Must lose game (after putting up a fight in the first half)

This is where the real pain starts.

Funny I was thinking of writing the same thing!

We'll probably win this one out of our ass

Lance Franklin is going to kick more goals than our team total and the headlines the next day will highlight how we should've drafted him over Tambling

3 months ago I would of taken the night off work so I could watch this game live on TV.
Can't be bothered to go to the trouble to press a few buttons on the remote control so I can record the match now.

GET TO the MCG on Friday night if you can for the 'Buddy' Franklin show. The Sydney Swans’ superstar is back at the 'G for just the second time this season and he is in breathtaking form. Last Saturday's fourth-quarter heroics against Port Adelaide inspired the Swans' eighth straight win and cemented them as premiership favourites, with wins against Fremantle, Geelong and the Power in that streak. Richmond defender Alex Rance shapes as Franklin's opponent on Friday night as the Tigers chase their fourth win for the season. It will be a massive task for Damien Hardwick's men, who lost to Fremantle by 20 points in round 13 but impressed with their effort, if not their composure in crucial moments.
WHERE AND WHEN: MCG, Friday June 20, 7.50pm AEST
LAST FIVE TIMES
R18, 2013, Sydney Swans 16.14 (110) d Richmond 9.9 (63) at the SCG
R7, 2012, Richmond 13.13 (91) d Sydney Swans 8.14 (62) at the MCG
R21, 2011, Richmond 14.15 (99) d Sydney Swans 7.14 (56) at the MCG
R12, 2011, Sydney Swans 9.21 (75) d Richmond 9.11 (65) at the SCG
R14, 2010, Richmond 14.5 (89) d Sydney Swans 12.13 (85) at the MCG
THE SIX POINTS
1. The Swans last defeated Richmond at the MCG in 2009, with the Tigers winning the last three clashes at the venue and four of the last six.
2. The AFL’s top three kick-getters of 2014 will be playing in this game. Swans defender Nick Malceski (206) is ranked No.1 ahead of Tigers Trent Cotchin (205) and Dustin Martin (201).
3. Despite inconsistent form and debate around his role, Tigers star Jack Riewoldt is ranked No.1 in the AFL for marks inside 50 (53). Richmond overall is ranked No.4 for marks in attack.
4. The Swans were ranked No.1 in the AFL for hit-outs last season, but they have dropped to No.18 this year with just 33.5 a game. Ruckman Shane Mumford, who averaged 26 hit-outs for the Swans last year, was traded to GWS.
5. Richmond's lack of run and dare is evident in their drop-off in running bounces. Ranked No.4 for running bounces last season, with an average of 14.2 a game, they have dropped to No.13 this year with an average of 8.7.
6. Lance Franklin's brilliant fourth quarter against Port Adelaide in round 13 ensured he made a leap in the Official AFL Player Ratings, brought to you by Gatorade. He jumped from No.18 to No.14 overall and is now ranked No.3 at the Swans.
Prediction: Sydney Swans by 32 points

I just want to see us play really well for once against a good side this year. Last couple of weeks have been a bit more promising, hopefully we build on it Friday night. Need to start rescuing some form & confidence from this broken year.
-
All we need is a win against a top club just so the delusion can continue for another few years.
-
3. Despite inconsistent form and debate around his role, Tigers star Jack Riewoldt is ranked No.1 in the AFL for marks inside 50 (53). Richmond overall is ranked No.4 for marks in attack.
Marks don't win games. Goals do.........a and he's pathetic at kicking straight when the pressures on.
-
just want to see McBean play....don't care if he doesn't do much...surely Edwards out McBean in....which Edwards????? either or both would be fine!!!

yet he's in contention for another Coleman! the 1.5 was crap last week but I do believe if the delivery was a better Jack in general would covert a lot better. He'll never be as straight of a kick as Jack Gunston but he's probably one of the smarter forwards given that the developing team have stuffed his body by making him lose weight to be more agile and not putting him in for the surgery he needs to get that leap back.

Sydney Swans' plane drama en route to Melbourne
Travis King

June 19, 2014 3:04 PM
THE SYDNEY Swans might be flying on the field, but they have hit some unexpected drama off it after their Thursday afternoon flight to Melbourne was cancelled due to a brake problem.
AFL.com.au understands that the Swans' Virgin Australia flight VA858 was set for take-off at Sydney Airport when the plane had to turn back to the terminal after the problem struck.
A passenger on the flight told AFL.com.au a fire truck was called as a precaution and all passengers had to disembark once the plane returned to the terminal.
The flight has been cancelled according to the Virgin Australia website, however the Swans expect to arrive on another flight after 4pm.
The Swans, who are riding high on an eight-game winning streak, are travelling to Melbourne to face Richmond at the MCG on Friday night.

