Title: Another hoodoo gets ticked off
Post by: mightytiges on March 29, 2013, 04:09:57 AM
Carlton round 1 ..... tick!

I know we almost totally blew it running out of legs in the last qtr but in the end we didn't. We still won! That wouldn't been a game we would've painfully thrown away last year. Hopefully it's that sort of win where you gain belief you can actually do it by getting across the line. It worked in 1980 and 1995 when we just hung on by less than kick in round 1 after leading by a few goals at 3/4 time in both games. Hopefully it also puts paid to the mental demons when playing the bluebaggers and builds confidence and a winning mentality for the rest of the season.

I'm feeling more confident after that, so can only imagine the impact a win in Round 1 against the scum has on the players!

In a week's time no one will remember we blew the lead. Just like everyone forgot that n0rf choked to poo sides last year and copped a 100+ point belting. We got the 4 points and we've got 21 games left to make up 12-13'ish wins.

We won the game in the second quarter and poor conversion in the first stopped it from being over early. I think it will be most important to the players. They know they can do it now. Pressure for spots is going to be huge.

Next 5 weeks are hoodoos.
St Kilda at the G last beat them there 2000.
Dogs last beat them at Etihad 2005.
Collingwood have not beaten since 2007.
Freo have never beaten a Ross Lyon coached side.
Geelong have not beaten them at the G since 1999 and overall since 2006.

One week at a time boys. :thumbsup
