Astbury injured and will miss; Chappy possibly too(?); Morris had some tightness in his hammy before the game but played and a few boys looked sore at the end of the match (Vlastuin was iced up on the bench but had to go back on when Chappy went off).
Fire away ....
-
lets hope some boys at Coburg put their hand up tomorrow
-
Give Batch the weekend off, we'll need him next week.
-
Just Batch. Reckon everyone else will pull up fine.
-
Hardwick is confident the Tigers have the defensive depth to cover any potential losses despite admitting Dylan Grimes was "a good month away" from resuming, with Ben Griffiths, Todd Elton, Matt Dea and Jake Batchelor all possible inclusions according to the coach.
Nick Vlastuin also copped a kick in the shin, but is not expected to miss next week's clash against St Kilda.

Batch and elton both may get a chance :clapping
-
With Chaplin and Astbury injury worries, and Grimes not fit, I fear McGaune.
McGaune in the forward line is bad.
McGaune in the backline is very bad. :-\
We have Griffiths, Elton (Dea, Bachelor). Please no McGaune :pray

Griffiths is easily Larry, always reacting instead of being proactive :lol
-
McGaune 26/27 yoa
---
Griffiths 21 yoa
Elton 20 yoa
-
Patty Mills 24 y/o
What does that have to do with the price of rice in China?

McGaune is a proven stooge.
While the other are also stooges they might get better.

Tuck?
-
Batch in for Astbury is the obvious choice. Griffiths would be next in line if we need a tall matchup or Dea is we need a smaller/mobile defender imo.
-
MDea?
Unjustly dropped again.
In the reserves best again.
-
Tuck?
Still a coupe of weeks would expect him to comeback is the VFL
-
Was thinking Vlaustin looked tired then later on heard he was getting iced up. Just give him a rest no need to break him.

Probably has a dirty big bruise on it and they want to check if there are any cracks, or if it is at risk of cracking by training on it.

He certainly was limping after the game and struggling to run in the last qtr

Got a kick to the left shin in the 3rd Quarter. Didn't look right after that.

Yep, reckon they would have subbed him if not for Astbury's hamstring problem
-
Gee you would think that with the way we picked up Chaplin there are some other possible older recruits available. Watching Lake in the week end I wouldn't moind slipping him into the team. Did we miss an opportunity there? Imagine if we had recruited him as well??

Cost the dawks a first rounder. Cya Vlas.
Chappy cost us nuttin.

And another mature kpp back would hamper development of Grimes. Astbury. France etc.
First back 6
Morris. Grimes. Chaplin.
Houli. Raaance. Ellis.
2nd.
Dea. Darrou. Astbury.
Helbig. McIntosh. Bachelor.
Griffiths. Mcbean. Elton can play key back.

The Barometer - Round 14
Herald-Sun
Tuesday, June 25
RICHMOND
ON THE BLOCK: Close watch this week on key defenders Troy Chaplin and David Astbury. Damien Hardwick says scans cleared Chaplin of structural damage after he twisted his knee late in Saturday night's win against the Bulldogs. Astbury was subbed out with a "minor hamstring strain". But given the injury history of both, the club won't take any risks. In terms of form Nick Vlastuin had his first poor game and Matty White kicked a goal but is a regular in this section.
ON THE CUSP: Not much to cheer about from Coburg's 44-point loss to Casey Scorpions, although with tall backs needed it's noteworthy that Jake Batchelor, Matt Dea and Ricky Petterd all got through their returns from injury unscathed. Dea might be first in line for a call-up.
AL PATON'S FORECAST: Richmond got the job done with minimum fuss against the Dogs and although there is talk the Tigers are only beating teams below them on the ladder, the higher you get the more teams there are beneath you to beat. St Kilda this week offers another chance to consolidate a place in the eight. Get on Jack Riewoldt to kick a bag - he's booted 15 in his past two games against the Saints.

Will be interesting the decisions they make this week. Do they rate Saints and the importance of this game - if so they may play Chaplin even if he is not 100%, if not then they won't risk him even if he is near full fitness.
My early call is they will rest Chaplin, Astbury but play Vlaustin.
They will replace them with Batchelor and Dea (Nahas in as sub if Flossy rested).
Am worried they may stretch us for height though....

They have been playing Stanley forward but I think we may be in luck and they have to play him back with no Fisher and Simpkin. Means they'll have Kosi and Riewoldt to stop. Griff and Rance for me. Batch can play 3rd tall.

