Title: Chris Newman on the Sunday Footy Show
Post by: one-eyed on May 26, 2013, 12:14:52 PM
Newy was just interviewed on the Sunday Footy Show...

* Most of our skill errors last night were unforced. We aren't playing to the standard needed to play finals.

* Better players need to step in big games.

* No doubt we're a better team than last year; it's just the bigger games. Against Pies and Cats we stayed with them for half a game but couldn't keep the intensity up. We need to get better at that.

* Asked about our defensive pressure? We're good at getting the ball back off the opposition. Been working on pressure around the stoppages. Essendon showed us the way last night.

* Vlastuin - very mature head for a young guy. Very impressive.

* Skill errors started in the back half; a lot of to-ing and fro-ing. Need to take the game on more as that's when we play our best footy. Browny showed vision from behind the goal of Jacko with the ball in defensive 50 looking for options and no one upfield was moving or offering leads despite open space in the centre of the ground.

* Criticism comes with expectation. We want that expectation as it means we're improving.

* Eagles game next week is a chance to get away. Subi a big ground which we play well. If we get to 6-4 by the BYE then that would be a good start to the year.

* Asked about playing without the captaincy? Fine about it. He is someone who worries about things so he sleeps better at nights now and can concentrate on his own game.

Malakies.
Senior player with limited leadership qualities.
Another feel sorry story from the RFC.
Will break Michael Tuck's games record for malakies in finals.

Newy should retire
Is the least of our problems!

rubbish. He is absolutely part of a major problem at RFC.

the time to retire was in 2012 just like the time when Richie Vander left the Hawks.

The problem with supporters and the club is everyone likes to isolate a game, like last night and say he should stay as he played well.

who cares how he performed last night lets look at his last few years. He provides us no leadership, no drive from half back, no defensive qualities. He has become a A grade list clogger

Disagree with you. Newy has been down this year but overall has served us well. Puts his body on the line each week and the playing group respect him. He is no way a list clogger. Guys like Nahas, Jackson, McGuane and White are list cloggers.

Who would you replace him with?
Last week it was Matt Dea who wasn't the answer

Play Dea for the rest of the year and he might surprise you.

Playing group and coach respect Jackson and look where that is getting us.

Maybe if Dea and griffiths we given the amount of chances than some of our spuds get we may find a player here or there.

Arnott, Mcbean Elton ahead of Newman to be honest. If your going to play Newman try him in a forward pocket he couldn't do any worse than this disaster that Williams is developing down there.

Spot on Mark Williams our forward coach is horrible!
