Title: Xbox One
Post by: Yeahright on May 24, 2013, 12:24:31 AM
Any avid gamers here? Saw a little of the release and really not impressed. All Sony have to do is add a cool design and they'll already be ahead IMO and have my money

Gamerholic here. Danog is one too but is a Dota nerd so he doesn't count.

Micro$oft forgetting that it's a gaming console and are trying to get even grannies involved with crap features. Kotaku reported the other day that many of the features might only be for US which makes it worse. From what has been released it looks slightly less powered than the PS4 and while consoles are generally optimised so well that it doesn't matter the 3 operating systems could be a drainer. Maybe that's why they're chucking in 8GB DDR3? They've reported that no online connection required but some are saying that's misinformation.

While Sony haven't said if the PS4 will require a connection or be able to play or a requirement to pay for a key to play pre owned, so far the system is coming out on top. I'll no doubt buy both though like I do currently as well as keep my beastly PC rig up to date  ;D

Will the mofos still be releasing games on 360? Considering my house burned down I don't want to stuff out $$ for the Xbox one

There will be some things released on current and next gen.

Different tech so current games won't be compatible on the new consoles. Same goes with peripherals.

Reckon new consoles will be cheaper or there abouts than previous gens. PS3 launched at $999 AUD but they won't be doing that again. There are reports there will be different XB1 versions on launch and the standard version will come in at $499 USD.

Can't wait for E3 to finally see the new tech in action!

I didn't think the ps4 was released yet how do you know its less powered? I also heard it had to be connected online 24/7 (well when its on that is).
Yeah I'll probably end up with both but which one gets my hard earned and which one waits until its half the price is left all up to Sony.
Can't stand playing games on PC, dunno why

This is what is known so far http://au.ign.com/wikis/xbox-one/PS4_vs._Xbox_One_vs._Wii_U_Comparison_Chart

Sony let on even less than MS did at their unveiling. We'll know the full deal when E3 comes around I reckon.

Micro$oft stated that the XB1 will not be 'always online' but some people has stated that is false as they have read other places (I think from leaks, so take it with a grain of salt at the moment) that you need to connect once every 24 hours, and you will need a connection to verify games when you first install them but can later play them off line (CD-KEY).

PC gaming is a dying form still :( I tend to look up what a game's leading platform is and get it on that. Except first person games which I typically get on PC, unless it's a crappy port (which is 90% of the time  >:(). Currently trying to determine whether or not the price to upgrade my GTX 680 to the new 780 is justifiable at the moment lol.

Cheers for that link  :thumbsup

Very confusing about the online. Don't like how the connect always has to be plugged in (someone told me that so don't know if true) would be a hassle as I have Kinect but never use it. Just more expenses for stuff I don't want. Which brings on paying to play games you borrow  :banghead. There's not many games I didn't borrow from a friend to try first then buy.

Only PC games I play are Sims...
You might get a laugh out of this if you haven't seen it... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2F3ZWEEbF4
Downloaded it on steam and it is that shocking that it's fun for a short time

I'm the same with kinect lol. I bought it because I just HAD to have the Star Wars game... Never played it. Still sitting there. And the only use my kinect has ever got was when I used it to call plays on Madden 13 because it's easier than trying to sift through the menus. But the new one comes with kinect and shouldn't be a big deal just to have it plugged in. It's not like it's an added expense.

I still haven't tried Surgeon Sim but have watched a few of those videos  :lol seems to be a hit on Steam.

I love PC gaming but it can get annoying with the constant need to upgrade compared to consoles where you buy it once and you're set. I'm a bit obsessive in that I tend to fret if I don't have the latest of stuff. My desktop rig is a GTX680, i5-2500k (stock clock even though it's mounted with a DH-14  :lol), 8GB DDR3 ripjaws, with a 1TB cav black HDD and Liteon 64GB SSD for cache/rapid share. This computer does nothing except for game (connected up with Razor Imperator and Black Widow 2 mouse/keyboard and Gamecom780 7.1 surround headset). At the moment I'm stressing about what to do with the graphics card. The new GTX 780 is $839 (Gigabyte version) and the 3GB VRAM is mouth watering enough. But it's probably only a 150% upgrade on my GTX680. The GTX690 still outperforms the 780 but it's one card of 2x 680 cores and older tech (but still on the 28nm die) and retails at $1100. Then there is the GTX Titan which is an absolute beast but comes in at $1300 and I wonder if spending $839 on a single step upgrade it would be better going the whole way and just chipping in a bit more for the Titan. And thus... Why PC gaming isn't attractive to a lot of people as it once was. Though if your computer can handle it there still a number of games that are just amazing amazing on PC compared to their console versions.

Crysis 3
Farcry 3
Metro 2033 (still haven't tried Last Night 1. I'm chicken 2. Apparently bringing a lot of high end rigs to their knees)
Bioshock Infinite
Sleeping Dogs
Battlefield 3
The Witcher 2
Skyrim

I've managed to play all of these on the highest settings and well worth it.

Crap time for gaming though since there isn't much coming out as they're waiting for the new consoles. I think The Last of Us is the only thing worth looking forward to on the PS3 and not sure about the 360 at the moment. I guess that gives me a chance to sink another 120hours into another Mass Effect 1, 2 and 3 play through  ;D

Speaking of kinect and leaving it plugged in, I just remembered that NBA 2k13 will penalise you if you swear at the game and it hear you  :lol Dad was around a few weeks ago and he was talking to my missus while I was playing. It heard him swearing and I got pinged for it. Wasn't happy  :lol

I just imagine it breaking and having another thing to replace just to keep the thing running.
Just go all out ;)
Yeah I'm pretty much waiting for Fifa 14 to come out and looking forward to the NBA Live games to be back, preferred them over the 2k games when it came to gameplay. Otherwise I'll probably sift through the cheapo bin at EB. So I'm in for a bit of a wait. You know if they'll release it on the ps3 and 360 as well?

:lol Didn't know that about the kinect thats funny. Didn't bother with 2k13 as my player only started getting good in 12  :lol

2k dropped their other titles to concentrate on NBA, I guess to fill EA's NBA and IMO it paid off. 2k13 is unreal. But after all this time out I bet EA's next NBA Live should rock  :cheers

I think both Fifa and NHL 14 are the only two coming out before the next gen since Madden just released an anniversary edition.

What do you play Fifa on? I typically get them on Playstation so I can get smashed by my wog in laws.

Grabbed Metro Last Light for 360 on the weekend because I'm a pussy and can play it in the lounge room with the lights on.

And just because I'm going to now hijack this thread for all things gaming:

http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=23453 PCCG selling a system where nearly $3k of it is the graphics cards lol. It's overkill and unnecessary but some nuffies will buy it lol.

Backwards compatibility isn't a big issue for me. The way I see it is, I buy a new console for new games, just like I upgrade or build my computer to play new games. I want to keep playing my 360/PS3 games... then I'll just turn on my 360 or PS3 lol.

Interesting that they're only going to try a Dark Soul's game play now lol. I still haven't finished it, I raged too much and gave up. My mate went through 3 controllers to finish it, says it was satisfying though.

Got it on 360 because I'm a pussy, but 2033 was so bloody good on PC and Last Light looks amazing so I can't wait to finish it and get it again for PC. It's a really good example for non-gaming types of how amazing story telling can be in video games (on top of a highly polished title).

Would you recommend playing Metro 2033 first?
Title: Re: Xbox One
Post by: dwaino on May 29, 2013, 07:01:54 PM
Highly recommend playing it, but not necessarily in order. So far IMO Last Light is a better game, but that's probably because it's newer and they've fixed stuff that was a little average in 2033 (the stealth sometimes felt iffy, and sometimes it felt clunky killing stuff) and just made the good stuff better and just generally polished it up more. The tension is just as awesome. Love treading carefully on the surface in Last Light, constantly wiping the gas mask to clean the mud and blood off it, monitoring the time left on the filter and trying to strategically re-charge the battery on the light. You have to manage your ammo down to the last otherwise your stuffed.

The events of Last Light do happen after 2033 and it's the same character but they let you in on enough and you get the idea. You can find 2033 at most JBs or online pretty cheap these days.

I'm a massive pussy when it comes to horror games (but love the movies and books) and I couldn't handle stuff like Silent Hill and Dead Space, but I'm fine with Metro. There is the occasional jump scare but it's really tasteful. I just find the game really claustrophobic and suffocating, but you just want to keep playing to find out what happens next.

Might invest in Metro 2033 and decide if I want to get Last Night on the next gen if at all.

Pretty pumped for Watch Dogs. Looks like it'd be hard to get everything to work perfectly to benefit you but if it's easy to get a hang of it could be very fun

Last Light is on current gen  ;D but yeah, Metro is one of the better stories told in gaming at the moment.

Agree, how good does Watch Dogs look. Love the concept of the game and the back story. But good point about it maybe have too much going on. Good example recently was Assassin's Creed 3. Looked amazing, played amazing, but so much of it was redundant or didn't work together. Having said that, they've (Ubisoft as well) have tended to stick with what works and drop what doesn't. So I'm pretty confident that Assassin's Creed: Black Flags and Watch Dogs will turn out great.

We will have to have a game when Fifa 14 comes out  ;D

Take redundant features like the homestead in AC3. Why do you rescue people on the frontier? So they can live at your homestead or nearby. Why do they live there? So they can generate supplies. What are the supplies for? To make things like wooden barrels. What are the wooden barrels and other junk for? To sell for money. What can you do with the money? .... ????

So they chuck this mess of features in, soak up some game time by making you do a few tutorials of it only for it to prove completely irrelevant and redundant. Looking at how they improved things like how you can level your assassins and stuff I imagine they'll integrate this resource and crafting system a little better next time.

Just splurged a bit at the annual EB mid year sale.

Picked up http://www.turtlebeach.com/product-detail/call-of-duty-headsets/ear-force-x-ray/67 for $148. Usually $248. They also have the Sierras (same headset but not wireless) for $98. Most stores are sold out though. Don't even need them but at a price like that you can't go past lol.

