Title: Houli on RSN this morning
Post by: Go Richo 12 on May 29, 2013, 09:19:40 AM
* Disappointing effort on Saturday night, lacked defensive pressure

* Too many turnovers in the defensive half, plan was to control the ball and deny the Bombers opportunities from turnovers but this did not work

* Tigers played safe and structured football but lacked the ability to adapt to other styles once this system falls down

* Not enough pressure in the middle, on ballers needed to adapt to their ruckman getting first hands on the ball. Struggled in the ruck as we only had one genuine ruckman compared to their two.

* It was mentioned pre game by the group that they needed win these big games, five clubs vying for bottom two spots of the eight so we need to start winning these games.

* Missed Ellis ( will return after the bye) as he is the fittest bloke on the list, also miss Conca (probably right to go this week but play it safe till after the bye)

*Injuries have not allowed the team to play consistently with the same players even though our depth is good

* Houli happy with his own form, has been working on the defensive aspect of his game

I think that is all of it.

Wow.  I wonder what stroke of coaching genius you would need to pull to combat this?   :whistle

I heard that they just let the tape play when Houli is doing interviews. He doesn't even have to show up.

These are the interesting points for mine. So they tried to chip it around to maintain possession and deny them additional turnovers but basically only achieved in delaying the turnovers and hindering our own natural game in the process. That was a poor mistake tactically. Coach/s have to take the blame here.

'On ballers needed to adapt to their ruckman getting first hands on the ball' - if this is not an admission that Maric and Vickery are under performing at present I don't know what is. I have a sneaky suspicion that the Big O might receive a recall this week. :shh

Missed Ellis is the fittest bloke on the list??????????????????????

A 19 year old 2nd year player is the fittest bloke on the list.

If this was true, you would want to sack all the fitness staff and the coach and start fresh immediately.  What an embarrassing statement.

Is true unplugged. Recorded all the fastest times for distance races over the preseason.

Funny.

If you see a 19 year old constantly jogging slowly behind the ball without an opponent, never getting to contests and struggling to kick 20 meters with any accuracy, it makes sense to question their tank.

The alternative which is true of many Richmond players is that he was cruising around looking for cheap kicks, scared of the contest and can't kick.

Good to see he was able to turn that around a bit against "Melbourne" but he has a long way to go before you could possibly say "we missed him".  Something seriously wrong with a football club if they are using the absence of 2nd year players as an excuse for their poor performance.  As serious a concern as 19 year old being the fittest player on the list.

I don't listen to Player interviews any more. For that matter I've wiped Talking Tigers as well. 30 years of talk is enough.

You could tell he'd put a lot of work into his fitness before he came to the club, it's not like he was a fat plodder. After the first couple seasons your unlikely to see much if any improvement in aerobic fitness

Main two fitness staff were replaced over the off-season.
Only fair to judge next year.

Brandon Usain Ellis Bolt.  That's pretty funny.  Bunch of slackers at Punt Road.  You can emu that all you like.

Sounds like they did sack the main two fitness staff.  Happy Times.

It’s life and death for Houli

Rebounding small defender, Bachar Houli, has taken a “life and death” approach to his role in Richmond’s backline this season.

Houli focused heavily on improving the defensive aspects of his game during the pre-season and, as we fast approach the halfway mark of the 2013 season, he is pleased with the progress he’s made in this area.

“I think I’ve come a long way defensively,” he said on ‘RSN’.

While that's good because our players size has been poor for years, on the other hand the new guys don't seem to have done much bulking up.  Griggs gas surely got thinner, jack hasn't put on weight as an older KPP should.  I'm not sold on this lot yet, maybe we sacked the wrong guys.

We didn't sack the main fitness guy Matt Hornsby, he quit. His 2IC was let go. All the others are the same