If u wanna talk accolades and being In contention, let me say,
he's not the favorite for good reason.
He misses unforgivable shots and as he's gotten older, this inadequacy has become as much a consistency in his game as his laconic second efforts.

Heard derm in last weeks telecast saying of all the big fwds in the comp, Jacks workrate is by far the worst.
I actually saw him early last week run straight to the pocket boundary line horizontally to the goals and when he got to the line he turned 90 degrees and led up the boundary -WTF is that???? I don't know if its him or the fwd coach but this poo has got to stop

Richmond Tigers aim to tame the Sydney Swans monster
The Age
June 20, 2014
When the AFL fixture list throws up Sydney, where do you start planning your defence?
It's a question plaguing Richmond coach Damien Hardwick ahead of their Friday night's clash with the Swans.
Certainly not the midfield where Josh Kennedy is on track to challenge for the Brownlow.
"Kennedy is one of those guys, you can tag him as many times as you like but he still seems to find a way of getting 25 (disposals) and 10 (clearances)," he said.
"They've got quality players through there, Kieren Jack and these types... they're just a formidable running machine."
And not a forward line where Lance Franklin now struts his stuff.
"I think (Franklin's) actually improved. It's probably the first time we've seen him be a force in contested marking," Hardwick said.
"You've got to make sure you monitor Buddy but then there's also a very good player down there by the name of Adam Goodes... (Sam) Reid, all these other types."
"Even across their half-forward line, the likes of (Jarrad) McVeigh who just seems to keep getting better year-in and year-out.
"A young kid by the name of Parker that's really impressive."
About the only factors pulling in the Tigers' direction is their recent form against Sydney at the MCG, winning the past three, and a few Sydney absentees.
Hardwick was heartened by the "big outs" of Kurt Tippett and Dan Hannebery, doubting that Ben McGlynn would take his place in the Swans' side.
He was also cautiously optimistic of taming the monster - with Alex Rance to be handed the job on Franklin.
"Alex has a pretty good record on Buddy the last couple of times he's played but that by no means guarantees Buddy is going to have a quiet game," he said.
With a 111-point belting of GWS their only win in seven matches, Hardwick was heartened by improvement in a key metric: the contested ball.
Seen by fans and coaches alike as a reading of hunger for the ball and skill under pressure, the Tigers shaded Fremantle last week despite a 20-point loss.
"That's our challenge... the consistency is the point that we've been missing," he said.
"We've got to outnumber as many contests as we can because that's the key."

I had a quick squiz at Champion Data and whilst I agree their acquisition of stats is questionable at times Buddy's only averaged something like 6 marks/game (1 contested). I do agree he's had a much greater presence after the bye and he does force a contest but that being said he's not exactly plucking them like Pavlich or Harry Taylor
-

I'm thinking game plan. Sure it could of crept into into his game but I don't recall him doing it in the past
-
Dimma uber game play of kicking to the forward pocket looking for a throw in
-
Worst game plan ever. Do we have to pay Hardwick out if he is diagnosed as clinically insane? Someone put a straight jacket on Hardwick and get it over with.
One goal 5. Our goal scoring collectively has been terrible this year. That's what you get by chip chipping to the pockets.
-
From what I remember most of Jacks points should have been goals for a kicker of his ability
But anyway carry on
-
Thomas is the sub tonight.
NO LATE CHANGES
FINAL INTERCHANGES
Richmond: Jake Batchelor, Nick Vlastuin, Nathan Foley
Substitute: Matt Thomas
Sydney Swans: Harry Cunningham, Tom Derickx, Jake Lloyd

Richmond 4-2-20 to Sydney 1-2-8 :gotigers
got to be proud of that 1st quarter effort :gotigers
-
Don't know why Maric went with the double fist.....
-
Nice work Monky. Great first qtr. Let's hope we can keep up the intensity.
-
They gave Cotchin a lot of freedom this quarter. They're probably going to try and put the clamps on him. Hopefully he can still exert a lot of influence in the second quarter because his clean disposal out of defence got us out of trouble a few times
-
Can't see how umpires pick a free for holding the ball when a player has 8 players on top of him
FIX THE RULES AFL it's destroying the game
-
Ho hum, seen it all before Tiges, do it for another 3 quarters and I may change my attitude.
-
Nice work Monky. Great first qtr. Let's hope we can keep up the intensity.
;D l gathered everyone but me be at the game. If they play football like that every week l would be there.
Batchelor is a key to the backline & movement over the ground. Franklin Pfft ;D Rance loves the challenge
-
Love Myles.
C'mon boys!
-
were getting raped by the umps.
how long til We stop and sydney stuff the switch?
-
were getting raped by the umps.
how long til We stop and sydney stuff the switch?
The fans have spoken they won't go down without a fight
-
l must of missed a goal getting a beer ??? have we got a goal at the start of the 2nd
-
Good first qtr no passengers. Cotch was everywhere been a while since we've seen him dominate like that. Miles vgood, really liked a contest Dea won on Parker, Ellis and Conca solid and Hampson kicked a goal :lol
Longmire went nuts at qtr, when the opposition coach loses his poo, it's usually a sign he doesn't rate you
-
NOOOOOO! Why did Jack centre it to Hampson!?!?!?!
-
l love the sight of blood coming from the opposition ;D :gotigers
-
That wasn't 15m!
-
Shane Edwards is not defensive enough did you all see him just walking around after Franklin took the mark. l would bench him
-
Ellis is butchering it
-
Why can't we kick it to the hotspot why.....
-
Lol what a balls up