Grabbed Gears of War: Judgement (I'll admit.. I haven't played GoW since the first one) and the re-release of the new Mortal Kombat on 360 too. I had the original one on PS3 when you had to import it before the R18+ classification was introduced in Australia, but I lent that to a mate and never got it back. Also a pain that I had to use a US PS account to play it online too. Just a measly $28 will easily get the monies worth  :cheers

They have the Mass Effect trilogy for like $50 on 360 too if you're into that sort of thing. I didn't see if the PS3 version was on sale too, but that's the only way you'll ever get ME1 on PS3. I'm pretty sure the PS3 version ships will all DLC where as on 360 you'll be up for another $20-30 worth of DLC. Probably my favourite current franchise and can't wait to dive into another full ME play through since I downloaded the Citadel ME3 DLC but haven't got around to playing it yet. I have a full trilogy Paragon soldier save where Kelly Yeoman was the only person to die (I told her to help the refugees in ME3 :( ). Next I want to play through as a full Renegade engineer or vanguard.

Noticed EB are taking pre-orders for the XB1. I still don't know what to do in this regard. I'll get both XB1 and PS4 but I don't know which first (probably which ever is released first) and I don't know if I'll get them from EB or JB since release titles and storage specs aren't clarified so I don't know who will have the best packages yet.

Good pick up  :thumbsup might drop in on my way to work. Got the Mortal Kombat just the other day hahaha.
Don't think I've actually played Mass Effect, just one of those games I can't get myself to play and have no idea why. Might see what's left and have a little splurge haha.

I'm leaning heavily towards ps4 and it isn't even released yet, so hopefully they don't have a blunder. I'll end up with both as well but one will wait until price is way down.
I'm a JB fan so I'll probably go through them but have to wait and compare.

Always enjoyed the WWE games. I still have a crack on I think 2007 every now and again cause there's one challenge I can't do which is beat up that giant guy from The Longest Yard with a female wrestler on Legend difficulty  :banghead

Dropped into EB yesterday and picked up Metro 2033 for $15  :thumbsup. Will give it a shot tonight hopefully. Also picked up L.A Noire because I heard it's good and a game called Hunted. Never heard of it but the case looked interesting and that was good enough for me for $15

LA Noire is great for one play through. It's a shame Rockstar screwed over Bondi Games because after playing LA Noire I thought they had a bright future. RIP Aussie game studios. Some top celebrity voice actors too like John Noble  :cheers

Haven't played Hunted. Looked like a poor co-op dungeon crawler but you can't go wrong at that price lol.

Get hooked into Metro. Listen to all the conversations, search every hidden nook and cranny and immerse yourself  :thumbsup protip: don't shoot anything unless you have too, and if you do make every shot count.

 :lol what a spew.

The Last of Us should have come out two years ago but Naughty Dog built it from the ground up engine and all. Plenty of pre-release reviews calling it game of the generation, big call but should be good  :thumbsup

I grabbed Witcher 2 and Darksiders 2 for 360 from EB despite already having them on PC  :banghead been itching to dive into Gears of War Judgement but have been hooked on another Witcher 2 playthrough lol. What I don't get is in Australia we get a censored version since it was released before the new R18+ classification, but that censorship is the removal of two average sex scenes, but the game is still riddled with heaps of other absolutely full on sex scenes.  :huh

Not sure the logic in that
I've gotten hooked in L.A Noire. I was always worried it would just be to slow paced for my liking but its quite a good game.

LA Noire was a really good concept and it was a shame that Rockstar screwed Bondi Games because I reckon they were on to something. Though I have one major beef with LA Noire but I'll wait until you're finished before I say anything  :P

Stuck at work just watching IGN Australia and PCGM stick up E3 updates on stuff. PS4 console reveal in. I don't mind it, looks like the PS2. Just need to find out what's under the hood now.

IGN reporting that the XB1 base model will be US$499 and AU$599 and a November launch. Similar to last time. I wonder I the price that EB Games have been quoting for the PS4 was just a place holder. PS3 launch sales were considerably low due to the $999 price tag, so fingers crossed that will get dropped. Time to go into EB this week and chuck a pre-order on both and see if they'll chuck any games in as a package when more is known about release titles.

PS4 will have no DRM, no restrictions on pre-owned games, and no always on-line/occasional check in of any sort.

So knowing that and with the news already known that it will be more developer friendly, Sony have officially just won the next console war lol.

Thanks, I'll ask when I'm finished. Just got demoted to Arson and accidently hit restart when I was almost finished one of the stories and have to do it over again  :banghead

Haven't seen it yet just come on to see as a friend was saying Microsoft was getting destroyed by Sony  :lol

Will be $549 here but only $399 in the US. That's a rot, but still keen as mustard.

Play anything online on 360 or PS3 currently?

My biggest beef is actually two things, but kind of one. It's linear. An open world sandbox game but nothing to do. GTA and RDR at least had little missions or events if you went exploring. LA had nothing except for some collectables and dialog while driving or the occasional emergency call but was always across the other side of the map. The other part is it didn't matter how much information you gathered from crime scenes or how well you interrogated suspects, none of them were guilty anyway.

But it was an awesome concept and executed quite well but was really lacking. Have you played Sleeping Dogs? One of the most underrated GTA like sandbox games in recent years IMO.

New Bungie game looks wikid

Destiny looks awesome. Been following this one for a while. Ryse looks really good too but it's currently XB1 exclusive. Crytek aren't owned by Micro$oft though so I reckon in time it will come out on PS4 and PC too.

Really hanging for Witcher 3 but that's not until next year :( so far looks like most of the release titles are going to be current and next gen. Some really good new IPs on the way though ;D

Agree and those little missions are never anything different than each other or even the main parts. Could've tried mixing them up a little bit.

Keen for AFL Live 2. Me and my mates used to play 2v2 which was more fun than playing against or with a computer because you could set up overlaps and stuff making a more authentic game. http://m.au.ign.com/articles/2013/06/25/saints-row-iv-banned-in-australia

How much more over the top could it have gone from SR3 which was MA15+? You could beat people up with a giant purple dildo, and the mission where you rescue the gimp dude in a pony cart had me in tears. Looks like I'll be importing this one.

EB. I shop at JB more but the console price is the same and they'll price match the games. Handy to pre-order through them too with the EB card. I just walk in, they scan it and I chuck a few dollars on my order here and there. No bundles yet due to no confirmation on console or game release dates. But by the time there is you risk missing pre-order allocation.  :P

http://m.au.ign.com/articles/2013/06/26/alien-anal-probe-saw-saints-row-iv-refused-classification-in-australia

Turns out SR4 banned due to 'Alien anal probe' weapon. SR3 was MA15+ and you could beat people to death with a giant purple dildo (or YouTube the pony cart chase mission if you haven't played it and want massive lols). However, since you can shove it in people's bums this time (albeit pixelated still) in an entirely unrealistic way it's all of the sudden refused classification. Yet games like the new South Park will feature a 'stick of truth' (anal probe) and games like GTA depict realistic sex, drugs and violence are ok. Ok because it is 'in context.' This is what the R18+ rating is for.

You would think a bloke with a name like Donald McDonald would have a sense of humor. Apparently they're talking now of releasing a censored Aussie version. Well eff them, I'll just import a PAL copy from UK or Hong Kong.

Ok this is ridiculous now. Banned for drug use? OK, now ban every movie and TV show that depicts drug use you pack of geriatric old twits on the ACB.

Getting a bit worried about GTA5 now. Luckily PS4 isn't region locked and we can thank the ACB for the destruction of games retailers in Australia due to everyone importing their games.

State of Decay resubmitted after developer simply changed 'stimulants' to 'supplements,' which is great because as an adult I wasn't aware that consuming stimulants did not in fact make me healthier. I also can't recognise the difference between IRL and a zombie apocalypse. All good though  :cheers

I really like Forza Horizon. I have Forza 4 too but the track and circuit racing doesn't do it for me. Horizon reminds me of my favorite Need For Speed, NFS Carbon. Forza is developed by Turn 10 who is an in house MS studio, so will always be Xbox exclusive. Unless you mean exclusive to XB1 I'm which case that's so people buy the new consoles.

I'm ticked that Titanfall and Ryse are XB1 exclusive but they're by Dice, an EA subsidiary so with luck they should come out on the PS4 in time. I'll end up getting both consoles as usual though.

Post by: tiga on July 09, 2013, 01:04:54 PM
yeah dwaino I mean't XBox One. I've had a 360 for years and bought the last 3 seasons of Forza so I am disappointed that I would have to buy to new console to get F5.
They only way Microsoft will get me to do this is if they add the Bathurst circuit to F5.

I do like the NFS series for all out fun but I prefer the more technical racing aspects of Forza. Might take a look at Horizons though as the open world map sounds appealing.

360 (and PS4) tech is nearly a decade old and developers are itching to push their games further. It definitely appears like a massive cost, especially if you're not a massive gamer, but just think after you foot the cost once that's it for many more years to come  :cheers

Title: Re: Xbox One
Post by: dwaino on July 12, 2013, 01:05:21 PM
Been floated around for a bit and it's hard to know whether or not to get excited yet until we know the developer. The wii is an arse console and Wicked Witch tried making their game with the kind of features you find in an EA Sports title so keen to see what they can do with new tech. On the other hand Big Ant made the first half decent footy game but was massively let down by obvious small studio limitations.

Australian video game production is barren since the US publishers pulled the pin on Aussie devs and it's hard to see any really quality titles at all coming out of here at all barring indie games.

Rugby Live 2 is meant to be pretty decent which was Big Ant too. Some of the best fun I've had was sitting around with 5 or 6 mates on the pee and playing AFL Live 2v2. Had some really intense games and the stakes were always high. The game would go up a level because you could do overlaps, shepherd and the games were generally much faster with a couple real people on each side.

Only current gen, will sell like poo. I had planned to smash out GTA5 between release and PS4 launch then say good bye and pack away my PS3 and 360. This game doesn't look worth keeping the PS3 (despite what it says on that link it's on both consoles) set up for when I'm already going to be Fifa and Madden whoring on the PS4.

The Dennis Commetti fan page on stuff chucked this up. Not sure where they sourced it from but I assume it to be true.
Quote
Some news features include-

Career mode

A career mode spanning 15 years will let you follow a player's career beginning in the under-18 TAC Cup, through the second-tier VFL league and finally — hopefully — through AFL ranks.
The mode will include full drafting and trading — two integral features of a realistic sports management mode — while also burdening you, as the club's manager, with sponsorships dealings, staff contracts and tribunal hearings.

