McBean kicks four in VFL Tigers win
John Lindon
March 29, 2014 5:46
Richmond will take valuable momentum into the VFL season after it notched a thrilling two-point win over Essendon at the Club’s new facility at Tullamarine this afternoon.
In a fast-paced game that saw the lead change regularly, the Tigers overcame fast-starts from Essendon in every quarter to grind out a hard-fought win.
Liam McBean kicked four goals in Richmond’s fourth and final practice match of the pre-season, which featured 16 of the Club’s AFL-listed players.
McBean booted two goals inside the space of a minute to give the Tigers a quarter-time lead after Essendon went ahead early.
In his second game after returning from a hamstring injury, Dan Jackson was a constant presence in and around packs and won contested ball for the Tigers.
The reigning Jack Dyer Medallist amassed 15 possessions and used his body well, bumping and tackling hard to create scoring opportunities for his teammates.
Richmond 5.2 7.3 13.4 16.9 (105)
Essendon 4.2 7.3 10.6 15.13 (103)
Goals: McBean 4, Batsanis 2, Bathie 2, O’Hanlon 2, Lloyd 2, Elton, Miles, Gordon, Edwards
Best: Miles, McBean, Batsanis, Jackson, McDonough, Lloyd

From the AFL website ...
... Richmond had its injury concerns with three players requiring attention.
The Tigers' good news out of the game – that reigning best and fairest Daniel Jackson got through unscathed as he pushes to return to the Richmond midfield next week – was soured by a trio of injuries concerns.
Tall forward Liam McBean kicked four goals with some exciting moments, but finished the game in pain after appearing to suffer an ankle injury in the last quarter.
The second-year prospect was helped from the field by trainers and received medical attention on the interchange bench.
Fellow forward Aaron Edwards also left the field with a knee injury, while midfielder Chris Knights is hoped to have only had soreness as he returns from a patella tendon injury to his knee last year.
Mature-aged recruit Sam Lloyd kicked two goals, while the Tigers' first pick at last year's draft, Ben Lennon, played well across half-back in the first half before sitting out most of the second half.

Stats do lie abit
Thought Jackson .Helbig and McBean were the best
McDonough had 18 but half would of been 15 metre kicks going backwards and sideways

Heppell does this all the time and he's a superstar. 15-20 metre kicks sideways or backwards all day, runs 20 metres and gets another cheapie. If there's no one free, then kicks it 45 down the wing. Superstar.
-
No talking about Heppell
Thought McDonough got a few cheapies yesterday
Reckon Sam Lloyd will be ok as well
-
lol
-
just an observation ;)
Yeah I like the look of Lloyd
-
Knights and Edwards will be fine
Good news jack, how's about Lennon and Mcbean, I didn't sleep a wink last night :o

He keeps banging on about McBean having the injury but won't answer questions about it :banghead

Sorry .have better things to do in life than being on here 24/7
Would of thought McBean will miss weeks probably many
Knights was walking around ok after the game ( he didn't play the second half either did Edwards)
Edwards spent the second half texting on his iPhone so don't think he was too concerned
Had ice on his knee as did the Big O
Major concern is McBean
Players that will push for selection on yesterday would be Jackson who is a certainty
Helbig not far off
The rest will have to wait there turn and need several solid performances in a row too push for selection

Tiger Knights suffers setback
Brent Diamond
The Age
March 30, 2014
RIichmond midfielder Chris Knights suffered a setback in his return from a knee injury in a VFL practice match against Essendon at the True Value Solar Centre in Tullamarine on Saturday.
The former Crow has shown encouraging form in the VFL practice matches, and the injury is a blow to his hopes of an immediate return.
Knights made a promising start to his career at Richmond last year before tearing the patella tendon of his right knee in round seven.
Tigers VFL coach Tim Clarke said he was hopeful Knights’ injury was only soreness.
Clarke appeared more concerned with a knee injury to forward Aaron Edwards and an ankle injury to Liam McBean, who kicked four goals before hurting his lower leg.
''They [Edwards and McBean] both needed help leaving the ground,” he said.
The trio will have scans to determine their injuries.
In better news for the Tigers, best-and-fairest Daniel Jackson was impressive in his second practice match hitout and is a chance to return from a hamstring injury against the Western Bulldogs next week.
''[Damien Hardwick] was very keen to get him back against Carlton [on Thursday night], so I would assume now, with another run under his belt, he’s going to be pushing his name right up there for selection,” Clarke said.
