Post by: mat073 on August 11, 2013, 03:42:26 PM
Rest Maric
Maybe rest Cotchin and bring in Lonergan.

Should still win by 10 goals

Freshen up those who need it. Their replacements will be good enough to get the job done ala: Grimes/Bean/Donuts/Lonners/Orren. So rest: CHappy/Maric/Cotch/Tuck/McGuane.

No resting. Don't flirt with form, especially not two weeks out from finals.

Need to keep winning, builds player confidence!

What you do is rotate our better players more and give Edwards, Grigg, Conca, Ellis more time in the midfield!

If McGuane is going to be in the team then Riewoldt can spend more time at FF and let McGuane run up field.

The only one maybe two who we could rest would be Maric. The guy is obviously battling something and is better off having a week off. Which is why we have Stephenson. Maybe Astbury for Chaplin too. Astbury will be forced out for Grimes. Chaplin with his knees.

Rest should be done during the week, maybe just a light training load.

Otherwise go for the kill.

I'd only rest good players if the potential % won't improve our ladder position, but if the % matters then go hard at it.

TBBH I don' think we are good enough YET to be thinking about resting players.

Also don't think it is something you do a fortnight out from your first final in over a decade. Actually don't think it's something anyone does a fortnight out from the finals, good teams have done it usually 4-6 weeks out not 2 weeks out

It was clearly evident to me on the weekend that we are not in a position to rest players. Finals footy is four quarter footy. Until we can consistently play four quarter footy, then nobody gets an armchair ride into finals.
Also, resting players displays a kind of arrogance we have not yet earned. We are not Geelong. We are a club who has not played finals since 2001 and have not won a Grand Final since 1980. And on a more selfish note, the Skoda Game is one of the few times a year I actually get to see the boys play live, I want them to be full strength and smash the Orange Orangutan's into oblivion and to go with it a nice percentage boost.

For mine, its Pedal to the Metal on the Finals Express! And on this Bus, there's no stopping for Toilet breaks! (However stopping for the odd snuggy purchase might be suitable to boost team morale.  )  :gotigers

If we are not in a position to rest one or two players against a team like GWS, what position are we in then, come on, they have been getting pumbled...Lonergen for Cotch and Riewoldt for McBean should not hurt us in this game.

Boomer Chimp will need to play as he is in my Dream Team. Riewoldt will be sweet, let's just bring in Liam 'Boomer' McBean anyway.

Couldn't think of a better game to Blood McBean in than the GWS one!!!!

Only players we should rest IF we insist on resting are the younger players. Anyone 22+ should keep on playing. Even then maybe just use them as subs

The top sides routinely rest players before the finals.

we arent really  good enough to rest a lot of  players against anyone.we could do the odd one or two.
look at it this way if we are good enough to win by 100 points that will be as good as a rest for the players. 100 point floggings are ultimately   training drills.

the only thing im concerned about is we have pretty much had our best 22 available all yr apart from the odd player like  grimes.   we have 3 games to get games into him and the likes of tuck.
the question i ask is what if we dont have jack riewoldt or big ivan or steve morris who can perform their roles to a decent level.
id be looking at resting ivan who is irreplaceable as we have no replacement for him.give orren a game and give him some support. if ivan goes down we need orren up to speed. of course it depends on who orren is up against perhaps we could play big ivan in a f/p and play orren most of the day in the ruck thus giving ivan a rest of sorts.

give mcbean a game this kid should have had 4 or 5 games by now. if jack goes down he is the most likely replacement.
we are screaming out for a quality sml forward why not mcdonough at nahas expense.
ultimately we ask what do we do without the better players and have we done enough to prepare the obvious replacements as far as game time and development goes.
imo the answer is no if injuries hit we are in strife.

KB said on SEN that Richmond will rest players against Carlton.

Another few Richmond supporters I bumped into said the same thing and with no source.

Surely not!?!?!?!