More than 60 teams

Along with the 18 AFL teams — including the two expansion teams Gold Coast Suns and Greater Western Sydney Giants — teams from the TAC Cup and VFL will be included, as well as the Victorian "Big V" team, Indigenous All-Stars, and teams from the International Cup played against Ireland.

commentary from DENNIS COMMETTI & Tom Harley!

Top features but some info on the engine would be fantastic.

I've got a nice little empty spot next to the ps3 and a spare HDMI port in the back of the TV, all I need is to buy a cord (assuming it doesn't come with one) and I'll be set

I wish they'd hurry up and finalise pre-order figures and sort out the production so we can get a release date. Have heard anywhere from end of October, to November 3rd, 13th, and 27th. The sooner they announce it the sooner I can book some time off work and organise my comfy undies that I'm going to sit and fester in for a week.

Some rumours swirling that production may not even meet launch day demand yet. AMD have said their production increases as launch approaches and so no issues on their end, but just confirms the message that anyone who misses launch day will have to wait for the post Christmas batch  :'(

Yep. Already joined the choir letting loose against the ACB on IGN this morning  :lol

Buuutttt they actually only appealed the previous decision, they didn't re-submit an edited version. It's an absolute rot. These prudes on the ACB need to bugger off. I'm not suggesting we open the flood gates to everything, but the idea of an adult rating is because adults know that taking drugs really don't give you super powers. I think we're the only country that still treat video games as a toy only for children. It's easy. If it's as extreme as to contain child pornography (never ok in or out of context), out of context sexual violence (realistic, not comically stylised that an adult could tell the difference), out of context racial violence (say Man Hunt), etc then sure you have grounds. Any thing else that is considered adult only material whether it is movie or whatever shouldn't be denied to adults if the only difference is in video game format. If they want to play it safe then remove the MA15+ classification that way there are no grey areas. Then it is either M or R. The new consoles again are not region locked. So while the government bangs on about retail sales down, they can see that millions of dollars will be sent overseas for what will be a best seller because they want to play nanny state. Ozgameshop will be massive grinners out of this.

Just read the comments on the Brisbane times site. This guy says what I'm try to say much clearer. Brilliant comment

Quote
Once again, the unelected and conservative officials of the classification board have decided to be out nanny's, and stop consenting adults from being able to purchase a product for their own entertainment.
We all know that if it isnt released in Australia, people will either purchase from overseas, further harming Australian businesses, or just pirate the game, harming both Australian businesses, and the artists who spent a lot of time and hard work making this game possible?
We see movies on TV all the time with plenty of drug use and references, and they only get a MA15+ rating. Once more, these head-in-the-sand cretins still insist that games are only played by children, when it has been established time and again, that the age of the average gamer is in the 25-35 year old bracket.
If we cannot vote them into , and more importantly, out of office, they have no right telling Australians what they can and cannot do with their own money. I will be ignoring this ruling of theirs, and acquiring this game from overseas sources. I will NOT pay for a version that is completely different to everywhere else, and thus misunderstand any references made in any guides.
Congratulations CRB, while my solitary contribution to sales tax from this product may not be overly missed, the more you make boneheaded decisions like this, the more people will do as I do, and source from overseas. You wont be able to justify your wages, or existence, wont the majority of Australia get sick and tired of your conservative regime, and the source of taxation losses gets dumped squarely on your shoulders.

$89?! Bloody hell. EB Games? I swear I've seen it for $69 at JB.

In between smashing out old games (just cleaned up all Fallout: New Vegas DLC in a Steam sale) I'm getting by at the moment watching the GTA 5 gameplay trailer on a daily basis. Next month now. Coooome oooooooonnnnnnnnnnn http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-xHcvug3WI

Looks good doesn't it. Looks like it'll be better than IV
Title: Re: Xbox One
Post by: dwaino on August 03, 2013, 11:01:22 PM
Not worth paying premium price for any current gen game at the moment IMO... except for GTA V ;D Even if you're not getting a new console on launch I expect current gen game prices to take even a small hit by Christmas.

And yeah, V does look a heap better. Looks like what IV should have been. After San Andreas I don't know why they suddenly left out all the stuff like car modding and general debauchery. I still enjoyed IV for the story (Rockstar can write a good narrative) but it just didn't have the feeling.

Yep I learned my lesson, I thought I'd really enjoy it and have struggled to find it so thought eh I'll spend the extra coin silly me. Reckon I might just chuck AFL in and give it a whirl haha.

Yep sums it up well. Was a bit of fun doing burnouts and drifting around and having the occasional massacre but didn't bat very deep.

http://au.ign.com/articles/2013/08/05/the-last-of-us-confirmed-to-be-censored-in-pal-territories

Never noticed as I haven't played a lot of the MP in The Last of Us (lots of fun though). Turns out the PAL version (so not just AU version) is toned down which is surprising considering the level of graphic violence in the single player campaign. Not confirmed, but I believe the culprit is Germany as they have an even stricter violence guideline in video games. Since our R18+ classification we can pretty much go as violent and gorey as we want (just no real world drugs or alien anal probes).

*just like v1-agra, d1ld0 is also forbidden on this server. Either to stop spam bots, or the host is a prude.

Reckon it should be clear if it's been toned down before it goes on sale so people know what they're buying

I agree. In most cases would like to know so I can order it from the UK or Hong Kong instead. Unfortunately, this applies to the entire PAL version  :( not a game breaker though. To be honest I didn't even know until I read this.

Probably one of the best story games I've ever played. Acting and script is A+. Really good action/stealth game too (going in guns blazing every time is suicide.

It's like a combination of the movie The Road and a bit of Walking Dead in there.

Do you use a mic or headset at all? If you do and get TLOS and keen on some MP let me know. It's 4v4 and you try and scavenge for supplies but it's all sneaking and silent kills (if you start with a gun you only get a few bullets, so can't blaze away). I always get raped by teams that work together  :banghead

:lol I'm up to level 65 on Candy Crush without spending a cent. It would seem I am stuck as now it's really just luck. Speaking of in app purchases, pretty disgusted at Plants vs Zombies 2 and EA charging for plants that were available for free in the first one. Something like that they could even get away with a $9.99 premium price and it's the full game. I refuse to pay to win.

Yeeeeeeeessssssssssss  :clapping Madden 25 looks awesome. Think I'll put in a request for that for xmas on the PS4  :cheers

Slowly ticking down to GTA V. Have spent 45 hours on this Fallout: New Vegas playthrough, probably 75% through main story, a heap of side quests to do, done bugger all exploring and only up to the 2nd of 4 DLCs... starting to become a chore  :lol Hurry up GTA  :banghead :banghead :banghead

How are you enjoying Madden 25 Coach? From the dev trailers looks like they improved ball carrying and collision physics. Graphics look like they've been upgraded too. Looks great but since it's a next gen title too I'm asking Santa for that and NBA2k14 for Christmas.

Oh yeah minus the tackles haha. It just doesn't feel like you can turn and kick the ball out wide to someone on the lead. It's just kick, mark, kick, mark goal

I said I wasn't getting any game besides GTA V prior to PS4, but I just grabbed Diablo 3 on PS3. It was a massive case of Diablows on PC but I'm just wanting it to be really good  :pray I know WoW has been in a steady decline for quite some time, but I refuse to accept just yet that Blizzard can completely destroy one of their franchises  :banghead

Madden treating me very well, dwaino. Bowden going along just nicely too G man ;D Haven't played much Madden since 09 so I can't tell you how it stacks up against recent games. Gameplay is very good IMO and Franchise mode is always good.

I watched a bit of footage of a dude riding his bike around Grove St and I read a bit of IGN's hands on but that's it. Oh and I looked up what has been leaked about the radio stations and a bit peeved that there looks to be no hard rock or metal stations  :'( but can't wait! I'll be at Southland EB midnight launch but won't be able to play until tomorrow night  :'( :'( was reading that the multiplayer 'story' takes place after single player campaign so I hope there isn't much in the way of spoilers. The campaign is massive and I want to be chomping into the MP pretty early.

This is huge. Arguably the biggest and very probable the greatest video game ever made about to launch  :cheers

Cheers  :clapping I saw Target advertising that in a mag the other day but wasn't aware they were doing a midnight sale. At Southland Target is almost right next to JB who are also doing a midnight launch so I would imagine they would be price matching, so hopefully EB do too even though they're up the other end and two levels higher  :banghead

After that mission where you help save Michael's son James, James sends an SMS saying he sent a friend request on life invader (lolol) but I never see it? Also, do you have an iPhone or something and tried the ifruit app? I got it but apparently no can log in because the servers are overloaded. Men,

I've played some GTA in my time but the storyline/mission stuff has never really interested me. I just like king hitting randoms on the street and stealing cars etc. Is this game good enough in that area for me to purchase? Would that keep me entertained? I haven't viewed any vids of this game or read anything as I'm usually only a sports gamer. Thoughts would be appreciated

Regards,
 Dave

I've only read a couple of reviews, but they say the world they have created is huge, you can basically do anything you want. Play golf or tennis, feel up strippers at a strip club and hijack planes etc.

Even more so than the previous games. You can even hold up shops in this one.

I haven't even left the city yet. Tonight I've done one or two story missions. Spent the rest of the time at a strip club, playing tennis and levelling Franklin's shooting skills at the range  ;D

What platform wayno? Me and Yeahright are on PS3 and will form a gang once online launches October 1st.

If you love king hitting this game has upped it big time. The big hay makers knocking people out before they hit the ground is a thing of beauty. Went driving in the desert hitting as many deer as possible, huge map so kept me going for a while! :thumbsup

Fools and their money...

Grand Theft Auto V sets record as sales zoom past $1 billion

Grand Theft Auto V has set a sales record for entertainment products, passing the $1 billion sales mark after three days, its creator Take Two Interactive Inc said.

The latest instalment of GTA, a cultural phenomenon that has sparked a national debate on adult content and violence, received strong reviews and racked up $800 million in first-day sales alone, selling at a faster rate than any other video game, film or other entertainment product in history.

Absolutely correct but I wonder if you understand what the word legitimate means.