Richmond 34 Sydney 14
-
:gotigers Deledio Goal ;D
Richmond 40 Sydney 14
-
Dea is starting to win more and more key contests, good on him
Playing some good footy the boys
-
Ellis isn't doing a great deal despite getting the ball 18 times....
-
Do they flip a coin or something for holding the ball vs ball up?
-
True first qtr was good but now he's just padding his stats
-
Sydney starting to hunt in packs. Time to see if we can hold it together.
-
Is it just me or is Foley looking a bit quick today?
-
Fantastic contested mark from Dea!! :clapping
-
Gutzy Mark from Dea :gotigers
-
Richmond 40 Sydney 20 with 2.30 left in 2nd :gotigers
-
Is it just me or is Foley looking a bit quick today?
Noticed it about 2-3 weeks ago, definitely got a bit of dash back
-
How can they pay that? Had two blokes sitting on his back.
-
Comedy Bloopers there but Houli went to ground without any contact weak as pee
Richmond 40 Sydney 26
-
1/2 Time
Richmond 6-4-40 to Sydney 4-2-26 :gotigers
-
That last 5 minutes cost us, we looked a little tired.
Apart from that, commentators can say all they like.
Great team effort.
I'm hoping we don't see a fade out in second half.
-
Is it just me or is Foley looking a bit quick today?
Best I've seen him look since back in the day
-
They coughed up a few unforced errors in the last 10 minutes of that quarter. Houli needs to be taken out of that backline.
Cotchin, Deledio, Conca, Martin, & others all doing the job. Sydney has a few injury worries. Kerrin Jack, & Shaw, so we should cut them down with run.
-
Is it just me or is Foley looking a bit quick today?
Best I've seen him look since back in the day
Foley is a very quick hands inside player his going well.
-
ok someone else can take over :gotigers
-

