Title: Rating last year's recruiting 12 months on?
Post by: one-eyed on September 30, 2013, 04:40:45 PM
The Herald-Sun gave us 7/10.

RICHMOND

IN Chris Knights (Adel), Troy Chaplin (PA), Aaron Edwards (NM)
OUT Angus Graham (Adel)

DRAFT PICKS: 9 (Nick Vlastuin), 31 (Kamdyn McIntosh), 33 (Liam McBean), 42 (Matt McDonough)

VERDICT: Can’t fault any of the Tigers’ changes. They never looked like losing sleep over Graham, while Chaplin was a massive get. Edwards played an important role towards the backend of the year, while Knights looked OK before injury struck. Vlastuin is the only draftee we can make an early call on and for a teenager to come in and cement a place in a finals side speaks volumes for his potential. Tigers recruiters identified him as their main target a long way out from the draft and got their man.

RATING: 7/10

Excellent work IMO. Can't really fault it at all.

Chaplin awesome pickup.

A Edwards we got for basically nothing and he was worth it.

Knights was looking great but you can't predict knee reco's like that.

Vlastuin also sensational for a first year player.

Lots if good stuff about McBean.

Hopefully another solid year of trading/drafting and we'll be much better off IMO.

Hopefully the other draftees come on, we need some 2nd, 3rd and 4th round draftees to step up and become regulars. Talking about Mcbean, McIntosh, Astbury, Batchelor, Helbig, Elton etc - those types

I reckon we got some gooduns in that lot, once the beanster hits the bigtime and I had hopes for McIntosh as well.

just too early to say.
while i thought we failed to take enough genuine mids i thought the processes we took were good.
we used good picks on kids in the nd and we bought in mature players cheaply either in f/a  cheap trade or rookie. i think the balance in numbers between kids taken and mature players taken was pretty good.
i think the quality  of our mature rookie picks left a lot to be desired.
i also think we failed to address pressing list needs.

The real test will be when the RFC starts needing to trade players out to significantly improve the draft position & total list - and that starts with this trade period.

Hey i voted a 2 being great, crappola.  Can I revote!

The 4 experienced players traded was great.  we got rid of Graham and got a half back in Chaplin.

And of the 4 draft kids you just never know after 12 months.

The mature aged recruits were good. We got them for virtually nothing.

Not too sure about the drafts namely the Mc-brigade but at the very least all signs point to the beanstalk being a great player for the Tigers.

We really need a Jack and the Bean attack to give Rough and Gunston a run for their money

Hopefully McDonough plays some more senior footy in 2014 as McIntosh, McBean.
Orren was great as back up ruck. Did what was asked of him and did it well most of the time.
Edwards did a job but I didn't expect much more than that and Vlas will play 200 games plus for us and be a very valuable player.

I am hoping that blokes like Arnot, Elton, O'Hanlon step up and play consistent senior footy next year and give the 2011 draft a slight boost in ranking. :thumbsup