These sort of games are anti-social at best.

At worst they are a plague on modern society IMHO.

In apartments with showers you get RP for literally singing in the shower. So I had my entire crew in my apartment, since I'm the only one that has one, singing over the mic  :banghead

You guys sound like you are having a ball! I think I'm going to have to invest in this game. I might wait until the PS4 comes out and get it then. I'm not going to spend any more money on my 360
as I heard some bad things about the XBox One that are really turning me off it. Like paying a fee for using second hand games and reducing the features for units outside the US. Also having an always on internet connection to use it is a worry. This all may change come release day but I'm going to switch to a PS4 anyway.
Also hanging out for GT 6 which has Bathurst!!!!  :thumbsup Never owned a PS previously so it will be interesting.

No word on GTA5 on next gen yet, so might be in for a wait  :shh

As for those XB1 limitations, Micro$oft have done a back flip on most of them. You can again buy and sell pre-owned for no fee and they've removed the always online feature. I guess it will be like the PS4 in that you just require an occasional login. So the XB1 is safe to get once again but I'm still going PS4 ;D it's a slighlty more powerful unit but with multi platform games you tend to see a compromised game to suit the weaker platform (this is why exclusives always look so damn good).

At this late stage there may be a shortage of consoles in release day unless you preordered early. I think the second run is just after Christmas.

I think I'll get an XB1 mid next year too though for Ryse. That game looks sick  :cheers

So far for PS4 I have the following on order:

Watch Dogs
FIFA 14
CoD: Ghosts
Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag
Destiny (though not out until 2014 :()

Might have to add NBA2k14 after seeing the  screenshots.

Thanks for the update dwaino.  :thumbsup I guess the balance is now tipping back towards the Xbox One for me if everything happens as you say. Forza 5 will have Bathurst on XBox One anyway. turns out that the Bathurst track was the most requested track worldwide which made the decision to include it by Turn 10 a no brainer. No wonder thay had Xbox One and Forza 5 banners everywhere at last weeks race.  Am I the only console Motorsport fan on this forum or are there others? Would be great to have a race with someone on Bathurst when it comes out.

My second tele was only a 30" 720p, and since I'll be playing a lot more when the PS4 comes out and won't be able to commandeer the nice big plasma in the loungeroom as often, it was a good idea to upgrade it. JB have a 10% off TVs at the moment and narrowed it down to two 32" teles. Went to see what Harvey Norman had since I would have preferred to chuck it on interest free and defer the payment until after Xmas, they had the exact same models and matched JB.

It was between an LG and this Samsung. Decided on this one in the end http://www.jbhifi.com.au/tv-lcd-led-plasma/samsung/32-inch-full-hd-3d-dual-core-smart-led-tv-sku-397400/ a little dearer than the LG (and HN were cheaper by a dollar believe it or not  ;D). $670. Solid price. 1080p, 100hz and 3D capable.

If you're like me and relegated to another TV, or have kids or something and looking to buy a new HD TV to take advantage of all the new things of next gen consoles then make sure of the following:

1080p (p, not i!)
minimum 60hz
game mode function (they're all smart tvs now and bloated with crap. This disables the crap and gives you a better response time)

soundbar usually $347 but on sale for $297. This room isn't ideal for a 7.1 bar and frankly didn't want to spend the coin. So just got a top end 2.1 instead. Them hot bunnies get ya every time.

Last time I went there was a few years ago when my housemate needed a pair and after doing all the tests and getting a few options he just chose a different pair for cheaper. Guarantee if it had been a hot chick serving him they'd have got the extra $100 or so  :lol

Just a little off level 43 and almost fully modded Elergy RH8 (this thing is unbeatable) and Sabre Tooth Turbo and a premium apartment, I turned my focus to hunting rare cars 8) while my crew all hunted and obtained a Sultan I finally found a Rat Loader. Been to the strip club, mouthed off at the bouncer and he started throwing 'em so I pulled out a gun and gave him one to remember.

Long install? Must be a 360  8) :lol

They laugh now.... wait until it's a Rat Rod ;D found a rare Imponte Pheonix by chance just driving back  to my garage to log off too.
Yep missus has a 360. PS3 at mine. Much better.

Finally bought it. Why is there a disk to install it FFS.

Bought a pair of shoes from Athletes foot. First time in years. They measure my feet and put me through all these walking tests and have me try on many runners. Finally I choose a pair. I get to the counter and I hear "that will be 250$$$". Almost had a stroke. Haven't purchased footwear that expensive since my younger days in football. They just sprung it on me. The chick who dealt with me was hot though so I forked out the 250
Them hot bunnies get ya every time.

Last time I went there was a few years ago when my housemate needed a pair and after doing all the tests and getting a few options he just chose a different pair for cheaper. Guarantee if it had been a hot chick serving him they'd have got the extra $100 or so  :lol

As for GTA V long-arse install time too. The king-hitting is awesome. Get a run up and smash some pricks.  :cheers

Coach, as the flight of the Conchord's once said,

"They're turning kids into slaves just to make cheaper sneakers
But what's the real cost, 'cause the sneakers don't seem that much cheaper
Why are we still paying so much for sneakers when you got little kid slaves making them
What are your overheads?"  ;D

Got a few strippers on the go but now they keep saying they busy. Is my game stuffed or do you only get to see parts of the map as you discover them for the first time? How do you geezers make money? I haven't done missions, just getting  my $$ by stealing a cab and then working as the driver :lol This game is unreal. Haven't found that many shops to rob.

Looks like NHL14 will carry me through  :cheers my favourite modes in sports games are the player career and GM modes. For the first time in any sports game I've played on player mode I got my pro to be #1 draft pick ;D too bad the Avs suck  :banghead

GM mode still best on Fifa imo because you have a gazillion leagues to play moneyball and source your players from. In NHL it's significantly harder to net a gun without giving up an arm and a leg.

Trying some realistic sim sliders off a hockey forum. Still struggling to find something to play for 3 more weeks. Hopefully new Bioshock Infinite DLC Burial at Sea isn't far away.

Have Walking Dead 400 days downloaded and ready to go on Steam but apparently it's only a few hours long but with season 2 announced might be good to knock that one over too.

Except for when you do Ultimate Team, online pro and comps  ;D :outtahere

It does seem like they rebadge the same game every year, but usually there are some pretty impressive tweaks and slider profile upgrades. They developed the engine years ago and just keep working on it. Games always recycle engines, you can't just build a new one every game. Often an engine will take twice as long to develop as a game. A trap that Naughty Dog and Rockstar admit they fell into with their recent games (The Last of Us and GTA5). They both said they should have just used their previous capable engines that they developed in house. This year from FIFA 13 to 14 on current gen it almost just is a copy-paste job, but it has been put on a new engine for next gen. More various and complex animations, physics and ball control. Goes orrite  :thumbsup

The CoDs are a different story but. Generally they're nothing more than an overpriced DLC that they're flogging off as a new game. I always made sure to grab a new Modern Warfare when it came out because I honestly don't think Infinity Ward do a bad job, but I'm not a big fan of Treyarch as a developer and the Blops games really show their lack of polish. Since I held out on Ghosts until PS4 (got a copy of Ghosts for PS4 sitting beside me atm though ;D) I'm yet to try it, but I'm currently optimistic since it's on a new engine, developed by Infinity Ward, and in glorious 1080p at 60fps. I hope Activision don't plan on keep pumping out CoD games every 12 months like they are with two different developers working on a different series each (takes about 2 years to develop each one).

EA made some comments last week trying to take a dig at Activision and CoD, by saying that Battlefield won't be an annual thing. Everyone was quick to remind them that they don't seem to have an issue putting out a new FIFA, Madden and NHL every year   :lol. Lots of fear at the moment online that since NBA Live 14 was such a flop that EA might just try and buy the NBA license, like they did NFL, since they can't seem to beat 2K fair and square. Fingers crossed 2K muscle in on the NFL when the agreement between EA and the NFL ends so we can finally have a decent football game.

No... I don't have anything in life besides video games  :lol :'(

I logged into PS website last night to make sure I remembered my password since it's saved on the console and never have to use it, and I saw you were playing Rugby Live 2  :lol how goes it?

EA wouldn't make enough return to sink any cash into a rugby or AFL game. Was reading an interview with the lead of their NHL team about why there will be no NHL 14 on PS4/XB1 and he said it's because the FIFA and Madden teams will be working out the kinks on the new systems. I interpreted that as EA don't want to spend the money on any other of their sports teams to learn the new stuff.

Have you upgraded to PS+ yet? I think you said you aren't getting a PS4 at launch, but I got my PS+ a few weeks ago so I was ready and there are some pretty cool free games you can already get for PS3 from the PS Store.

Just coming up for air. PS4 is great. Loving the cross game chat like 360 had. Most of my mates are PS so we can now chat without being in the same game. The machine is fast, loading times minimal. Can even stuff back to dashboard while a game is loading.

As for games. AC4 > GTA5. The sheer scale is even greater. I'm only on sequence 5, have been spending most of the time waging war at sea, destroying forts and finding treasures and getting 100% unlocks in towns. Still trying to upgrade my ship though since man-o-wars are smashing me :(

Fifa14 almost an entirely different game from fifa14 on ps3/360.

Cod ghosts really surprised me. Looks awesome and handles great. Didn't play for long because I wanted to get back to AC4.

Only downside at the moment is multiplayer. PS4 is rare esoecially in Aus at the moment so it's hard to find good local games. This will obviously pick up by new years when the second and third shipments arrive. We were playing fifa online clubs last night against some bloke in Egypt and the latency was negligible.

Still yet to stick in Killzone.

Watched some footage of that game before, looks 200x better than Ashes 13 but still doesn't look natural. You're right, every shot looks like a cover drive and the commentary still lags too far behind the actual gameplay.

I don't know how many indians have consoles, but surely if a great cricket game was made, there is a huge market for them to tap into.

The Ricky Ponting Ashes game a few years back wasn't too bad even if it were using the same recycled  commentary from SW 99  :lol another problem with every cricket game is that they are never 100% ICC licensed and can't use the names outside of Ashes or whatever it is themed on.

International cricket on SNES was good too.

