Title: Time to have another look at Astbury
Post by: crackertiger on May 21, 2013, 08:39:27 PM: With Grimes now out for 8 weeks we really need another tall defender option. I say it should be Astbury and he should come in this week. Worst case if he fails would be to send him forward and Luke McGuane down back. Essendon always dominate us in the air Astbury has good body strength.

What do people think?

Play 2 ruckmen and have the resting ruckman play loose in defence. Plugs the hole and forces most contests into a 2 on 1 with our tallest player. Then we only need to consider another tall defender when we play a side that has a tall forward line (West Coast next week for example).

Post by: Coach on May 22, 2013, 12:32:06 PM: Sitting in the hole isn't going to be a fun rest for the injured Maric or Stephenson who would struggle in the role. Usually you want your loose man to provide run and carry as well as helping out the back six....eg Picky Reterd. ;D

That haircut is very smart. You know we might be able to trade him to Melbourne for a player who has tattoos and doesn't belong. :shh

:lol Just saying he looks like he was a Melbourne fan and he might enjoy it there. Smart haircut, collared shirt underneath his Dees jersey sitting in the MCC. I'll buy him a monocle as a going away gift if he did go to the Dees. ;D
