Title: Establish a 'Winning Culture' or Tank
Post by: Stripes on June 23, 2014, 12:00:41 PM
After the highs of last year - Its a sad time  :'(. Takes me back to the 'bad old days' but here we go again -

What focus should we have for the rest of this year? Win at all costs or Tank, play the kids if they earn it or play the kids regardless, experiment with positions or consolidate roles, regain a winning culture or look to the draft? Lots of questions and lots of opinions.

Fire away - what would you have us do?

You are misguided in your dogmatic belief laying Grigg, Chaplin, houli etc every game = establish winning culture

Your premises is flawed

I share the same view that many on this board and possibly 99% of RFC supporters have and that is players like Arnot, and Elton need more regular gigs in the premiership rounds because their counterparts ie. Thomas, and Aaron Edwards aren't offering diddly squat + they have no upside.

At the end of the day players which kill it in the VFL need to be rewarded and players which fluff around in the AFL consistently need to be sent to the VFL. That is the keystone of the culture we need to breed but are severely lacking.

Tank (if that's what you want to call it, i call it development) - play the kids that are going to be our future when we will be successful.
Absolutely no point in playing those that have tried and failed miserably or on their last legs.

I think we try to win but if there's no plan to have you on the list beyond this season then you don't get a game. Kid or no kid.

The results will look after themselves but it's important that the club (or at least the players) try to win, of that I have no doubt.

Reckon both will yield the same results.

Reckon both will yield the same results.

Sadly they may be true.  >:(

I want to play the kids if they are ready but still aim to win. I thought we had great depth at the start of the season but I can't see that now. Love to play Helbig or Arnot for Morris (depending on the roles - defensive forward or small defender), Darrou for Grimes (if match ups work) and O'Hanlon for Ellis. I wouldn't want them all to come in at once but their call ups should be staggered.  :thumbsup

15 wins last year = winning culture? fat lot of good that's done us a year later.

Develop more kids and give them a go.

I think there is a distinct difference between playing the kids and injury management versus playing your ruckman as a small defender, your 192cm CHF in the ruck and benching your best players late in games.  ;D

It's a funny thing, you know. ;D

If they tried to be this bad they couldn't be any worse.

That's just where we are as a club at the moment.........