Since being relegated to second tv (though smaller than the loungeroom telly is actually better for gaming) and using an office chair I've been getting a sore back.... so I just bought a la-z-boy for no other purpose other to game on  :lol

PS4 collection has now expanded to include NBA2k14 and Battlefield 4. 2k is disappointing. The career mode is awesome but gameplay plagued with some frustrating mechanics. For example if you get a free shot from the perimeter you still have to time the shot perfectly. Imstead of punishing the D for letting you open, you get punished for missing the shot release by a fraction of a second. Miss a couple shots and you go cold and good luck draining any baskets other than an uncontested breakaway layup.

For all the fanning BF4 gets it's underwhelming. Runs at 900p on consoles with crappy textures so BF3 on my PC on ultra settings is still better. Hit registry is all over the shop, 64 player maps means every game is sniper ally/camp haven and the PS4 version is plagued with a random crash error. Actually preferring CoD Ghosts.

Finally been chomping into Killzone: Shadowfall. Visuals are stunning and online is great. Instead of leveling up through XP you unlock stuff through challenges.

Will be slim for new games over next 6 months. I think Driveclub will be out and Watch Dogs. Keen for WD. Latest PS Australia mag showing off more of The Order. Super interested in that one.

Can you still do the VC hack?

On 2k13 it was going to take me about 15 seasons to make my player half decent, then I used the VC loophole, and by the end of the first season my player is ranked 99 on almost everything.
Title: Re: Xbox One

Which hack? Was it the save games where you have a bunch of games saved with only minutes on the clock? Don't use any myself but seen the VC hack question asked several times and the answer is always the same hacks are apparently still there. I usually just play seasons or exhibition games and use the VC on my dude.

The career mode has been overhauled and pretty in depth. From the showcase you are pitched against your rival in the same position that you are trying to beat for a higher draft position. Various times there is smack talk. When our teams first  came to play each other he challenged me to who would get more points (in my game we're both SGs). This is where it got unfair. You get more court minutes to try. I was counting his scores and even leaving my assignments to mark him since my teammates were letting him in the paint. I got to 17 and counted his score to 7. Then in the 3rd it showed tue comparison and he had 15??? Anyway, I got two baskets and 1/2 free throws making 22, he got a 3, a 2 and 1/2 frees. 21 right? No. It said he was on 22.  I ended up losing the challenge 28-26 when I should have had him blown away by 10. Didn't help that I'm on the Jazz and he's Thunder. It's crap like that which is turning me off sports games. Like rubber banding. Stop punishing the player for being good.

Yeah that's it.

I had 5 games saved all with ~20 seconds left. I'd play them all, collect 2500 VC, upgrade my player, play a season game, then go back out and play my saved games again.

Might do that myself. They've removed the 3 training drills a week for an occassional team drill so you cant get that cheap VC anymore. I'm on the Jazz and they suck in my game. I'm sixth man and the coach sent me out to get 8 points with 60% accuracy and reduce the gap from 14 to 5. I got 21 points at 55% but couldn't reduce the gap because my team sucks. So he pulled me into the office post game and said my minutes were reduced. So I cracked it, then at training hard fouled Jefferson, abused him and the trainer had to break it up  :lol so my dude is going to be a jerk now and I'm trying to get traded.

In 2k13 on my SG I maxed 3pt, shoot in traffic and shoot from dribble and got shot creator and dead eye. Would just roam the perimeter racking up 40+ a game (but still get abused on social media for not getting enough boards  :lol)

Wayno I tried the save trick but there is no more save and quit option.  BUT you can start a GM mode, choose the Heat, tell the owner you'll accomplish his tasks and sim the season (turn off injuries and fatigue and turn on automation). Delete save and do it again.  Average about 700 VC in 5-10 mins. One time I only got 250 but one time got over 1000

Just to nerd it up again, I think the new lot of Nvidia cards (Maxwell) are just around the corner. I think the mobile versions (840m?) are already on spec sheets of some laptops coming out shortly and tech sites reporting a feb-march release of the 880. But as some tech forums are saying will probably be on the 28nm die still so will have to wait until 2nd half of 2014 for the 20nm die. I'm still rocking GTX680 since the performance upgrade to a 780 was negligible, but I'm rolling with an i5-2500k which is Sandy and finally falling behind with the Haswells. Hard to determine if it's worth upgrading this year since PC gaming will stall for a good 1-2 years with the new consoles out and by the time the 20nm Maxwells are out it will probably be only 6-10 months from the 9xx.

http://m.au.ign.com/articles/2014/05/06/destiny-is-a-500-million-gamble-stuff

Bungie's (developer of the Halo series) latest shooter in development could be the most expensive game ever made yet. It could end up costing $500million in both development and promotion, even more than GTA V, making it yet another video game costing more to produce and market than any Hollywood film. Big risk though as Destiny is a new IP compared to a known one like Rockstar's GTA series. Hard to imagine anyone other than gamers will take notice of the Bungie involvement so this game will have to be able to stand on its own. From what I have seen I think it will be a ripper, looks like Borderlands 2 style play of gunning and looting but with some really great RPG elements.

No surprise more and more big name actors are getting involved in gaming with most recently Kevin Spacey looking like he is to play the bad guy in the trailer of the next Call of Duty, Advanced Warfare. Martin Sheen playing the Illusive Man in Mass Effect 2 and 3 one of my favourites so far.

Don't want to sound like 'that guy' but a bit skeptical at the moment. Last year Dice had a dig at Activision saying Battlefield won't be an annual thing. It seems like EA are wanting to cash in on and muscle into Payday territory especially since the success of Payday 2. I'll give it fair go regardless of things like who is publishing it unlike some of my hardcore gaming brethren,  but after the shamozzle that was the BF4 launch it will be in EA's best interest to actually let Dice finish the game this time.

E3 around the corner. Can't wait for some juicy announcements ;D

Title: Re: Xbox One
Post by: dwaino on June 06, 2014, 12:22:57 AM
My thoughts exactly mate. They delayed it for 8 months and it is hardly polished. I've had several bugged missions I have had to restart, there are heaps of minor non-game breaking bugs, multiplayer is completely unbalanced in favor of the defender and it's ridiculous that it is 900p on new consoles. Seems like the delay was to put in the pee weak free roam after the success of GTA online. I think it is a good start for a new IP and the story is really good even if it is a rip from Persons of Interest but definitely a let down. A big issue at the moment is these games also coming to old consoles meaning the final product is gimped. Also the development team is split as most of platforms are on different architecture though xbone and ps4 are more similiar than what the ps3 and 360 were. I was really hanging for Dragon Age: Inquisition and Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor but worried about them being gimped too now.

Can't wait for Destiny though. 2014 is shapung up to be a crap year for games but 2015 is looking a ripper with Witcher 3 and The Division. There are obviously the annual sports games still to come. Seriously giving FIFA15 a miss for the first time in years. At least at launch anyway. Really keen for NHL 15 especially now that it is on the Ignite engine and I want to give it a solid work out. Most of my wog mates play FIFA though so will still get it at some stage I guess though.

Free roam doesn't feel as "free" as GTA. Lacks punching random people, the driving is crap and I don't know what it is but the map just doesn't feel as open? Not sure how to explain what I mean. Luckily I haven't encountered any bugs but read about a few which led to this....

Haven't finished it yet but the story has been pretty good so far and the hacking parts are pretty fun. Can't wait for Destiny, always loved the Halo's and they always made me end up getting the new Xbox consoles. Hopefully Destiny fills the void  ;D.
Don't think I'll get any of the annual sport games. Originally I liked EA's version of basketball but that turned to ass, I'm still happy with 2k12 because it takes me to long to get my players any decent  :lol and I have FIFA 14 and I only get them every other year as they don't change too much.

My Watch Dog bugs have been things like "escape or kill pursuers" and even after killing them all the mission won't end so I have to restart. I only have 3 convoys and 4 driving side missions to go and on Act III, so almost got the 100% clock. Done all the investigations and stuff because I was going for the platinum but the online is peeing me off and I'm struggling with some of the later drinking games so it can get stuffed  ;D I wonder if Ubisoft are getting old with their ideas. The Watch Dogs formula is almost identical to Farcry 3 which was just lifted from Assassin's Creed. AC Unity and The Division will be a good gauge at how they're going as they will be only new gen.

NBA2k14 on ps4 is a dead set ripper. I've played the crap out of that one. The career mode just gets better every year. You're right that FIFA games don't change but when everyone else upgrades you're compelled to do the same just to be able to play against them :(

Speaking of xbox saw EB have a xbone + 4 games for $498 with a ps3 or 360 slim trade in. Think I might take advantage of that one for next Forza and Halo. Witcher 3 will be the next benchmark in graphics and will understandably be scaled back on consoles. Seriously considering doing a PC upgrade for it next year but will first see what 4A games do with Metro Redux. Last Light looked amazing on my PC and the console version was arse. If the new ps4 port of 2033 and Last Light look as good as my PC I'll hold off on the PC upgrade for a while longer. The Last of Us remaster isn't far away either. Won't pay full price for that again but definitely will the moment I see it on sale. No issues paying the same of Metro Redux though because it will be 2 games in one.

Just went into EB with my PS3 and 360 slims, all the games for each and 5 PS4 games I won't play anymore. Worked out to $941 lol I'm only a level 2 EB World member so imagine a level 4. So I grabbed the xbone bundle with kinect, BF4, Watch Dogs (already got these on PS4 so I'll just trade them in next week), Titanfall (already have it on PC), Forza, then I also got play and charge kit, 12 month sub to live gold, Dead Rising 3 and Ryse, and then Wolfenstein for PS4. All that and managed to also walk out with a $180 gift voucher  :lol

Yeah I'll probably wait it out for NBA 2k15 instead of paying still pretty decent coin for a game that will have a new one in a couple months. Hoping they bring out a good Rugby Union game. Have always enjoyed them and even the bad ones, unlike rugby league live which I paid good money for and was left pretty disappointed.

Not a bad return at all for the EB trade in hahaha. Got two xbox 360's here and a ps3, might have to consider a trade in  ;D
Title: Re: Xbox One
Post by: dwaino on June 07, 2014, 09:01:44 AM
Good idea on NBA 2k. Unlike EA, 2K tend do something different and better each time. The step up from 13 to 14 was unreal, hope they beef it up again for 15. Even if you can borrow 2k14 though in the mean time to check out the graphics, probably the best looking console game to date.

