Title: All-Australian side - No Tigers!
Post by: one-eyed on June 10, 2013, 03:14:08 PM
Matty Lloyd did his mid-season All-Australian side on the Sunday Footy Show yesterday and he didn't include any Tigers.

Was he right or wrong?

Morris

Lids would be the only one with a remote chance and I think that would be on the bench at best.

Morris, maybe Lids
FYI tigra Lloyd had Jeremy Cameron from gws at FF iirc  ::)
From memory had job, Kiran jack, hannebery etc.

imo Cameron will one day be a super player but no need to rub one out now...

I don't think anyone here does care too much but with a bye this weekend there's only so many times you can peruse other threads as there's been no action on field.

Matthew lloyd and like D'Arcy should go play soggy biscuit together

It's only round 10 / 11 for gods sake!!!!

What if Cotch for example plays the next 12 rounds and has 11 BOG???

In all honesty right now we have no-one as a lock for AA whereas last season I thought Lids, Cotch and jack were near certainties. Probably a good sign that our top liners aren't travelling quite as well as last season but we're better placed as a team.

By seasons end I think Cotch and Lids will squeeze in. When our full midfield is firing with Conca, Ellis, fit Foley and Tuck they will get off the leash and wreak havoc. Give me finals with no AA's and i'll happily take it

I wouldn't have thought Selwood , Sloane , Fyfe or Hodge have done enough.
You can't have two Adelaide midfielders in the team. They're not even in the eight !  In fact Douglas has been better than Sloane.
Oh and Lloyd is a numbskull

Connolly's is a bit of an Essendon love in though.  They aren't that good, though Carlisle (suspiciously?) grew humungous over the of season and has been monstering forwards.

The mid-year All Australian team
By Staff writers
afl.com.au
Wednesday, June 19, 2013

DURING the bye weeks, AFL.com.au journalists assessed the top performers in the first half of the season and submitted their own All Australian teams at the midway point.

We compiled each writer's selections and arrived at a collective All Australian line-up with players from 13 teams.

Now we brace ourselves to take the hits.

No Joel Selwood and we couldn't find a spot for Grant Birchall. There isn't a Tiger in the line-up and Travis Cloke missed selection too.

But let's focus on the positives.

Six-time All Australian Gary Ablett was a certainty.  Some argue he is staking claims as the game's greatest ever player.

Ablett was unlucky not to be named captain, but the performance of Jobe Watson under all sorts of pressure got him the nod.

Essendon joined the Sydney Swans as the only team with three representatives.

Carlton's Andrew Walker pipped Birchall and Richmond's Brett Deledio for the running half-back position. Jordan Lewis tagged Walker last week for Hawthorn, giving some indication of the respect held for him.

The absence of a Tiger is somewhat of an anomaly given Richmond is having its best season for a long time. However it reflects the team-first approach starting to seep into the line-up at Punt Road.

The Eagles' Josh Kennedy just held off Cloke for the full-forward spot. Both have kicked 34 goals. Both are having good seasons but Kennedy was perceived to have done so with less opportunity. It's fair to say there is no right or wrong in that call, just a decision that is certainly debatable.

And that's what we'll be doing as the season heads towards its climax.

That's when we'll know for sure whether the coach of the year title should be bestowed upon Fremantle's Ross Lyon.

But that question, as with most positions, remains open.

There is, as they say, a long way to go.

Agree, no tiges but a couple must have come close.

Eg Lids except for the hard tags and why is Kennedy ahead of dual coleman medalllist JR8 at FF - JR8 has been selfless this year and is still only 1 sausage roll behind leading the coleman race.

Hasn't Cotchin fallen down the pecking order - he just doesnt seem the same since he wrapped his leg around an oppenent and injured it.

bc its an award that distinguishes players amongst their peers. ...and would be nice to see some tigers recognised as amongst the best in the league. Seeing Harry O and the igniter Leon davis rob Lids of 2 x successive AA's has robbed Lids of the right to say 3xAA at 25 and on his way.  But having said that, now that the team is improving would take finals everytime and not give a poo about these awards  :cheers

Lloyd's updated All-Australian side:

B:   Nick Maliceski (Syd)          Luke McPharlin (Fre)       Jake Carlisle (Ess)

HB: Michael Hibberd (Ess)        Harry Taylor (Geel)          Luke Hodge (Haw)

C:   Daniel Hannebery (Syd)     Jobe Watson (Ess)         Jarrad McVeigh (Syd)

HF: Patrick Dangerfield (Adel)     Kennedy (WCE)?         Steve Johnson (Geel)

F:   Chad Wingard (Port)          Nick Riewoldt (StK)       Nathan Fyfe (Fre)

R:   Will Minson (WB)            Gary Ablett Jnr (GC)         Joel Selwood (Geel)

lol Sloane ahead of Deledio?

And Fyfe. His best footy is really good but based on performances at his own club Barlow and even Mundy have been well ahead of him this year. Roughead is one of the best players in the comp at the moment IMO and Lloyd sticks him on the bench with turds like Sloane and Fyfe on the park. If Lloyd was looking for the goal kicking mid type then you would reckon Dusty would be well in front of Fyfe this year.
