Smashed that quarter. Stephenson near the end broke a 6 goal unanswered run of goals from the Blues.

Half-time

Coburg     2.1    3.1.19
N.Blues    2.3    8.11.59

All Blues that quarter, with Casboult in particular looking dangerous and kicking 2 massive goals from outside 50. Big O with the only Coburg goal.

Coburg goals: Stephenson, N.Maric, Carnell

N.Blues goals: Casboult 3, Bell 2, Wilson, Lambert, Duigan

In the 4th though the Blues have blown the margin out again with the first 4 goals  :P.

Title: Re: Coburg vs Northern Blues --- Sunday, July 28

Full time. Coburg go down by 59 points.

Coburg       9.6.60
N.Blues   17.16.118

Tough loss for Coburg after a strong start. Bench was diminished with Ben griffiths going down in the second minute with concussion, and the blues showed they had more run and polish.

All individual goal kickers: Carnell, Maric, Venditti, Elton, Nahas, Stephenson, Clifton, Helbig and Palazzo.

A bad on the injury front  :(. Dea, Edwards, O'Hanlon as well as Griffs (conc.) were done by 3/4 time with "various injuries" according to Coburg's twitter.

So I presume Coburg played the final quarter without being  able to make any interchanges  :P.

RICHMOND faces some injury concerns after four players emerged worse for wear from Coburg's 58-point loss to the Northern Blues at Preston City Oval.

Defender Matt Dea hurt his shoulder while Brett O'Hanlon and Ben Griffiths reportedly suffered concussions.

There was also concern over Aaron Edwards, with the former North Melbourne forward spotted on crutches post-match after hurting his shin.

In better news for the Tigers, Dylan Grimes played the first half in the reserves in his first game back from a foot issue for 14 possessions and seven marks.

Can't wait for Richmond VFL to come back!

Why because you think the results will be better?

Newsflash - they wont be as winning will not be the focus, development will be so the results will be about the same

Newsflash 2 - dont' use the argument that it will be better because it will all RFC players plus a couple of top-ups. That's clearly what we have this season with Coburg. It is basically the Richmond reserves with a couple of Coburg blokes making up the numbers, it's coached by a RFC coach with the RFC bascially controlling everything.

Only real difference will be the crowds, the jumper and song  ;D

List development

Look at C'woods VFL side, no VFL premiership there because it isn't their foucs

Look at the Geelong VFL side when they seniors have had injuries, they've struggled.

Also can tell you that geelong's focus at VFL level has always been player development and teaching the kids about the GFC club culture, results are not the most important thing, the premierships have been a bonus

All I am saying is that if people think that the RFC is going it alone at VFL level with the goal of winning VFL premierships then they are sadly mistaken. Winning isn't the clubs main focus; they have said this

And I am not sure how people think the results are going to be massively different next year when the Coburg side this year is bascially a RFC reserve side.

Coburg coach, Tim Clarke's summary of how the Richmond-listed players performed at VFL level:

David Astbury

Started very well in defence, taking a number of marks in the first quarter and helping set up our offensive play.  Was moved forward in the second quarter as part of his development, but was then shifted back again after Matt Dea injured his shoulder.  Is close to AFL selection.

Jake Batchelor

Had a tough day, starting on Carlton-listed player, Nick Duigan, who was the Northern Blues’ main lead-up forward.  Fought his way back through a couple of good contests, but needed to give the team more offensively.

Ben Darrou

Was solid in defence in his first game back from a broken jaw.  Played on resting Carlton-listed big men Casboult, Warnock and Mitchell at different stages and didn’t have a goal kicked on him.  Not far off his defensive best, but was a bit scratchy offensively.

Matt Dea

Started the game really well, cutting off the opposition’s transition and helping set up our offensive play.  Had 13 disposals to the midway mark of the second quarter, before being sidelined for the rest of the match with a shoulder injury.

Tom Derickx

Was okay in the ruck duels, however was beaten overall around the ground by Casboult and Warnock.  Took three strong contested marks, but needed more involvement in the match.

Aaron Edwards

On a tough day for forwards, he found himself in the midfield at stages, and even in defence, due to injuries.  The team’s overall performance didn’t help his performance, however his tackling and pressure on opponents was good.

Todd Elton

Was used both forward and back throughout the game.  Had some solid involvements, with the highlight being his three contested marks in the final quarter.  Needed more overall involvement, however.

Ben Griffiths

Lasted just five minutes before being carried off due to concussion.

Matthew McDonough

Had a very solid game through the midfield, picking up 20 contested possessions and 15 clearances.  Was one of our best players on a day where we were well beaten in the midfield.  Continues to improve in all areas of his game.

Robin Nahas

Picked up another 30 possessions, playing at half-back.  Helped set up our offensive play and the defensive side of his game improved, as evidenced by his seven tackles for the match.

Brett O’Hanlon

Started well, but then copped a heavy knock late in the first quarter. Struggled to get into the game after that and was subsequently ruled out with concussion before half-time.

Brad Helbig

Had a more contested game, but needed to have further involvement and impact.  Although dominated by the opposition midfielders, his pressure throughout was good.

Orren Stephenson

Battled well in the ruck contests, however, like Tom Derickx, was beaten by opponents Warnock and Casboult.

Steve Verrier

Played another solid game at half-back, providing the team with plenty of run and carry, despite not  getting as much space as the previous week.  Continues to make good progress.

Astbury must play this week.
Batchelor should have got a call up for Gunston this week but lol beaten by Duigan.  :lol :lol :lol :lol
Darrou should get a promotion soon. Though Grimes may come back before he gets a chance.
Dea was on target for about 35 touches at that rate. Too good for VFL.
Derickx. Beaten by Casboult and Warnock. Enough said.
Edwards is ordinary
Elton with 3 big contested marks. Yessss big man.  :clapping
Griffiths can't catch a break.
McDonuts yesssss little man  :clapping get him in DimSim
Nahas good on him for working hard but has had his chances this year. Get Donuts in.
O'Hanlon unfortunate he was concussed.
Stephenson just about done.
Verrier not going to make the step up.
Helbig probably has one more year if lucky. I like him but he's struggling.

i think at AFL level Dea does his defensive job really well but lacks some confidence in his attacking game. At VFL level his attacking game is very good and needs to have some confidence to apply it to afl. Getting promoted and dropped after a decent game won't help him.

I reckon he'd make a good 4th tall behind Rance, Chaplin and Grimes if he got the confidence you believe he needs. Batch and Dea make good depth

I wonder if one of our concussions was the result of Duigan striking? He's copped a two week suspension.