Since your old consoles are slims you might be able to pick up a xbone for nothing if you're into having both consoles for the sake of it. I'm predominately PS but not discriminate and refuse to miss out on good exclusives so I didn't like the idea of putting heaps of money on a console that will mostly sit there doing nothing so trading everything in that I was never going to play again just made sense.

The trade in deals for the xbone at EB for $398 (Forza, Watch Dogs, Battlefield 4 I think is the combo, and no kinect) and $498 (kinect plus those games and Titanfall) are because they're giving $100 instead of $80 or 90 for the slims. Since my PS3 was the 250GB slim we used that one in the deal and then they chucked the 10% on because of the level2 card making it $110, and my 360 was the 320GB slim so I got $132. It was $11 for controllers, 16.50 for my old kinect. They want the power and control (ps3) charging chords as well as the AV cables. I chucked my original 360 AV cable in but forgot about doing the same for the PS3 so they just docked $5 for not having an AV or HDMI with it. Games wise going through the receipt the cheapest trade in was 1.50, but then stuff like BF3 they gave 3.50 and Batman Arkham City was $8. Even Uncharted 2 and Dragon Age which are pretty ancient were nearly 4 bucks. Some of my newer sports games and stuff like GTA V were over $15. Average somewhere between 4 and 6. Thought it was odd though that they gave $22 for NHL14 (ps3 obviously) yet $25 for PS4 CoD Ghosts, Thief, and Infamous SS, yet I got $55 for my Lego games ;D

So if you want just use that as a guide and see what you have and if you think it's worthwhile trading in all your stuff and picking up an xbone for nothing. I was pretty attached to my old consoles and games for a long time but I'm never ever going to play any of them again so I just bit the bullet and took them in.
Title: Re: Xbox One

Yeah might see if a mate will let me borrow it once I finish WD's. That'll keep me busy for a while. Mmmm yeah I don't think I can get rid of my ps3 yet, especially when I still sometimes go back to play some of my old sport games on it. Might have to think about the 360 though since I never use it except for DVD's :lol. But the xbone will probably be similar although if I don't really have to pay as much it might be worth it.

Speaking of WD's bugs I had my first one yesterday. Went to go into the shipping container that takes you to your base and he decided to just walk through the door but then he couldn't get out. He'd use his phone to "open" the door but it wouldn't open and he'd just walk into the door turn around and stand in the container :banghead

I finally finished Watch Dogs last night. Story, convoys, fixer contracts, intervention, hideouts and all the investigations. Only left out the last couple drinking games because they were frustrating and some online stuff. So two gold and a heap of silver trophies  ;D game is ridden with bugs and not polished enough after an 8 month delay. Wasn't overly impressed but I think I squeezed a fair bit out of it so can't complain in that regard.

I decided to splurge the rest of my EB voucher on a vertical stand for the ps4 because it was getting cluttered with the xbox, and the ear force xo seven headset for the xbone.. even though I already have a px51 headset for the ps4 I didn't want to stuff around changing cables and re-pairing lol. Not many excuses to play the xbone yet though. I really want to dive into Wolfenstein and Tomb Raider (again) for ps4 because feels like a waste with the xbox sitting there. Might power through Ryse first because it's short, looks pretty and has a heap of average reviews meaning I won't need to play it again. Good idea to wait if you don't have enough to trade in yet to get one for nothing if you're not going to play it as much like me, but on the other hand your stuff is only going to keep going down in value. As much as I wanted to hold onto GTA V, The Last of Us and NHL 14, what was the point if my ps3 was packed away never to come out again? That was my justification.

Last night downloaded and installed Forza 5 but haven't played it yet. Just stuck in Ryse from the disc... Xbox One install times are ridiculous compared to PS4. Just looked it up on Google to see if it were a problem and was reading some comparisons of the same games taking 9 minutes to install on Xbone compared to 42 seconds on PS4. derp.

Have heard the PS4 is more powerful and gets a better graphics boost hence the new version xbox ones are coming without Kinect.

Not a great deal of difference really TM. If you have mates that play get the same ones as them or compare the planned list of exclusives and see what you prefer. At this stage Xbox One will have the usual Forza and Halo off the top of my head, where as the PS4 will have Uncharted 4 etc. Both will have all the same and identically performing sports games. There are already Xbone packages without Kinect bundled that will save you a bit of coin. If you have a 360 slim or PS3 slim you will be able to trade it in at EB for $100 if it's an older one instead of the 80 or 90 they would normally offer, or they'll give you the better value price if it's a newer type (for example they gave me $132 for my 320gb 360 slim). At the moment at EB there is currently a couple bundles if you do that console trade in. With a slim trade in you can pick up the Xbone with 3 games and NO kinect for $398. Really awesome deal IMO and a steal if you aren't going to play your old console anymore. As long as it is a slim though. Don't think there is a similar PS4 deal at the moment seeing as Microsoft have had to go early in this regard due to Sony blowing them away in sales. As for what's under the hood yes you're right in that the PS4 is slightly more powerful and at this stage some developers have said they are finding it easier to work with and can squeeze more juice out of, but it's early stage and I bet in a couple years there will be bugger all difference. What this means is that the less powerful console will just hold back the potential of the same game on the more powerful one since developers try to streamline development. It's the exclusives where first party developers will push the respective consoles to their limits. As far as I know a PS4 will still set you back $549 and that is just the basic console package (of course trade your old gear into EB and take a chunk off that price).

I'm not necessarily a PS fanboy but have always been a little more PS inclined (always follow PS news, sub to the Aussie PS mag etc) but have always owned an Xbox as well because I'm a gamer first, fanboy second. There hasn't been much reason to own both consoles to date so I only got my Xbone the other day and haven't had a big play around yet. Just personally I don't find the Xbone dashboard as user friendly as PS4's or even the old 360 one for that matter, and the real cheapo bluray drive they put in to keep the cost down is really obvious when it comes to install times. In the PS4 you can stick a game in and wait no more than a minute for it to install to the HDD. The Xbone you need to stick it in and go do something else for a while. I know it's novelty as developers don't care about it, but the Xbone's Kinect is pretty high tech stuff. Mine is set that it recognises my face and will log me into my account. It also needs my face to verify online purchases and things like download tokens and Xbox live sub that have a serial printed on them that you normally enter to activate also come with a QR code and it takes all of 1 second to flash the QR in front of the Kinect and it registers the product. Awesome stuff.

Keep in mind that Sony have also switched to a subscription for online content like Microsoft. 12 months of PS+ will set you back about $65 and I think it's around the same for 12 months of Xbox live gold.

Yeah I reckon if I had my time again I'd still buy it. Still worth the 50-60 odd dollars but well below the hype and expectations.

Yeah the downgrading of value is the only issue for me but I'm still getting some worth out of the ps3 so I don't want to part with that.

Ok gamer geeks, PS4 or Xbox one?

Have heard the PS4 is more powerful and gets a better graphics boost hence the new version xbox ones are coming without Kinect.

Without having the Xbox, I haven't been disappointed with the PS4 and as always a xbox fan boy until not to long ago.
On the kinect thing I don't know if I misheard but I think someone said the kinect takes up X% of functional power but without it that power doesn't even get used. Can't remember where I heard it so can't search it for verification

PS4 has released bundles but not sure about with trade ins. The ps+ annoyed me though as I always used ps3 more cause of the free online. Although on WD's I can still do the online hacking and I haven't got ps+ yet (will wait until I have a game that's worth getting online for)

cheers dwaino, a bit to weigh up. I have a 360 slim so likely to do a trade-in. The eb trade in deal looks like the bomb  :thumbsup. Im not really massively into any of the exclusives to the point where I'd pick one over the other based on it, moreso looking at the gaming quality overall. Like you said though, in a year or 2 there'll likely be nothing in it as developers work it out.

Theres a fair difference in size of consoles, ps would be easier to move around and take on holiday/friends etc, and I like the fact it loads a lot quicker.

On the other hand, like what you said about the Kinect. Further to that, as home entertainment gear, the xbone seems to have it over ps? and yep I already have xbox live gold sub.

As I understand it, youre right regarding the Kinect power thing, removing it wont do anything extra for current games. The way it can be utilised is with developers enabling their future games to get more out of the console.

One massive issue with the Xbone is that much more of the RAM is put aside for the operating system than the PS4 does. The Xbone is behaving a lot like Windows 8 in that there are tiles, and once you open stuff like settings, friends lists, games and apps tabs, and then a game, all those processes remain active until you manually close them. While it has memory set aside to do these things it seems like a waste and surely sucks some performance power from the games. There PS4 behaves like the PS3 in that trophies, friends, parties etc are built into the dashboard so you won't be opening a new tile/tab, and if you want to start another process it won't let you unless you close the game or whatever it is you are doing.

Physically the Xbone is a monster, about as big as an old school VHS player. Microsoft aren't taking any chances this time an entire half of the top of the case is set aside for cooling and there are large vents all along the side. In my man cave my Xbone sits on a table next to the TV, I don't think I would like to chuck it in an enclosed slot like in an entertainment unit. The PS4 on the other hand is slimmer and feels a little more robust. The PS4 can be put vertical with a stand and saves a lot of space. A mate at work isn't a massive gamer but likes to play, but he uses his Xbone as his media hub, connected to his computer and an external drive to play movies and stuff and by the sounds of it does the job pretty well.

At this stage if I had to recommend one over the other I think I would have to say the PS4. Like their new motto says, it really does seem more "for the gamers." But if you got an Xbone honestly it's never ever going to ever be a problem or seem underwhelming. For anyone that doesn't care either or, then just decide with your wallet.

