Title: Patrick Dangerfield
Post by: 1965 on March 20, 2014, 07:56:47 AM

OMFG can we dream it might be possible?

Patrick Dangerfield to weigh up Adelaide prospects
March 19, 2014 - 6:33PM

Caroline Wilson
Chief Football Writer for The Age

Patrick Dangerfield has put the Adelaide Crows on notice, declaring the decision on his football future beyond next season would not be based on financial reward but on the potential for on-field success.

The Crows acting co-captain said he has no intention of re-committing to Adelaide in 2014, and would wait until the final year of his contract before making a call on whether or not to return to his home state.

‘‘When I do it will be a decision based on success not on money, that’s for sure,’’ said Dangerfield, who could move to the club of his choice at the end of 2015 should the AFL accept a push from the players’ association to reduce the restricted free agency period from eight years to seven.

‘‘I’m one of those players who want to know the direction of the club. I’m always asking David Noble (the Crows list manager and strategic boss) about where we are at because clearly there has been a lot of talk here about the problems we’ve had.

‘‘We lose Kurt Tippett for nothing and then you lose first- and second-round draft picks for two years and it makes it a lot more difficult to have success.’’

Be more realistic hoping there's a falling out here we could possibly take advantage of:

Chris Newman is finished, Nathan Foley is finished and Jake King should also retire at the end of this season. Newman as a past captain would be on about $300k, Foley as a favorite son would be on at least $250k and King would probably be on $200k a year. Thats $750,000 a year straight of the bat that could go to paying a "Big Fish".

Dangerfield is the right age and the right capacity as a player to be that big fish. The club would probably have a little bit of room in the salary cap to increase on the $750k as well. Maybe a 5 year deal at $900k a year or $4.5 million over the 5 years would be enough to get Dangerfield to agree to come to us.

Ramps u know they won't do it(dump all 3) so there's no point even bringing it up.

Club has shown it has no balls by holding onto these Newman type hacks who play one good quarter out of 8.

He'll end up at Geelong, Collingwood or Hawthorn becayse they are the three best run Vic clubs.
If you want shady deals Carlton is your team.
If you want a bloke who overstays his welcome then Richmond is your moneybag.
As I said he'll be a Hawk, Cat or Maggie next year.

From memory the minimum pay is about $80k so I reckon these payments are about right considering Newman was a past club captain, Foley a favorite son and King has played over 100 games.

The total salary cap is $9.6 million for the 2014 season. Its amazing how much money supporters are coughing up to pay these blokes.

According the a Herald Sun report last year the average salary per AFL player is now $265,179 obviously the stars get more and the rookies alot less but the 3 players I mentioned are experienced AFL players and youd reckon theyd all be around the average so my figures arent probably alot wrong.

Heard Foley was on about 300k a season, and I'd be pretty confident that newman is on more than the average afl wage. think 750k is underselling, would think its closer to 900k for those 3.

Probably about right for Foley TM, although he might have taken less for the extra time (3 yrs).  Newman also might have taken less this time given his age and probable short shelf life left in the game.  If Kingy has signed a contract with a minimum games clause then I wouldn't expect him to be on much more than 200k but regardless of all that, the other thing to consider is that if we replace 3 with 1 in the cap then we still need to fund 2 replacement players and even if they are draftees then that will still be close to $200k extra room needed.  I'm pretty confident (gut feeling, no facts) that we've still got a bit of room in our cap to move but it is a factor that may or may not have an influence on what the club can do/afford.

For a club with so few bonafide guns on our list surely there's the money.

That's a very real possibilty IMO. There's reason - particularly with Cotchin - that they only re-signed for two years.

That's exactly why i say this year is so important, probably more important than next .

We bust out this year as i expect us too, and its going to turn to poo next year big time.

Early losses, Hardwicks head on a platter, Cotchin talks on hold = Richmond FC imploding as we have seen before.

il call it now we will be on the front page of every newspaper come round 2 after the blues beat us.

must finish in the 8 this year.
