Not a bad little line up. Hope they play well. Love for our youngsters to find some form and pressure the hacks in the seniors.

Can someone explain to me the point of our stand alone VFL team if we aren't playing players in the correct positions?
I thought the biggest positive was having control of our 2nds team and be able to control where our young players are played and the game plan.
If someone can explain why Lennon who has played all his senior games up forward has been put in the backline at VFL level that would be wonderful.

All round footy education?
I wouldn't take much notice of the named team these days either.
I've got nothing else! :-\

Our first inside 50 and we score a goal to McCartney :gotigers after Lennon's inside 50 entry and strong body work from Elton.

Williams intercepts at HB. Off to Wynne to Gordon, dangerous kick but finds Helbig who gets 50m. To Wall who finds O'Hanlon 50m out on the boundary. Kicks it OOTF.

Quarter time
Richmond 2.1-13
Nth Ballarat 3.2-20
Goals: Arnot, McCartney
I'd reckon we'd be fairly happy with that given the Roosters had the breeze. Defended well.
-
First 3 goals of the quarter to us :gotigers :gotigers :gotigers
Arnot slotted through his second.
Arnot and McBean combine again and Stephenson runs into an open goal and grab the lead.
Then a coast-to-coast goal - Darrou to McCartney's who kicks into space and Lennon's pace sees him finish off comfortably.
The Roosters then got one back.
Rich 6.1-37

After the initial burst of goals to us, the Roosters are currently winning more possession. Tigers under pressure and struggling to move forward.
37 - 29
-
Arnot dumps a Rooster after the kick so it's a downfield free and goal to Nth Ballarat.
37 - 35
-
Pathetic last 10 minutes. Got the breeze yet can't win or keep hold the footy so the ball has spent all the time in the Roosters forward half.
We're trying to play counter-attack footy with the breeze :facepalm.

-
Half time
Richmond 2.1 6.1-37
Nth Ballarat 3.2 6.9-45
Goals: Arnot 2, Stephenson, Lennon, Banfield, McCartney
Kicked the first 4 goals of that qtr to lead by 16 then went to sleep for the final 15 minutes :banghead.

just out of interest, any current players or coaches in the crowd?

LOL..oops ok
-
For some weird reason, we were trying to score goals on the rebound from defence by congesting the defensive corridor rather than winning the ball in the midfield. North Ballarat had all the ball in that last 15 mins and when we did have the ball it was too deep and apart from a couple of breakouts we mostly turned over the footy coming out of defence and gave it straight back to the Roosters. Lucky they didn't kick straight.
-
I've got to head off shortly. If someone can post score updates and goalscorers during the second half, it'll be much appreciated :).

Don't run, don't chase, can't remember how to shephard, SOFT!

Elton is finished. Arnott is finished. Already too late for them and anyone else who has been there more than three years.

I'm dreading the day that Vlastuin pulls out of a contest but it will happen,

Whilst ur correct, it boils down to pathetic leadership from the coach which trickles down to the players.
Fancy not elevating Miles.
This is symbolic of his close minded, rudderless occupation of Punt road

Really, Miles has displayed his abilities from day one in the pre-season, thru the VFL matches and now in the AFL.
Don't know that Miles has been developed at all by Richmond.
If anything we've held back his development by playing him in the VFL.
So we have tried really hard to reverse his natural development.

1st year standalone. This alone will give the club a idea what coaches will get the axe & then the following season. There are alot of listed players who were not playing so this alone has a impact & then of course you got the other club players coming in who are just not up to the pace for 4 quarters. No-one cares how they perform this year. They are still planning. It will take 5 years just to sort out. Then another 5 years to get used to playing together. Then when those 5 year players who started retire the next 5 year players arrive to meet the existing 5 year players, plop plop plop. Richmond need to recruit some serious coaches who have actually coached their own sides. Bringing in AFL players just out of retirement is never going to work. & resting players who have suspected injury's ;D :shh These clowns need to be playing for their futures not resting mid season. weak as pee

VFL Tigers overrun by Roosters
John Lindon
June 22, 2014 9:50 PM
Despite competing well early, the Tigers couldn’t match a strong-finishing North Ballarat and were defeated by 60 points at Eureka Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Roosters booted ten goals to two in the final term which proved to be the difference in what was a tough, tight, scrappy affair in slippery conditions.
Ruckman Orren Stephenson kicked three goals, marked strongly in defence and was the dominant ruckman on the ground. Brad Helbig continued his run of form and thrived during his spells in the midfield that saw him collect 24 disposals and five inside 50s.
After a close opening term, the Tigers came out firing in the second and booted four goals in quick succession to take the lead.
Liam McBean didn’t impact the scoreboard himself but always looked to help his teammates. He forced a turnover that created a Matt Arnot goal and the pair combined only moments later to set up Stephenson’s first of the game.
While he didn’t find a lot of the ball, Arnot’s 17 disposals at 94% efficiency ensured he had an impact.
Ben Lennon, who impressed in his return to VFL level with 24 possessions and five clearances, also hit the scoreboard by using his pace to escape an opponent and finish well, but the Roosters responded and led at the main break.
Nick Wynne was again a consistent contributor and worked tirelessly at stoppages to finish with a team-high 27 disposals. Todd Banfield tackled well while Matt McDonough, Nathan Batsanis and Aaron Davey provided run-and-carry.
The Tigers couldn’t reduce the deficit in a low-scoring third term as the sides traded goals but they again scored early in the last to get within three points.
From then on it was all North Ballarat who piled on ten unanswered goals to hand the Tigers a heavy defeat that didn’t convey the hard-fought, tight nature of the match.
NORTH BALLARAT 3.2 6.9 8.13 18.17 (125)
RICHMOND 2.1 6.1 8.4 10.5 (65)
Goals: Stephenson 3, Arnot 2, Lennon, Lloyd, Banfield, McCartney, McGough