Trying to catch up with E3, hard with the time zones. Things that interest me so far

GTA V to PC, XB1 and PS4 port: keen to see how well it looks. Already handled great. What might have me keen a second time around is that your GTA Online progress carries over.
Farcry 4: I loved Farcry 3. The trailer was awesome but I really need some gameplay
Assassin's Creed Unity: I want to see more. Just looks like a prettier version of what we've seen. ACIII really did something different with the semi-open wilderness and the sailing, then Black Flag and being able to roam the entire Caribbean was unreal. This series will die the moment they don't bring anything new to the table.
Bloodborne: I need to see some gameplay. I love what From Software do. They're taking gaming back to what it should be (though a little too punishing at times). Not big on horror but will follow this one.
Uncharted 4: Just a reveal. Fingers crossed the recent departures from Naughty Dog don't hurt this game. Great series that has only gotten better and massive expectations from this one.
Rise of the Tomb Raider: I did really enjoy the reboot, in fact I re-bought the PS4 version but still getting through my newer backlog first. Would have been perfect if there were a little more tomb raiding and a little more open world for exploration. A bit less whiney would be great too.
Halo Masterchief collection: Reckon I'd play through Halo 1-4 again if I had some time between other games.
Mass Effect 4: Seems pretty early but it's my favourite franchise so I can't wait to hear more on this.
Little Big Planet 3: ...yeeeeeeeessssssssssss
Forza Horizon 2: The only racing game I'm really into. The seamless multiplayer looks awesome.

Games already on my raider that E3 has just made me want more of:
Sunset Overdrive
Destiny
Dragon Age: Inquisition
Witcher 3
Oddworld New n Tasty

E3 trailers of Fifa 15 and NHL 15 look cool and I'll get them like I always do, but just looks the same old same.

Testing out my new game capture card with a Wolfenstein new order level https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5uzDFF0nGA

Eventually the plan is to have a decent gaming channel going but  just getting the hang of capturing, settings, editing etc.

Pretty good effort dwaino. Games looks good but the AI looks a little dumb as who wouldn't be alerted by a laser cutting through a metal chain only 30 feet away?
Title: Re: Xbox One

Poor level to show the game off. Some of the later missions in tight corridors and lots of shooting, blood and gore would have been better. I had only just got the Elgato game capture so wanted to just test it on the next thing I played to get an idea on capturing, quality, size and YouTube rendering. I split that video into 3 parts roughly 6mins each and they took 2-3 hours each to get on to youtube. That was over wifi and at 1080p. I compared that 1080p video to other gaming vids in 720p and in the normal youtube window there was absolutely no difference. I'm in the process of capturing a few games before I practice editing in a third party editor (currently looking at movavi video editor as it's a good price once off, would get adobe premier but not keen on the subscription model) and creating a teaser trailer of what my channel will be about. I will probably make my first review on either the new Abe's odyssey (new and tasty,  remake of the original) or the remaster of The Last of Us, both due out end of next month. Gives me plenty of time to practice. After that I'll be looking at doing a weekly wrap of gaming news.

This is the part of the house I have been relegated to  :lol I don't do a lot of online gaming on the PC so it is on wifi at the moment. Usually stretch over an ethernet cable from the powerline adapter behind the xb1/ps4 when I want to play some diablo 3 or something.

I'll work on some Forza 5 footage for you if you want ;D Forza Horizon 2 soon which I really can't wait for

The Wolfenstein footage was on PS4, recorded in 1080p at max quality settings. Been looking at other people's videos and noticed they weren't as clear. So this time I kept it 1080p but dropped the quality. In the regular Youtube window quality is fine. Only at full screen does it not quite look as crisp but it looks like this is what everyone else done.

This time I have used Dead Rising 3 on Xbox One. The first half an hour of gameplay but I chopped some cinematics to get two 10min parts. I was a few chapters into the game but stuffed around and missed some side missions. Dead Rising being a 'timed' game I saw it a good excuse to reset the story but I didn't realise it would keep my stats and unlocks.... so my character is wearing a welding mask and fireman boots that I equipped on my old game  :lol

Here you go Tiga. Bathurst in a Hyundai Genesis  :lol

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBQckjso9_0&feature=youtu.be

couldn't for the life of me pull together 2 tidy laps when I knew I was capturing it. One cool feature with Forza 5 that they will be sticking with for Horizon 2 and I imagine from here on out is 'Drivatar'. You no longer race plain old AI. Instead the more you race a track the more it learns how you drive. Once you completely sync your Drivatar to a track it will then become available to anyone playing that track. So when you race a track it is actually against learned Drivatars of other people and that's why their names appear above the other cars that I'm racing.

:lol I just burned through the levels to get the medals and unlock new tracks. Got a fair few gold early on but stuff me some of those later ones are tough. I think I finished one with like 120 restarts lol.

I kind of wish it didn't have tricks. They are unnecessary outside of the handful of trick levels and some people use them to cheat to set new times.

I've been on a Fifa 14 binge. My FUT is in div 6 in single player and getting tough vs mostly world class opponents. Been playing a lot of pro clubs with my mates too. We're about to get relegated from div 4 I think  :'(

Besides that I've been squeezing in some Tomb Raider. I think the new Abe's odyssey is nearly out, The Last of Us remaster at the end of the month then it is a busy back end of the year with new Fifa and NHL 15, Destiny (hhnnnngggg!), Middle Earth shadow of Mordor, Driveclub, Dragon Age inquisition (hnnnnnngggggg!!!), Metro redux, Diablo III, Farcry 4, Assassin's Creed unity, and some how have to squeeze in Sunset Overdrive and Forza Horizon 2 on Xbox One. Probably missed a few here. I've got most of these on preorder but for the first time in a long time I think I'm going to have to put stuff aside and plan how I tackle this cluster of releases ;D

I've got this bad boy on preorder for next February

Yeah I'm going through them pretty quick but having a bit of fun making sure I get the golds so have done a couple of the later ones a couple of times to say the least ;D. Haven't seen the cheating but that's a damn shame.

Haha had FIFA 14 on ps3 so won't be playing any sport games until the new ones come out on ps4. Can't wait for 2k15 though not that I expect it to blow the older ones away but would just be nice to have a sport game on the ps4 that I can just waste time on.

Seen Tomb Raider a few times and everytime I toss up whether to get it and end up walking away, just can't get myself to get it but always stop and have a look  :lol. Will probably try and wait it out for 2k15 before I get any more games then I'll get Destiny as it was one of the ones I was keen on before even getting the console.

Bring on a new God of War ;D

Fifa 14 on ps4 is a different kettle of fish to fifa 14 on ps3. It is on the new Ignite engine and completely different mechanics. But yeah so close to 15 just wait.

I have 2k14 which is awesome. My worry with 2k15 is they will crowbar VC in more again like they did from 13 to 14. I won't support a game littered with micro transactions. I'll admit I have bought a few FUT packs with real money but I play it a bit and it's the best way to get the best players.

Tomb Raider looks fantastic but if you played it on ps3 or 360 then it's not necessary to play again. I grabbed it on special and it's a cheap way to grind out some trophies.

When Destiny is out we'll have to join up some time. Most of my mates are on different times during the weeks because of night shifts and stuff so we usually only catch up online on the weekends, but if you don't have anyone else playing Destiny to party with then more than welcome to tag along with us ;D

Not sure if it'll be the same as 2k13 but I think the VC can be avoided if you start it without being online? Or something along those lines. I still just stick to 2k12 because I've spent so long getting my giant center to a decent enough level that I couldn't be bothered doing it over again ;D

Truth be told I haven't played Tomb Raider since PS1, well I did download the PS1 version on my PS3  ;D

Sounds good, not many of my mates have PS4 yet although slowly they are getting onto it.

The VC is the only way to upgrade skills. But in 2k14 they also made it a requirement in GM mode which peed everyone off.

Makes sense of you know your gamer speak  ;D

Ps3- playstation 3
Ps4- playstation 4
Ignite- EA Sports' new sports game engine
2k14- NBA 2k14. People generally refer to 2K's basketball games by their year, 2k12, 2k13, 2k14 etc.
VC-  Virtual Currency. You can earn VC in 2k's games but naturally they make it hard, encouraging you to buy it with real money.
FUT- Fifa Ultimate Team. The most popular game mode in Fifa which is based on earning coins for playing games and using those coins to buy packs (like a pack of cards) which will contain everything from players to uniforms to consumables.
Trophies- Playstation equivalent to gamerscore (achievement points) on Xbox

I did a quick google search last night seeing how people got their codes and lots of people having issues with it already in use. From what I understand the beta testing is capped and the codes are first in, best dressed. Either they stop accepting codes at a certain point or they duplicate some keys. I've ruined the experience of a few games after beta testing them. So no fuss if I can't. I look forward to opening the box at launch and checking it out for the first time ;D

EB Southland printed me out a beta code tonight. Just checked my email and EB World sent me a code today too. I have two now lol. I entered one into the redemption part of the Bungie site and now it says I will be emailed a code when they become available. Is that the process you did?

Yep did it on the bungie site after linking my PSN with it and when I entered the code told me it's already been used. Got another one at the lady at JB told me not to put it in until the release because it can't be used before then ::). Post by: dwaino on July 15, 2014, 12:06:53 AM
That's the one  :thumbsup Australia is a part of Europe when it comes to anything PSN.

I'm passing the time with some heavy FIFA Ultimate Team action. Keeping me busy until the new games are out. Current squad is pretty boss:

Full Bundesliga squad (since before world cup, no band wagon! ;D)
4-2-3-1 wide formation

ST: Aubameyang
LM: Reus CAM: Draxler RM: Farfan
CDM: Bender CDM: Javi Martinez
LB: Alaba CB: Subotic CB: Howedes RB: Piszczek
GK: Weidenfeller

Bench is strong so I can easily rotate my squad to keep them fresh and 0 effect to chemistry. Have some decent blokes like Ginter, and Elias on the bench but that 11 is clearly my strongest starting squad but I also have Blaszczykowski on the pine and sometimes don't know if he is a better starter than Farfan. Blaszy is quicker, but Farfan has slightly better dribbling and passing and is one of my weapons since I play wide a lot.

Currently sitting in Division 4 in online single player seasons. Starting to really struggle. Fell 2 points short of promotion last night. I can usually beat or draw at worst against the World Class teams but Legendary is deadly and I have only ever beaten Legendary AI teams a handful of times. Have a number of draws but not enough to get me a promo. Struggling big time in the current season though so will probably get relegated. Sick of online seasons against other players though. Just about everyone picks 4-3-3 and nearly all their front 3 consists of any combo of Robben, Lewandowski, Reus, Messi, Neymar and they just spam lobbed through balls and run on to them with pace. Total scumbag way to play. Only on rare occasion do I find anyone who plays properly with passing and build up.

