Title: Its Draft and Trade time Again!
Post by: Rampstar on September 08, 2013, 06:16:51 PM
Well the season is over for 2013 and we as usual begin the process at who should come to Tigerland and who should get the arse. So feel free to tell us who the club should get rid off for the club to not only make the finals again in 2014 but to win atleast 1 final next year.

Pity our best 20-odd players all just lost currency.

Need a power forward and a mature/strong midfielder with leadership qualities similar to how EFC picked up Goddard.

Deledio for pick 1 and Adams

Gone for me should be - Matthew Dea, Luke McGuane, Shane Tuck (Ann. Retirement) Robin Nahas, Aaron Edwards, Tom Derrickx, Orren Stephenson (Should sign on for Richmond Reserves team), Ben Darrou (Should sign for Richmond Reserves Team) and Steve Verrier and Sam Lonergan. Thats 10 players straight of the bat.

The players who I would consider trading if the right deal came along would include: Dylan Grimes, Dustin Martin, Shaun Grigg, Shane Edwards, Jake Batchelor, David Astbury, Ben Griffiths, Brad Helbig, Steven Morris, and Ricky Petterd. Thats another 10 right there.

Bit harsh on Morro. Had a stinker but his only one for 2 years, just hurts with the timing. Can't fully blame the deep backs after the rot set in either :banghead. The rest is pretty good depending on what you consider a good deal  ;D (probably not martin though).

some or one silky small fwd, a big strong FF who is a dangerous target and will bring the ball down to advantage when not clunking them

I can't see getting rid of McGaune, he's popular at the club, you'll get nothing of significant value at the trade table and he is another tall that can kick the odd goal.  Sure I would like to develop a better forward than him, so play McBean but you wouldn't dump McGaune until McBean or another can play the role.  He still has a year or two I would guess at 26.

Nahas as much as I like the guy has always had a problem with being so small.  I think this year it has been more obvious and you never know it may be his last.  We may keep him in the 2's as a backup.  The other issue is King is getting older he is 29, so who will replace him.  The most obvious small forward is Edwards or Nahas.  So maybe this draft will look at small forwards, but I would assume they look at midfielders (you can never have enough) and backs(to backup an eternally injured Grimes, a will he wont he Astbury and a Batchelor who hasn't improved as much as I'd have liked).  Finding a Scarlett or Corey Enright would be fantastic but they get developed they don't grow on trees..

You couldn't get rid of Derickx and Stephensen without spending draft resources finding another ruck.  There is no way McBean could ruck next year, he's a beanpole and will be 20+ before he can match it with. So you'd be left with Vickery and Maric and hoping Griffiths could ruck in a pinch.  I suspect Derickx will get the arse unless Stephensen retires and we will recruit one young and possibly one mature ruck as backup.  Its also a possibility Griffiths will get his marching orders.

I'd like to see us land someone with a real winning culture, major leadership qualities and is super hard at the footy.

We need to develop some of our own too in order to entice better quality players to us as well.

Personally would like us to entertain something bold like this..

Deledio/Martin -> Pick 1 -> Dangerfield

Cotchin and Dangerfield in the same midfield is as strong as any top 2 in the comp.

GWS need a big name in the midfield, Martin or Lids can be that. Adelaide need picks after the Tippett penlties.. Dangerfield is a Victorian boy and surely would see Adelaides future not being crash hot without first round draft picks for 2 years and no forwardline.

didnt we start a thread like this at the end of rnd 23 perhaps we can merge em.

imo we need to use at least our first 3 nd picks and if at all possible trade into one. but i will go with 3 for now,   picks 12, 30, 48. id like to see us target  good mature types in the psd, f/a, and do 1 trade for a high need if possible.
that means replacing 6 on the list proper.
i would also like to see us use 3 possibly 4 rookie picks on both kids and mature types. that means 3 possibly 4 of the rookies need to be cut.

imo there are at least 17 on the list proper who you could make a good case for delisting or getting what we can for them in trade.

for me at this point id be wanting
mcguane, derrickx, nahas, tuck gone, i would have included king but have been told hes just been resigned. so that means two others. to me that is just two tough calls to make.
that still leaves 13 others in the gun, they are  either kids who have not come on as we would like or older blokes who actually give us a bit but are glass half fulls and we really should be looking to upgrade on them weather that is this yr next yr or the one after.

rookies i would not hesitate to cut are
verrier, lonergan, petterd, possiblky stephenson depending on what we do about obtaining a ruckman. would think they will give williams and darrou another yr on the rookie list.

Pope You are dreaming (not that there's anything wrong with that) if you think Dangerfield will leave Adelaide. He will be their captain most probably in 2014

Trade

The Tigers have become the masters of trade moves and free agency in recent year. An inside midfielder, high on leadership and aggression will be high on their agenda next month, to help take the load off Cotchin.

Would trade dustin for pick 1 but GWS won't trade it for him IMO.

Correct Andyy, we need a player up forward like a Roughhead, Waite, Tippert. Someone who gets on with the job instead of thinking they are great because they won 2 Coleman medals.
Good sides are built around forwards & sooky Rewoldt spends more time waving at umpires or walking with his head down while his opponent runs away with the ball. Get a real forward who leads & has great confidence. l wrote about this some years back & we still suffer the same problem.  l would try for John Butcher from Port Adelaide. he should have dropped some value by now  ;D A trade of Shane Edwards & a 3rd round pick would be justice.

just to add some sweetner to it l would give them Griffiths also. l think he only got 1 game this year & they seen that his not a AFL player & left him in the VFL to be bandaged by the medic's cause he was using up too many bandages & trainers time in the Tigers clubroom  ;D

heres two scenarios i heard.
lets just say martin is going so is conca. its only conjecture.

martin + pick 29 to brisbane. longer, and picks 7 25 to tiges. tht would be a great salvage job imo.

conca to wce.   pick 24 ?? we wont get pick 6, and one of mcgovern sinclair. again if he decides he wants out it becomes a salvage job.

Why wouldn't we get pick 6?  I would expect more than pick 6 myself.  Conca cost us pick 6 AND we have developed him nicely into a regular senior player who can play 200 games!

I wouldn't be giving him away for the poor return that you have suggested.  He has better currency than that!

I like the trade idea, Butcher goes ok.
Riewodlt is a gun, Butcher would probably get a dozen goals from Jacks play which will build confidence in the lad.
I'd see them as complimentary to each other.

However they then need to rely on their preferred club picking them up. I doubt Conca would make it to WCE. Martin would get picked up by the 1st pick for GWS obviously. Most players don't want to go PSD.
