Veteran Chris Newman says the Tigers are aiming for top four

Richmond veteran Chris Newman has backed the Tigers to push for a top-four position this season.
The only present-day Tiger to play 200-plus games will feature in the forward line this season and just as he will run forward, he has tipped the Tigers to go in the same direction after crashing out in the first week of the finals in 2013.
With many sides in the finals race, Newman said the Tigers would do everything they could to secure their place.
''If there is expectation you are in a good position,'' Newman said after the club's family day on Sunday, which attracted 9000 supporters.
''We want to improve on last year and go one better. We will aim for a top-four position and see how we go, but there are a lot of teams with finals chances and there is still a long way to go.''
Newman also defended midfielder Dustin Martin against criticism that he was not as fit as last season following the Tigers' loss to Melbourne on Friday night.
''I didn't hear those comments but they are certainly wrong,'' Newman said. ''He has had a fantastic pre-season. He ran a PB in his two-kilometre time trial and all his indicators suggest he is in very good physical condition.
''I think everyone was blowing to be honest. NAB 1 is always a real blowout, particularly that first 15-20 minutes because they are not used to that physicality.
''I have supreme confidence in his conditioning.''

Imagine if they went at 100% - they would have run out of puff in 5 minutes!
-
making the top 8 would be satisfying enough ;D

When have Richmond sides ever been among the fittest? Been an issue for 30 years.

Agree with this although when you have less ability you always look like you are chasing tail.

Every stupid club says they've had the best pre season ever.
They all talk crap.

I wish a team like the Saints would say "we've had a poo pre-season and we're going to be battlers this year"

PR version - "Pre-season's been interesting and provided us with valuable insight into our list and where it's headed - the club is looking forward to drafting more quality young talent in the coming years to further rejuvenate the playing roster."
-
Funny thing is every team does have its best preseason ever each season, pb's tend to get bettered year on year as sports science gets more and more cutting edge. But it all depends on whether you have improved less or more than the rest of the competition :thumbsup

Not long before Martin came off and they asked how hard he was blowing they showed Cotchin on the bench looking absolutely spent, but nah must be cause they are unfit not how hard they've worked

Those "improvements" mean SFA in terms of football tho.
Just more stuff to jack off over.
That's why Graeme Richmond was great.
Intra club match ? - Smash each other!
Only way to improve your footy is to play it hard.
How about stats like, x player is kicking 10 metres further, or such and such is shouldering a 120 kilo bag into the ground?
The game IS a bi-product of sports science.
This is where it got lost.

Best pre-season ever.
Flying on the track.
Training the house down.
Training with the midfield group.
-
And I'm sick of seeing mentally challenged blokes like Jack making mention of "How pre-season is a really tough time to get through"
How stuffn soft are these kids?