I'm hoping we don't see a fade out in second half.
Noticed that too, saw a grab with Miles chasing and he looked spent, Grimes looked out on his feet too a little earlier. Hope its not what we fear
-
Ellis you killed the momentum!
-
Predictable
-
Are we done again?
-
Sydney's kicked the last 3 goals now and are coming out firing. Really hoping the Tigers can put a few more goals on the board for some breathing space
-
And here comes the horror quarter
-
No matter how often I see it, it still flabbergasts me
-
Rance has been fantastic all night. He's doing his bit in subduing Franklin
-
Rance is having some game, hope he gets just reward for his effort, would hate to see franklin get some cheapies and end up with 4-5
-
Concerning how they seem to be able stand up in our tackles and still get the ball off this qtr, it's relentless
-
And the RFC lead is gone. Matt Thomas is activated as sub
-
Dea off????? Somebody please tell me he's injured
-
Tigers are getting killed in the contest. Also the run has appeared to dry up. Fitness issue?
-
Kicking's been shocking from both teams the past 5 minutes
-
Lost it at CHB. Swans carved us up through the corridor but due to an error from Jetta we got a reprieve
-
We don't look like kicking another goal...
-
Reckon this is just about the most complete game I've seen from Vlastuin
-
Jeez we drop some easy marks
-
can Ellis get a possession he doesn't turn over???
-
Miles got a slap to the face.......
-
can Ellis get a possession he doesn't turn over???
Getting pretty sick of his rushed nothing blind kicks
-
Milo marks it just inside the 50......MILO KICKS A GOAL AFTER THE SIREN!
-
Well I'll be stuffed, a third quarter goal.
-
Miles can play! Excellent conversion from a youngster to kick a goal to put us 1 point in front after the siren.
-
4 goal loss coming up but .......
-
Hate to sound pessimistic but we are like a boxer about to get knocked out, punch drunk but hanging on, this last quarter I think we go down, don't seem to have any run left. Seems predictable and would love to think differently but it's deja vu for me.
-
Deledio sidesteps a player but kicks it straight to a Swan ......
-
The ball was kept in and Franklin with a quicksnap puts them in front by 3 points.
-
First to 100 will be tough tonight.
-
Yes Ellis has been frustrating
-
The difference is clear to me, player for player the Swans make better decisions with the ball, we will lose most games on our decision making alone.
-
Possession chain by Richmond was fantastic. Didn't panic and Morris kicks it Jack who marks it. But Jack misses and may cost us the match :(
-
Ellis calls for the handball receive. Drops the handball and if not for Miles coming to the rescue we would've conceded another goal
Swans:53
Tigers:51
-
Tired Richmond outfit out there. Admittedly got shafted by the umpire a couple of times. Next goal will probably decided the winner.
-
Sorry but I don't understand the holding or dropping the ball rules. Either the umpires make it up every week or we are just poorly rewarded.
-
Franklin kicks a goal because he was illegally held by Rance.
Swans up by 9 points. I think the tigers are done.....
-
Hampson get out of our club
-
Hampson get out of our club
I think the drafting of Hampson is the sole reason for the difference in our performance this year.
-
Sorry but I don't understand the holding or dropping the ball rules. Either the umpires make it up every week or we are just poorly rewarded.
First they determine if a marquee player or team is involved, otherwise they just flip a coin.
-
And right on queue, Richards makes no attempt and it's a ball up.
-
We wouldn't of won but Lids should've been paid the mark
-
loose player kill kill KILlING us
-
Good to see AFL selling the brand to NSW.
-
Very disappointing loss. Not as bad the NMFC loss. But really the match was lost at selection. Bringing in Thomas put no speed into our tired team. Really needed some fresh legs from the sub. I know Rance had 4 kicked on him but I thought he did great considering the Swans were looking for him all night.
-
loose player kill kill KILlING us
Chaplin or Grundy ?
-
loose player kill kill KILlING us
Every bloody week
-
Good old Ellis, professional out on the full free kick recipient.
-
Again I say we have no creativity with ball in hand, lack of speed skill and football smarts. Trying hard at this level brings some respect but it won't win a lot of games.
-
Good old Ellis, professional out on the full free kick recipient.
He had the biggest nothing 35 possessions ever. It was good to see Miles in the contest. Deledio looked a bit flat tonight, I liked his daring and step around players but normally you see him run 30m before bombing it 60m. I'm a bit concerned for Lids. Martin and Cotch were fantastic but as per usual they were spent by the start of the 4th quarter and really needed some back up. And they didn't get it.
-
You can't win games of footy kicking only one goal in 70 minutes.
-
GR12 that's very true. The F50 entries weren't great. Jack should've kicked his but Lids should've been paid the mark. What was disappointing to me was we couldn't run out the game. Looked really slow and tired at the end. Fitness needs to be priority 1 in the upcoming preseason
-
Played our hearts out tonight. Just not quite good enough. Sounds weird but it might actually be better for us, long term, that we didn't win tonight.
Still gutted.
-

Doesn't sound weird ...
Can't close ones eyes and pretend its not a world of salary caps and national drafts
-
1. If Hampson can't mark above his chest delist.
2. Dusty and Jack missing bread and butter shots in a low scoring game in the last is criminal.
3. Jack Jampson and Edwards are either dumb footballers and can't read the play or lazy as Grundy and Richards lead them to the ball all night.
4. Titch Edwards run no way, not forward not back not anywhere. If he gets to 150 games worst player in AFL history to do so. Remind me again what he does that's positive.
5. Houli how many turnovers tonight??????
6. Why isn't Arnott, McBean, O'hanlon etc I'm this side.
7. Umps raped and pillaged us especially in the last 3 of 4 of Buddy's goals we're gift wrapped from Wayne Campbell and I am not counting the others they got and we didn't in similar circumstances.
Other than that a competitive effort by the boys. The better team didn't win IMHO. Had more of the footy just do not know how to use it.
-
ellis at 3 qtr time 7 turners ... 3 goals
should get 3 votes for best sydney player
-
Ellis 2 tackles
Conca 1 tackle
In a ruck mauling game those stats are awful
-
ellis 10 turnovers for the game - wow
-
They wear themselves out by over using the ball & moving it with handball when a long kick would be better with free players up the ground. Junk Time Jack many times chasing kicks down field & being caught out when we had no-one to go too when we got the ball. TANKING is real. Lets see if the club ask the umpires to please explain. If they don't then l can see no other reason but they are TANKING or Match Fixing. No other club changes the way they play like us after half time no-one
-
Do they flip a coin or something for holding the ball vs ball up?
Nope, they apply a simpler rule: If it's a Swan on the bottom of the pack it's a ball up. If it's a Tiger it's holding the ball. This applies doubly if it's Adam "Australian Of The Year" :lol Goodes.
-
Anyone else try and watch the "smart" replay on AFL.com? Not working for me but previous games are
-
We gotta get rid of jack.
He has currency.thay brooding stuffin soon has gotta go.
stuffs the whole team
Balance with his wacko brooding.
Can only play well against rubbish.
Hate the idiot
Lmao@ Coleman medal contention.
Ur stuffed.
