Trent CotchinRichmond captain Trent Cotchin has signed a contract extension, which will see him remain a Tiger until at least the end of the 2015 season.
Cotchin was due to come out of contract at the end of this season, but the Club recently moved to extend his stay at Tigerland for another two years.
“I’m very excited. The Club’s going somewhere, and I want to be a part of the success that all involved with the Tigers crave,” Cotchin said.

Good news. But 2 yrs far from ideal.
-
He is saying to the club, you have two years to get into a GF or I am going to a club that is serious!

No he's not. He's saying I believe in the message I'm a part of spruiking.
-
Works perfectly for him, if we win a premiership before his contract is up he can retire :shh

He isn't saying that, you are.

Good result obviously.
In 2 years time, GC and GWS mega buck deals will be evened out with the rest of the comp. Cotchin isn't going anywhere now.

2years take him up to Restricted Free Agency.
So the length is not surprise at all
-
Cotchin, 23, became Richmond's youngest captain in more than 100 years when he took over from Chris Newman, and has won the club's past two best and fairest awards.
''Obviously you want to be locked into a contract as early as possible,'' he said. ''We want to keep the young group that we've got together now as close as we can over the next period of our careers, whether that's five or 10 years, and there's a lot of young guys that we do need to set the standard for.
''It's exciting. You look at the teams in the past - Geelong have been together for so long, and Sydney. They've all had success together because they've stuck as one.''

Think what you will and I will too, still reckon he will leave in 2 years if we don't look like getting a flag beyond that point. He has already said that's all he is waiting for, then he will leave football....
Great that he has signed but it should of been 5 years, like WP said in 2 years he is a free agent. Every club will want him then!!!
-
Glad he has resigned but would have liked it to be longer.

I think we can safely every club would want him now and he stayed
It was never going to be 5 years, from a purely business perspective of Free Agency it doens't make sense for him to sign for that long.
He wont leave but being a Free Agent whether it is as a Restristed or Non-Restricted FA, at the end of this new contract if just puts him a stronger bargaining postition that's all.
I just can't believe how the Club announced it. A press release sent out at 6.15pm? Strange

I was about to come and and say the same thing WP - Free Agency. Doesn't mean he will leave but gives him far more negotiation power during next round of contract talks. I worry about Cotch. Sounds like he is losing faith in his body and is losing a little motivation too. He might be finding the relentless additional load of work and responsibility that comes with being the club captain, a bit overwhelming atm. :-\

Didn't deserve anything more than two years.

Anyone know how much we are paying him.
His form has been pretty up and down this year. Have to question whether he is a great player, or just a good player surrounded by duds that comparatively make him look great.
-
smart move by him - obviously he will attract a higher price after winning next years brownlow medal.

Well firstly he renegged on the comment about quitting after we win a flag and secondly he clearly states in the article why he only signed for two years.
He also states that he wants to grow together with this group of players - at Richmond and build something ala Geelong. You don't say things like that if your heart isn't in it or if you plan on leaving the club or in fact the game itself in 2 years time.
-

Why? I can't be bothered reading the article

Said it keeps him on his toes in the second year. A long contract might create a bit of complacency..... of course he's not likely to say ' I'll be a restricted free agent in two years and would like to see what I'm worth on the open market before blackmailing Richmond ' ;D

Of course you don't, you don't say nasty things about anything or anyone do you.......you don't change your mind.........you love the club and will always be a one club player....its not about the money..... :lol :lol :lol......do you live on planet lovely.. :whistle
