"With hindsight I've probably played a year too long. At the end of last season I was really confident I could play this year, but it hasn't panned out that way.
"I have been struggling to string a couple of games together this season and feel like it's time I step aside and let someone else come in.
"I'm not confident of playing any decent and good consistent footy in the back half of the year and feel like it's time to step aside."

The Klapa Chronicle
Thursday 12 June 2014
Don Fistiki
In some good news to come out of a bleak season that promised so much at Punt Rd Chris Newman has agreed to a new 2 year deal.
Sources close to the club are delighted with this coup stating "Chris has been the backbone of the club for years and a former captain to boot. His presence and experience is just what this club needs"
Dan Richardson reiterated "Chris is an RFC person and when dealing with Chris we need to do things the RFC way depriving two or three kids is what we all are about".
Following on from his groundbreaking and candid interview on MMM last Sunday Chris Newman said
"I feel delighted that the club has allowed me to prolong my career. Getting started in a call centre now at my age on mid 40K would be a step down so I'm honored that the club has shown enough faith in me to keep a few kids out of the side with my unaccountable bruise free type of game and the option of a third year to take me to 35 years old or to join the assistant coaching crew should that third year not be feasible. My opponent runs himself into the ground due to my accountability so me helping to run playing list into the ground by not retiring is abit more payback to the boys".
Richmond currently sit 13th with a 3-8 record and gave up a 6 goal half time lead last start. This appointment seems to be a last ditch measure by the club to cash in on that amazing 2013 finals campaign and relive the glory days of Chris limping out in front of nearly 95000 in that ill fated match.
The club is confident it can attract on good money delisted players from other lowly clubs in the bottom six to start its half assed fornicated rebuild on sand.

Yep, spot on, if there is a stop gap needed take a proven quality player, not a proven mediocre one.
-
Wonder if O'Keefe and/or Ball would be open to just being on our VFL list? Probably not. Their experience would be invaluable to our kids though.
De Boer apparently wants out of Fremantle and Howlett's contract talks have supposedly stalled.
If the price was right both would improve our list IMO.
-
Howlett would be a massive get and would dominate in any side like ours for example where the opposition already focus on 2 or 3 players. Probably nothing in the reporting on his contract, they'd be crazy to let him go.

Wouldn't touch either. We have enough backs we don't need topping up unless they are young or genuine quality, not an okay (IMO) backman with no improvement left. Same with Jones in relation to our midfielders. Would have him over Thomas though

BRISBANE Lions have cut seven players from their list ahead of the upcoming AFL trade and free agency period.
Andrew Raines, James Polkinghorne, Jordan Lisle and Patrick Wearden have all been delisted, along with rookies Nick Hayes, Sam Michael and Isaac Conway.
They come on the back of the retirements of Jonathan Brown, Brent Moloney and Ash McGrath to make it the second successive season with sweeping changes at the club.
Raines told AFL.com.au last week he was keen to continue his 123-game career, while it is believed Polkinghorne who has played 94 games is eager to return to his home state of Victoria.

Polkinghorne was a pretty promising junior footballer in his U18s year. I could see us (in other words Blair Hartley) looking at him as a potential mature rookie pick-up.
