is tough. I think the overriding concept is good.
''There's a couple though on a wet day where a guy slides to get the ball and a player falls over the top. They're probably the ones where we have to wait and see (how the rule is interpreted).''

whilst sitting in the Gardener stand we compared the facilities of all AFL clubs and although i havent been in the other clubs facilities other than the western bulldogs, from purely a visual aspect our facilities appear better than all others except maybe the hawks out Mulgrave way.The North and carlton ones neither blend into the surrounds nor really stamp them as belonging to the club. The bulldogs ones appear at first glance to be poorly built.Ours on the other hand is visually stunning. The thousands of cars using Punt road every day know they passing the RFC.
Well done RFC

Was at Vi$y 2 years ago when we played Adelaide.
That day was sunny and bright and the glare off the windows at the Heatley Stand even sitting in the shade of the Legends stand was woeful.
Awful ground for watching footy.
In 2010 we played Collingwood on a cloudy day and viewing footy there was easier bar the result. ;D
