Title: Worst game of football I have ever seen.
Post by: mat073 on July 14, 2013, 01:37:28 PM
Glad we won.
Very happy to be 10-5
Avoided being the laughing stock of competition ( just)
Tricky conditions at a " third world" ground.

However....can not remember watching a more putrid/ugly/horrible game of Australian Rules football . First time I have deleted a Richmond victory right off the IQ without a second viewing.

I remember we beat hawthorn once kicking only 4 goals back in 95...but that match was played in a swimming pool.

last years game against the dockers was worse......I vowed I would never ever go and watch us play against a Ross Lyon coached team but I will be there at punt road end next week

i concur, I said as much last night. Freo game was nowhere near as bad.

Im not sure if you went also but that stadium is a disgrace. The standard of play suited that pathetic stadium

I felt like i was at a music festival. Puddles and urine everywhere near the toilets as the lines were too big.

Lets not be dramatic.
Worst game of football we have seen and most would agree would be Round 1 2009.

Yes yesterday was bland as a game with few highlights but we won and given we needed to win after the Nought match and we had until yesterday never beaten GC winning ugly is better than losing ugly.

No wrong.

Worst game of football I've ever seen from both sides was yesterday.

It's easily to pick out games where we have been smashed but in those games one side played very well.

Yesterday was a great result for us but from a standard point of view it doesn't get much worse.

Definitely up there, I've tried thinking of a worse game of AFL I have watched (as in both sides, not a clinical thrashing) and one doesn't spring to mind. When we won I wasn't happy and I wasn't even relieved. I just said "thank ffff" and switched the telly over. Usually a Friday or Saturday win sets me up for a decent mood for the entire weekend but I got zero satisfaction from this one. Just glad we got the win and can move on.

Certainly amenities wise ground certainly not up to AFL standard.

And having been up there last year, thought the standard of the game this year was better than last year  :-\

Dockers and Swans have the ability to drag a game down to that sort of level

Terrible game to watch particularly when the commentators were death riding us the whole game. We decided to play the conditions like Gold Coast has done successfully over the last two years. You would have seen footage of Bluey addressing the GC boys before the game demonstrating the effects the wind and rain will have.

Both sides knew the Cairns ground to be like playing down at Port Melbourne on a gusty day. The wind and rain made for a very one way game so I was happy we played the conditions much more intelligently this time.

Really we were playing the ground rather than the Suns. Glad we will never have to play at that venue every again! :banghead

conditions were very difficult

and if we kicked straight  for goal this thread would not exist

we r out of form and won... should be happy about that

ground is spot on surface wise can tell you that, probably about etihad in size.
Conditions are difficult up there (both sides have to cope with it though)
Was a pretty terrible game and that was my response to several people on the game.
Mentally wise we were sh1tting our pants, GC played a crap flood ala Rossy lyon style game and one thing I did notice is DAMN they have a lot of talls and they're quite quick too, will be right up there in 2-3 years. We should be chasing one of those big kids.
And the game well being up there on my 3rd attempt was just about as metally fcked as the team and didnt enjoy the game much at all as a spectacle, but was p1ss damn happy when the siren went can tell you that!

Agree the surface is fantastic but for the fans it's sub-standard

Though the Roast Beef rolls were very tasty indeed  ;D

Ok I'll raise you Daniel if the criteria is a game we won and didn't get beat.
Worse than when Sanchez won us the game after the siren? :chuck
At least I felt relief after Saturday after Richmond v Melbourne in 2009 I felt nothing.

At least I felt relief after Saturday after Richmond v Melbourne in 2009 I felt nothing.

All we are talking about is the standard of play not the fact we won.

Of course we are rapt(actually relieved) more like it when they blew the siren. There are games where you are generally excited(blues rd 1) then there are games your like phew what a relief) that's how I felt Saturday

Conditions were terrible so that played a part

I thought the stadium and amenities were a disgrace and seeing blokes pee where people walk was enough

Anyway we don't have to see that hole again. Over to you Noight you will love it there guys

I agree that our form has been patchy....however we have still won 5 from 6 and we all would of taken that after the dreamtime debacle.
If I recall Chris Scott was complaining over the way Geelong were playing a month ago.
After 6 weeks of being the " hunted" looking forward to the credibility tests that are coming.
