The radio station only does Box Hill games so that's why they are cheerleading.

Coburg gave away four 50m penalties in just that first quarter  :P.

Quarter time

Coburg   2.1-13
Bos Hill   7.7-49

Goals: N.Maric, Venditti

We'll find out how strong this breeze is with Coburg kicking with it now in the 2nd qtr.

Title: Re: Coburg vs Box Hill --- Sunday, Aug 18
Post by: one-eyed on August 18, 2013, 02:47:02 PM
Nahas from outside 50m bounces towards goal but it's rushed through.

Good work by Griffiths gets it to Nahas outside 50, his kick is smothered but he gathers it again and gets it to Venditti but he misses a sitter.

Box Hill then go coast to coast into the breeze and kick another goal.

Coburg   2.3-15
Box hill   9.7-61

Elton misses.

Helbig finds Griffiths now inside forward 50 (35m out). Misses too.

That's 6 behinds to 2 goals this qtr so far. Coburg kicking with a 5 goal breeze remember.

Yep. Touched it a couple of times up the ground in the first qtr and kicked one point this qtr.

-----------------

Dea now having a shot from 50m. Doesn't make the distance even with this strong breeze.

Box Hill run it up for a goal and then another from the centre clearance. That's 4 goals to the Hawks from just 6 inside 50s this qtr.

19 - 73

Half-time

Coburg     2.1      3.8-26
Box Hill     7.7    11.7-73

Goals: McBean, N.Maric, Venditti

No one putting their hand up for RFC selection here  :P.

Coburg kicked just one goal with a "5-goal" breeze while Box Hill almost kicked a goal everytime they went forward into the breeze to kick 4 themselves. This could blow out to 100 points at 3/4 time.

How can the Bean kick his usual bag of goals if his teammates cant get the footy to him. The Bean is innocent in terms of todays rubbish. The kid would have kicked 15 if his team mates were any good.

Leading possession getters to Half Time were: Nahas 18, Helbig 16, Verrier 15 and Thomas 13.

3rd qtr has started.

Another two behinds to Coburg  ::) to a Hawks' goal.

McBean is having to mark against 3 defenders. I haven't heard Az Edwards name mentioned today so I don't think he is playing.

Saad over to McBean but he misses.

Nahas free on the wing but his kick inside 50 isn't great. McBean does great work at ground level to find Dea. Dea misses though.

30 - 82

Derickx's snap goes 10 miles in the air and lands through for another point.

Griffiths now marks 20m out. Finally a goal.

It was either Derickx or Darrou but they just gave away 100m (2x50) penalties to gift Box Hill another goal.

WBC commentators' bests for Coburg:

Nahas - best for Coburg. Very active on the ball and tried hard all day. A commentator actually gave him a vote.
Griffiths - kicked two when he was moved forward in the last qtr.
Big O - competitive in the ruck.
McBean - presented well.
Helbig - got a fair bit of it but made a few blues including giving away at least three 50m penalties.

Coburg facebook page says the obvious - "Griffiths kicked 2 in the last term to help keep the margin under 100, but all in all a pretty disappointing day for Coburg."

McBean injured in Coburg loss

By richmondfc.com.au
11:01am AEST Monday, August 19, 2013

Scans later today will determine the extent of an ankle injury suffered by exciting, young Richmond key forward, Liam McBean, playing for Coburg in the VFL on Sunday.

McBean left the field in the third quarter and did not return, as Coburg suffered an 87-point loss to Box Hill.

The talented 18-year-old had registered 13 disposals and kicked 1.4 before the injury.

Exciting, young Tiger key-forward prospect, Liam McBean, will miss the remainder of the 2013 season with an ankle injury.

It was initially feared the 18-year-old had fractured his ankle while playing for Coburg against Box Hill in the VFL on Sunday, after he limped from the field during the third quarter. Scans today, however, revealed no bone damage.

Coburg coach Tim Clarke's summary of how the Richmond-listed players performed at VFL level:

Jake Batchelor

Had a down day.  It wasn’t so much that he was beaten by a Box Hill opponent, he just didn’t have a big impact on the game, like he’d had in the previous two weeks.

Ben Darrou

Made some uncharacteristic errors.  Defensively, he allowed a few lead-ups, which was a focus for us going into the game.  Offensively, he had a bit of the ball, but turned it over a few times.

Matt Dea

Was pretty good offensively, picking up 26 disposals and providing plenty of run off half-back.  Needs to be better defensively, however, as he allowed the Box Hill forwards to have a few lead-ups and was beaten in several one-on-one contests.

Tom Derickx

Split the ruck duties with Orren Stephenson and battled well throughout the game.  Was better around the ground, with three contested marks and 17 disposals all-up.

Aaron Edwards

It was a quiet day all round for our forwards, due to the strong wind and the team’s poor ball movement.  Aaron found more of the ball when he played as a spare defender late in the first and third quarters.

Todd Elton

Didn’t have much of an impact on the game, finishing with just six disposals.

Ben Griffiths

Competed really well all day and hit the scoreboard with 2.2 in a tough day for forwards.

Brad Helbig

Was terrific offensively, winning plenty of contested ball and working really hard back to support our defenders.  Just needs to work on the defensive side of his game.

Liam McBean

Again was very lively up forward, but was inaccurate in front of goals, kicking 1.4, before being carried off due to an ankle injury.  Will most likely be sidelined for 3-4 weeks with ligament damage.

Robin Nahas

Accumulated a lot of the footy, finishing with 31 disposals, playing across half-forward, through the midfield and across half-back.  Provided plenty of run and carry, however was a bit wasteful with the ball, which is unlike him.

Orren Stephenson

Shared the ruck duties with Tommy Derickx.  Rucked really well and his follow-up efforts were good, but he didn’t have much overall impact around the ground.

Steve Verrier

Had another fairly good game off half-back, picking up 22 disposals, but again let himself down with his decision-making and skill execution by both hand and foot.
