GILLON McLachlan has been named as the AFL's new chief executive officer.
Andrew Demetriou will officially end his 11-year tenure as CEO on June 5, but AFL chairman Mike Fitzpatrick said McLachlan was now effectively the chief.
Demetriou's final event as CEO will be the annual AFL Hall of Fame function on June 4.
McLachlan told a media conference at AFL House that he was "incredibly proud" to have been appointed as chief executive.
"I understand the honour, I understand the responsibility, I understand the privilege of leading this code and this game."
He said he would be "a different leader, with a different approach" to Demetriou, and the shape and structure of the AFL would change.

Onya Gil. Whatever ... Right, now that the honeymoon is over its time for the important questions, Gil. Who are you getting to do the GF halftime show? Come on Gil, we want to know where we stand on this! Be the people's hero from day 1 by signing up AC/DC :clapping ... or Motorhead! :banghead Or Black Sabbath! :bow :pray :cheers
Get it done Gil .... oh, & no doof doof stuff, ok ... :thumbsup

Better yet, pee off all that try hard poorman's Stupidbowl, wannabe yank crap altogether and spend the money saved on grass roots football and cheaper tickets. Bring back the Reserves GF & play the TAC Cup GF in the day as curtain raisers....so what if they make a few stuffing divots.
Auskick & the sprint is all you need at half-time. Nobody watches the AFL Grand Final for the music or rhythmic gymnastics displays. The stuffing bagpipers were more entetaining than any of the crap they've served up since.
