FOOTBALLERS can cop a bad rap, often cast as meatheads good for nothing other than kicking a football. But how well do we really know our players?

With aspiring lawyers, psychologists, property developers, coaches, civil engineers and even a budding Prime Minister among the competition's playing fraternity, have we been selling our heroes short?

Matt Windley gets the lowdown to help determine who is the smartest player at your club?

RICHMOND

1. DANIEL JACKSON
“He thinks he’s a politician already. He’ll be on a quest to save somebody or some cause after footy, who knows he might even run for Prime Minister. The guy loves getting involved in issues.’’

2. TROY CHAPLIN
“He’s very footy smart, could go in to coaching or stay in the industry in some capacity at the very least. He shows amazing leadership and attention to detail. He drives others as well and has a great ability to discipline the group when it needs to be done. He’s very impressive.’’

3. TYRONE VICKERY
“He’s doing some ridiculous degree of some sort, a very smart man. He’s going to do really well after footy I would have thought. He talks like an intellect, slows his words down and when he wants to he knows how to make you feel really low, make you feel really stupid. But he’s a ripping kid.’’