Bit of a delay but didn't play much of the beta. Didn't want to potentially ruin the release so I held off ;D. Unfortuantely I haven't had any games to play on it so it's been getting a bit neglected but once Destiny and NBA 2k15 come out it'll get a nice work out

Just changing the pace for a bit, does anyone play PGA Tour 14 on XBox? I've been ripping through the courses and racking up the coins and I'm wondering if purchasing pin packs with coins is better than using them to upgrade player levels. Also if anyone can recommend a Country club to join for online play? I am in a club but the guys in it are either freaks or cheats. One guy has over 70 hole in one's!

But if it is anything like EA Sport's other games then buy the packs.

Dwaino its awesome! I think you will find that Golf games have come a long way since Links and Jack Nicklaus games of the 90's. You can even play your shots now using XBox Kinect.

Looks peaceful. The bro in law is quite an excellent golfer IRL and plays golf games a lot. Quite a lot of games out the next few months but maybe next year if there is quiet patch I may give a golf game a shot again.

FIFA 15 next week. Already been trying to plan my new Ultimate Team. Can't wait, the demo of the nexy gen version is brilliant. More organic and less arcade.

I'm still struggling on Fifa14 so I'd hate to see how bad I would be on 15.  :banghead I love Fifa, I just can't quite get my fingers to press the controller button combo's quickly enough.
Though put me in Battlefield on a PC with a keyboard and mouse and I'm shooting jets out of the sky with a tank.

I'm not great with skill moves in FIFA. I only know a couple as a last ditch effort to get out of trouble in some situations. Instead of tricks just precision dribble. Don't sprint because you will lose the ball, instead just short burst, keep control, and precision dribble around markers using LT/L2.

Title: Re: Xbox One

Major ones off the top of my head are The Order (ps4) this week, Witcher 3, Battlefield Hardline, Batman Arkham Knight, Project Cars,  the annual sports games and there is a bunch of stuff that is tentative this year like Uncharted 4 (doubt it though).

Not sure how far Halo 5 is off and I'm also looking forward to the new Xenoblade on Wii U.

At the moment I'm juggling Evolve, a bit of Don Bradman cricket and the zelda games on 3ds as well as squeezing in some gta online and season 2 of Diablo 3 (pc).

Depending how much the heists boosts my interest in GTA again I may not get it on PS4. Other than that and maybe Don Bradman cricket I don't have a lot of interest in any games. Apart from sport games I've been pretty eh about anything. Maybe get DBZ as well, see what it's like closer to but recent videos have made me consider it.

Has been a little average. I got gta again because my friends did. Looks great on ps4. I've got Don Bradman cricket and the career mode is fun, I got it to support Big Ant more than anything though in the hope of another AFL game. Witcher 3 is my big game this year. RPGs have been a bit slim pickings lately  :-\

Hanging out for Battlefield Hardline.

Reskinned BF4 and the first BF not made by Dice, instead by Visceral Games who are a quality studio but are known for Dead Space. Could be fine for anyone who missed BF4 but plenty are dubious at the moment.

Speaking of flops, stuffing The Order  :banghead xb1 really winning me over on exclusives so far. Forza Horizon 2 and Sunset Overdrive are rippers.

Got sucked into grabbing Hardline a couple weeks ago to play with mates. 64 player conquest is a laggy mess full of the usual candidates like chopper whores and campers, but blood money is a great game type. I think the game handles better but imo doesn't feel like a fully fledged battlefield. Just feels short on weapon and vehicle variety. But at least ships with a half decent campaign and I already managed to plat it. Also platted Sleeping Dogs after I couldn't resist it on the PS store a few weeks back for 18 bones.

Currently giving Borderlands collection a workout but the star right now is definitely Bloodborne. Certainly an acquired taste but nearly game of the generation so far. Just counting down to Witcher 3 before the end of year rush of sports games. Will quite possibly give FIFA a miss this year, just not enough variation from year to year. I skipped nba2k15 for this reason, so looking forward to 16 since I haven't played since 14. Same goes for Madden too. EA dropped the ball (puck) on the last nhl so will steer real clear of the next one.

As of late I've lost a lot of interest in most games. Nothing has stuck out for me and made me want to buy it. I may get Farcry 4 when it's a bit cheaper. $57 isn't bad but I don't know how keen I am so I can't justify the purchase.
Title: Re: Xbox One
Post by: dwaino on April 07, 2015, 04:54:21 PM
Know them feels. This is by far the worst generation launch I can remember. There is just hardly anything to play. I've been lucky in that I'm an RPG nut so Dragon Age was great and have Witcher 3 next month but has been slim pickings.

Farcry 4 is decent. If you have played 3 then definitely wait for a price drop as it isn't a whole lot different but it is a really solid game. Assassin's creed unity is a great return to the AC2 style that they have drifted away from if you're into those games.

EB should start their mid year sale in June so probably wise to hold on.

Never played any Farcry's so at least it will all be new to me. Have heard plenty of good things on the series as a whole so hopefully it's alright. Never really enjoyed AC though. When I can't bring myself to finish the first one I can't justify getting any of the later ones although I have heard they are better.

Did the first one with a mate then 4 of us tried doing the second, but one of our mates kept disconnecting which failed the mission. I haven't returned since because it sounds impossible to do with randoms. GTA is just my go to game in between other games but lately we have been squeezing in a bit of Battleturd Hardline.
Title: Re: Xbox One
Post by: Yeahright on April 08, 2015, 12:05:44 AM
Yeah I've only had a chance to do it with randoms and I swear some of them are just wacko. Just been too hard to join up with mates because of conflicting schedules and one of them selling there PS3 (I still haven't got the PS4 version).

Do it. The guys that post on it are up on their stuff are pretty cool (and generally despise the rest of BF as well) so it's the best way to keep up to date with stuff and talk about games. It's pretty much the only place I visit and post now. This joint is a dump truck.

Be careful with Homefront, has reviewed arse and the last one was a flop. If you want eye candy then check out Uncharted 4. Best looking thing to ever come out on a console. It's a bit slow so you might get bored, I did by the end. I'm just going back through stuff like Just Cause 3 and Shadow of Mordor to get the platinums at the moment. Battlefield 1 looks cool. Not until October but I'm keen for a new Battlefield (eff CoD) and will be refreshing to be in a different era, WW1.

Yeah I was tossing up Homefront vs Uncharted but heard Uncharted is slow and has a lot of cut scenes so I'm going to take the punt on Homefront although it's pretty pricey. Shame about Homefront's reviews - I sort of avoided them especially now that it's out in the states. I heard it's a bit half way between Battlefield and COD as well, which like you I'm more into Battlefield than COD and it doesn't have PVP which works for me because I'm not all that into it.

Bit late to the party but been quite into Batman Arkham Knight. Kept putting off getting it since it first came out but finally did on the PS4 store winter sale and I regret not doing it sooner

Another game that interests me is the new Hitman. Tossing up whether to wait for full release or buy the periodic thing they've got out now.

Oh, and I hope the new south park game is as good as the old one :thumbsup

TBH I'm not totally sure. I jumped ship to PS because it was free for online which obviously isn't the case now with PS4 and xbone, but I just stuck with it. For a lot of people I know it's either the exclusive games (xbone has Forza, not really sure about PS) or they get what all their mates have.
Title: Re: Xbox One
Post by: dwaino on August 24, 2016, 07:53:25 PM
There are exclusives to either but there is little difference under the hood. They are just two different brands of the same thing and have to have some sort of parity so developers can produce the same games for both. At the moment the PS4 is slightly more powerful than the XB1 but with the PS Neo and XB Scorpio on the horizon the XB will take over. Might be a bit late though as Sony have smashed Microsoft in console sales. Sounds like consoles will be going the way of phones and tablets and stuff in that there will just be new iterations of them every few years (the Neo and Scorpio being the first reiterations of the PS4 and XB1). It's a great move IMO with the pace of hardware evolution (consoles are severely lagging behind PCs by the end of their life cycles) and it means games will forever be backwards compatible.

Games wise the rest of the year is going to be hectic after a massive drought. So mix coming out. Just getting my teeth into new Deus Ex. Early next year looks busy too.

Simply put I prefer the PS controller. Its not nearly as cumbersome and I've always felt the buttons had a better feel (excuse the pun). I've grown up with the PS (although I had a 64 as a kid) so I don't think I'll be changing it up unless the xboxs totally supersede the PS.

For a great laugh check out the South Park episodes called "Black Friday".

Commodore 64 - classic.  Bubble bobble, wonderboy, arkanoid, 1942, wizard of war, international karate +, boulder dash, summer games, winter games, giana sisters, leaderboard, pitstop, barbarian, buggy boy, california games, yie ar kung fu.  Great games.  When you had to press play on the cassette player and watch the colour screen for a few minutes while it loaded.  Sometimes you'd get the error message and you'd have to rewind and start again lol.  Proper gaming experience.

Interesting. The ps4 controller is definitely improved but I hated to ps3 one. Xbox has always had better controllers IMO until now they are pretty much just take what you prefer

The DS3 felt too light and the sticks had very little resistance. I was a bigger fan of the 360 controller and I probably still prefer the XB1 controller over the DS4. DS4 is certainly an improvement though. Bigger, feels more robust and the sticks have better resistance.

What got me was the triggers didn't concave on the PS3 controller which was frustrating

Any in particular you look forward to? I sort of fell out of it for a while but still played my sport games a bit.

There's the standards like Battlefield 1, FIFA 17 which will be now be using the Frostbyte engine (the demo should be out any week now), Tomb Raider on PS4 as the XB1 timed exclusive is finished. The Skyrim re-release is one I'm looking forward too, more so idiot another excuse to play it even though my PC still pushes it harder (i5-4690, GTX980). Next year two huge ones should drop, Horizon Zero Dawn (ps4 exclusive) and Mass Effect: Andromeda.

That shitted me too. I actually used Afterglow controllers for PS3. I have big hands so the DS3 was always too awkward. The Afterglow controllers were shaped like 360 ones. I'm having no dramas with the DS4 though, but I still think the XB1 controller is the most comfortable. I would happily play either console full time but all my friends play PS so I stick with it to play together. I am getting attached to my trophy count though  ;D
