Community campaigners, health workers and charity stalwarts made up the bulk of today's awards.
The highest-profile recipients included television host Eddie McGuire, actor Bryan Brown and papal powerbroker Cardinal George Pell .....
Isn't Eddie a renowned Republican? What's the bet though that he doesn't give this award back?

In fairness to Eddie the awards have nothing to do with the Queen. They're Australian awards but because these types of nationalistic awards have always been handed out on the Queen's birthday we've stuck with that tradition. Yesterday wasn't even her real birthday.

Just on Eddie, how about how much control he had over fixturing with the decision to make the Pies-Power live tomorrow night. Wearing his Ch 9. hat he rings up the AFL asking for the ok. The AFL can only give the ok if the home team's president says it's alright for the game to go against the gate. And guess who is the president of the home team - Eddie wearing his Pies president hat - who gives the ok :-X.

The only control Eddie McNonsense had over the decision was the fact that Big Kerry signs his pay cheque and he does what big Kerry says and big Kerry wants to show both (I believe the same thing is happening in Sydney tonight as well). If Nine didn't have the rights to the footy there is no way Eddie McNonsense would have agreed.

Up here last night they didn't show the game till 5am this morning due to the early scheduling of the NRL, followed by Wimbledon and then the Late Show with David Letterman at 4am. :banghead
