Title: If you want low draft picks, cheer on Melb, WB and Carlton
Post by: 🏅Dooks on June 21, 2014, 12:30:51 PM
did a review of the last 9~10 rounds for each team outside the 8, and i think the greatest threats to Richmond finishing as low as possible (other than a sudden burst of form from us) are Melbourne, Carlton and the Doggies.

GWS, Stk and Bris: all currently on 3 wins and probably wont win more than 2 from their last 10 based on their draw. the bottom 3 is locked in for mine. we arent a chance for a top 3 pick.

The next 3: WB, Carl and Richmond (7 wins)

WB ~ a tough draw and probably only 3 more wins. low percentage says theyll finish below us .
Carl ~ also a tough draw with only 3 more wins. again a lower percentage will see them finish below us i reckon
Rich ~ the easiest draw of the bottom 10 teams. ive got us at lowest finishing 6th bottom with 4 more wins (stk, bris, gws and stk again) taking us to 7 wins and a higher percentage. losses to port, wce away :pray Ess Adel and Syd. if we win one of those we will finish above:

Melbourne. should finish on 8 wins, 7th bottom.  Has an ok run home.

The next 3:

Ess, Wc and Adel. 9 wins to Ess and 10 to Adel and WC.

So i reckon pick 6 at best, pick 7 at worst. unless carlton and wb hit their straps, in which case maybe we can jag pick 4.

So in summary, pray for:~

~ Losses to teams Ess, Adel and WC. if we win 1 or more of these we are throwing away an advantage come draft time.
~ Carlton, WB and Melbourne to win the games they should and hopefully 1 or more upsets.

"Look as footy club we think we are a better side than 3-10 and we owe our supporters as many wins as possible"

Problem is the whole club suffers from fear of winning so no matter what we do the club is happy for us to make the odd finals appearance so long as the majority of years are spent in mid table out of the 8 mediocrity and worse building towards oblivion.

It's called the Skata Cycle. It stinks both on and off field and it ensures that we remain adrift from all other clubs in terms of finals appearances and success whilst the club re too frightened or are too comfortable in trying to change the club in a meaningful way by creating a culture and an environment conjucive to high performance and high on and off field rewards that come with it.

We'll find a way to stuff things up in a way nobody else would.

I find the full quote more worrying

"At the end of the day, if you put in a 3-10 season you're not going to get crowds," Hardwick said after the loss to the Swans, which came after the Tigers were 26 points up midway though the second quarter.

"We've got to make sure we start winning some games to get people back.

"We like to think we play an exciting brand of footy. Tonight was probably a war of attrition more so than anything else, but we've got to make sure we do ourselves a favour and win some games."

The mindset is the bad part. .i read that as:  if we play our oldest 22. We should beat to a couple sides. And climb up to 9th. Apparently these in reality (given the draft system) meaningless wins, will somehow make crowds go up - cause richmond fans will attend in bigger numbers if we come 12th instead of 17th. The side effects that worries me if the kids will not get game time, and the get worse draft position

What's best for richmond winning a flag and richmond winning the next game are not always the same thing

The whole club mindset is wrong JR.
It's bleeding obvious that PR in the club is at the lowest it has been during Dumma's tenure and that it is believed that meaningless wins between now and the end of the season will limit the damage in terms of a membership fall for next season. Nothing could be further from the truth.

As always this club gets it wrong and always goes for the short term answer.

It's a simple equation, keep playing Hampson for the rest of the year and we won't win another game...Fackt ;)

And yet if Elton instead was being played winning would be acceptable

It would be. It would be the skata running around now were just depth or lack of for the kids doing the job.

Instead we have skata.

Last 32 years we've been outstanding BJ, second to none. Premierships, top 4 finishes, countless wins, never say die instincts, comeback wins, milestones the envy of the AFL.
We've made the Hawthorn era of the 80's look like something from a fantasy kids novel.
Get back in chair BJ, I'm sure someone will wake you when anything we do is positive and aint tokenistic.

Absolutely spot on Don.  Playing the same hacks that have let us down so far this year (when we have supposedly been playing our best 22) is the one sure and guaranteed way to see our membership plummet because it will demonstrate that development in our club is dead and there is no hope for the future.  FFS play the kids (the ones that have been on the list for a couple of years) and give them a chance to show if they are worth keeping or not.  At least give the supporters some reason to hope and believe because sadly at present there is no hope and nothing to believe in.

if the club is worried about attendance, i reckon they should play the kids. people would prefer to watch kids than the same old squibs

ive been doing exactly that for weeks on end now.  at the start of the yr i thought we could finish as low as 14th if things did not go our way.   i said this because i dont believe there is a huge gap between many sides.
regardless of where we finish up there are about 10 12 sides all within a bulls roar of each other and it doesnt take much to derail any of em.

Go Carlton, Melbourne, Brisbane, St Kilda and Western Sydney  :thumbsup

If you want better crowds, start playing quick attacking football! Not this Sydney 2005 style which is 9 years old Hardwick  :banghead

Jack Riewoldt was right! The game has gone in one direction and we have gone the other way.

Giants beat the Bluebaggers so we're down to 16th (& the 3rd draft pick).

Saints 7 pts up on the Eagles at 1/4. If they cause an upset we'll drop below them as well.

the whole club is rooted from top to bottom. theyre a bunch of delusional delinquents who think that they are doing a good job. I hate to see what happens when they  think there doing a bad job.

It depends clawsy on whether we put players in for surgery or keep trying to win.
I think we're better than quite a few sides around us on the ladder and we're playing a lot of them shortly.
The club will have to 'experiment' quite a bit ala Melbourne (2009) if we're to finish in the bottom few.

we seem to be losing quite okay without having to do a thing.  dont kid yourself oldy there isnt much between us and those sides around us.  anyway they dont have the brains to try different personell so we can look fwd to more of the same.
