The Turtle Play,
Against Carlton with @33points ahead we decide to shut down and play for the win. Nearly cost us too. Until we get this mentality out of our game we will not reach our potential. We were vvvvlucky not to lose round 1 game, I would rather keep on and beat Carlton by 60 and risk losing instead of going back into our shell.
I am happy to take advice from more enlightened ones however it makes me sick when we shut down like that and try to protect a lead.
With 2 minutes to go that is a different matter but not at the start of the last 1/4.
Apart from that am loving the season to date.

Dont think we "shut down" at all in round 1
Think it was simply a case that we ran out of legs, like alot of sides have in the first 2 weeks

That, and Carlton stopped playing defensively. They went all out attack, which we weren't prepared for.

Yes agree totally. The boys were stuffed.
We should've been further in front though, missed some sitters.
But I'm still celebrating beating the cheating scum. :birthday

yep - agree
And I reckon the umpires not bouncing the ball around the ground now has had impact too, players no longer get that little break anymore at stoppages seems to be resulting in alot more fatigue late in the game

we dont shut down we just keep letting teams always get back at us
we dont have the killer instinct and until we do we will always just be average
winning games like v the dogs this week and winning well is our next challenge
if we lose this game we have not improved one bit

We play at a very fast pace. Some people are saying that we can only play at that pace. We do need to play learn how to slow things down at times. I agree we need to learn how to bury teams. Once we can bury teams we will be a top four side.

Carlton switched their game plan and started playing high-risk footy which paid off. The coach himself admitted this on Fox Footy. We simply did not adjust to the change quick enough, an area we can improve in.
Something else I read which was more encouraging was that we are traveling at only 65% (I think it was McGuane who said it) Cant wait for Chappy to hit his straps and for Axel to come back into the side, too!
And then, there's Vlas!!
Exciting season ahead and I cant wait for this weekends game.

Well lets see how we pan out this week. I was pretty pleased with our form against St Kilda. Whether we win this week or not is no indication of improvement, We have improved already, I think if we win this week the following will be a huge huge one against the Pies.
Hopefully McGuanes form continues, he is turning into a real asset, I must say I have knocked him for years and he is back in my face now, well done Luke.

Exactly, it was high risk and they got caught out, the result was a shot on goal for us and they lost even though we just got a point, it didn't matter. It is unsustainable and desperate, we were better.

Last year we got trolled for playing well and losing. This year we are getting trolled for playing poorly and winning. If improvement is measured by your poor performances then we have improved by leaps and bounds. There is only upside in this case.
Screw what anyone says. This is a competition and the idea is to win games. I'll take a scrappy win over an 'honourable loss' any day.
Carlton and n0rf are 0-2. You don't get points for falling just short, and at the end of the day they still need to win ~13 of their next 20 games. Eat poo.

Yep and I'll be barracking hard for the Swans and the Cats this weekend :cheers

3 yrs ago we were getting smashed as often as not
2 yrs ago we were still getting touched up every now and then
1 year ago we weren't winning the tight games
Currently we are winning the tight games
Som ppl just aren't satisfied

Cop out, both teams had to put up with it