“They [Richmond] were a bit like their AFL team on Friday night against Sydney – they weren’t converting their possessions into many inside-50s but when they did go down there, they were very efficient,” Roosters coach Gerard FitzGerald said.
“Their accuracy kept them in the game. Our inaccuracy hurt us, but in our last quarter we completely turned that on its head.”
Roosters’ fitness outclassed a tired-looking Tigers in the final term and powered the Roosters to a sixth consecutive win.

Fitness & the quality of the VFL listed players are clearly the main issues, the latter really do drag the side down.....Luke Wall was the only one who even looked close to VFL standard on Sunday. Been missing Contin too IMO......very underrated player.
-
Richmond VFL coach Tim Clarke's summary of how the AFL-listed players performed at VFL level:
Cadeyn Williams
19 disposals, 5 tackles
Had a run-with role on one of their better midfielders. Played his role well for two quarters but his opponent found the ball late. Probably his best offensive game.
Brad Helbig
24 disposals, 5 inside 50s
He was a solid contributor for us but was well beaten. It was his first game as a midfielder so it was really good to see him in there but we need a bigger effort from our midfielders.
Orren Stephenson
3 goals, 44 hit-outs
He was terrific again with his ruck work and gave our mids first use. Went forward and kicked three goals. His hands are much better now, he’s really marking the ball well.
Matt McDonough
22 disposals, 4 rebound 50s
Started down back and was solid but we needed something different in the last quarter so he played on ball. Got a few touches, was a bit messy but an OK game from him.
Ben Lennon
1 goal, 24 disposals, 5 clearances
First game in the midfield was solid without being great. Would’ve liked a bit more inside ball but also needs to continue working on his decision making.
Matt Arnot
2 goals, 17 disposals
Played mainly as an extra midfielder and also played inside at different stages. Was solid but we expect more from him. We feel he’s a high quality player and needs a better output to push for AFL selection.
Sam Lloyd
1 goal, 18 disposals, 5 marks
Was probably our best forward on the day. Won the ball well, put it inside 50 well and kicked a crucial goal. It’s his second good game in a row so he’s pushing for senior selection.
Brett O’Hanlon
17 disposals, 3 inside 50s
Was a bit down on previous weeks in terms of numbers but put the ball inside 50 and contributed to two or three goals. Once again we need our on-ballers getting more touches if we’re going to win games.
Ben Darrou
17 disposals, 6 rebound 50s
Our backs were pretty competitive all day. For three quarters he won his position. The last quarter was a dampener on his game but he was quite solid.
Nathan Gordon
17 disposals, 5 marks
Played well on the wing early then went out of the game a bit. We need a bigger performance from him, a stronger presence around contests and more outside ball.
Todd Elton
10 disposals
Played a mixture of forward, ruck and back - he’s a bit of a swingman at the moment. He’s playing really good footy, he’s improved his contested game but hasn’t been able to take a game by the scruff of the neck yet this year.
Todd Banfield
1 goal, 9 disposals, 10 tackles
Didn’t get too many touches but had a lot of tackles. We spoke to him about trying to contribute in some way if he’s not actually finding the ball and he was able to do that on the weekend.
Liam McBean
4 disposals
Had a disappointing day but there were several contests where he showed that he’s been improving in some areas we’ve been working on. He presented well and provided good contests, which resulted in goals, but he’s better than his output on the weekend.

Good to read this though can't help but wonder who "we" is.... remember similar things being said about Pat Contin in 2011.

Peter Burge strikes again?
yep but according the B.Gale no need for a major review of the football department
Hopefully just a minor review of the fitness department then! :thumbsup

Certainly nothing to get excited about but that mirrors the performance of our AFL side, in a rut with no real light at the end of the tunnel, quite depressing really >:(

Looks like Clarke not going to push for Arnot's elevation.

Arnott was poor. Very poor.
Think the very worst of Grigg, Ellis and Houli (as most on this site perceive them) all wrapped up in one.

So you don't think he should've been named as our 3rd best player ? Anyhow he did kick 2 goals which is more than the entire senior team could muster in a half of footy