RICHMOND - In the Mix
Troy Chaplin faces an uphill battle to prove his fitness after hurting his knee last week against the Bulldogs while David Astbury injured his hamstring and will also be monitored. There are reinforcements nearing availability with Jake Batchelor, Matt Dea and Ricky Petterd making returns from injury in the VFL last weekend. Shane Tuck is getting closer to returning from the shoulder injury he sustained in round seven. - Jennifer Phelan

-
If Astbury and Chaplin are both out then bringing in Bachelor who plays tall will not be enough. We'l still be too short down back. Griff is one option but he hasnt been doing much for Coburg. We may seriously have to bring in Maguane to play in defense. Bachelor and Rance will not suffice IMO.
-
McGaune is crap as a FF for coburg. it would be two steps backwards to play him in defence.
if astubry and chaplin must be griff and Bachelor/Dea
-
McGaune is crap as a FF for coburg.
Is he? Kicked a few two weeks ago against Collingwood I believe. What's Griff's from been like?
-
The radio commentators made out he was average including missing a goal from a one meter our, and not contributing to play when the game was on the line.
We have a backline with smarts and skill. McGaune would be awful
-
This is what Tim Clarke, who is usually overwhelmingly optimistic about our players, had to say about Griff on the weekend:
"Got moved back due to injuries. Lacked touch defensively and will need to improve if he’s going to play in this area."
Personally, i'd prefer to bring in Luke.
Really hope Chappy comes up.
-
Yep looks like Luke is the worst of a bunch on awful choices. What about Elton? Been played down there but people don't seem to optimistic. Beaner used to play down there, worth a punt even though his being playing forward
-
Just have to bite the bullet and not risk Chaplin.
In (Out)
Dea (Astbury) Batchelor (Chaplin)
Reasons:
We will have a very small defence on Saturday which will be a worry.
Rance obviously will take Riewoldt and not sure who will take Kosi or any unknown tall? Batchelor?
They have small dangerous fowards which we can match against and maybe need Newman down there.
Seems like Deledio will continue to play his new half-back flank position too.
Just Win Richmond! :gotigers
-
How about bringing in say Batchelor and Stephenson use Stephenson in the ruck and have Maric play 1 kick behind the play.
-
I don't know that the Saints are all that well off for height that needs us to be panicked into silly selection decisions. They only have Stanley in defence, Riewoldt and Kosi in attack, and McEvoy as ruck. McEvoy must be some doubt after being a concussion sub last week, Stanley is average at best and Kosi is way past serviceable. We stretch them in our forward line much more than they do us and our run out of defence will expose their talls so I'm not stressed as much if Chaplin doesn't play this week.
-
Stanely was put back forward wasn't he?
-
I could be wrong but I thought he went back when Kosi came back in because they had no height at all in defence.
-
Why would you even bother manning up Kosi
He misses goals from the goal square
Concede the point and just run it out
-
Is Beau Maister available for the Aints?
Still think we will have too much firepower for them.
Save Chappy for Drew Petrie in Round 15.
-
Is Beau Maister available for the Aints?
Nope, out for 6-8 weeks bad hammy
-
Why would you even bother manning up Kosi

:lol so true let's man him up with McGoof and have a spud off in the pocket.

'Spud off in the pocket' sounds like something you do when you don't think anyone is looking.
-
....or hope someone is.....

:lol
-
Dimma said both Chaplin and Astbury will train today. Chaplin is a 90% chance to play this weekend.
-
Good news
-
how poor is our kpd stocks especially when one considers how ordinary rance is. yet there is no replacement for him. he can continue to fall over miss judge balls in the air get pantsed one on one forever, why? because theres no other option but play him. similar scenario with vickery isnt it. time to find or create other options dont you think then theres astbury who has done little but its my opinion we need to keep on playing him because hes is the only option and the only real back up when grimes come back. he has to be fast tracked but the question is will he make it. fail to get games into him and fail to find out quickly if he can make it and the kpd problem just gets bigger and bigger.
-
I think you will find Claw my good friend that the RFC is trying to make finals this year not gift games to spuds.
This may surprise you but not everyone wants our team to lose just so we can bitch and moan.

Claw, the smug that permeates through your posts suggests to me that you are a poo hot list manager and recruiter. It's a wonder to me why you havent got a gig at an AFL club, or even a lower-level club, as you seem to possess the ability to create the perfect list overnight. :huh
We know that our KPP stocks are not ideal at the moment. Over the last couple of years the club has turned the list from poor to competitive. The midfield is strong currently, with the potential to become unrivaled in the next couple of years. The next job is to get the KPPs to this level. To completely overhaul the list in this way takes time. Sit back, enjoy the ride. You'l develop a complex the way you're headed.
