Richmond players Daniel Jackson, Dylan Grimes sign contract extensions

RICHMOND will focus on getting a signature from Dustin Martin after two more key players signed new contracts today.

Daniel Jackson and Dylan Grimes have signed contract extensions that will keep them at Punt Rd until the end of 2015.

The news follows Jack Riewoldt's decision last week to knock back a big money offer from Fremantle to sign a three-year contract extension.

Other Tigers to have put pen to paper in recent weeks include Trent Cotchin, Alex Rance, Brandon Ellis, Nick Vlastuin, Chris Newman and Jake King.

"It’s encouraging to see that Daniel and Dylan, along with many of their teammates already this season, have committed to achieving team success at Richmond,” Richmond football manager Dan Richardson said.

Jackson has played every game this year, averaging 22 disposals, and is a strong contender for the club's best-and-fairest in his 10th season in yellow and black.

Grimes has played just 22 matches but is highly rated in the club and was added to the leadership group at the start of this year.

He returned from his latest injury setback in the VFL reserves last weekend and will step up to VFL seniors this weekend.

Martin is out of contract at the end of this season and could attract big offers from rival clubs.

Reece Conca and Shaun Grigg are also out of contract but are expected to re-sign soon.

Last week coach Damien Hardwick said the Tigers wouldn't overpay their out-of-contract stars.

"It's just part of the process of going through and getting the right dollar amount for everyone," he said.

"We're probably at a stage now where we don't have to overpay our players, whereas previously when we were a struggling club we had to keep the talent and pay them accordingly.

"Now we're at the stage where we have to manage our salary cap a lot better.

"We're certainly looking to keep our talent but also bring talent in to help us win.

"It's a very fine balancing act."

Can't see us losing Skullfist at this stage. The media love to get supporters worried to try and pressure clubs into paying overs. Half the time i believe its the Player Agents feeding the info to the journo's to get more money anyway.
