I wonder if the media will report that after a call to the club, Jakey flew to Perth to bring over the kid Nate (whom Jake is his favourite player) so Nate could be in the middle of the circle for the theme song.
Well done Jakey and the RFC.

Poor little bloke - when you see the tragedy of a 4 y/o in that predicament, breaks the heart and brings back reality of what really matters.
-
What's the story with the kid?
I know he's crook but how'd the club get involved?

I know he's crook but how'd the club get involved?
Will be full story about it tomorrow's HUN
But from what they are saying twitter jake king flew to Perth and bought the kid over for the weekend. Little tackers birthday tomorrow, Kingy is his favourite player.
Anyway Kingy spent the entire day with him. Bought him into the rooms after the game and put him in the circle to sing the song, then presented him with a birthday cake.
Cotch gave him the Stewart medal he won today.
It's been a terrible season and this footy club hasn't given me many reasons to be proud of them
But today with what they've done for that little boy and his family....well for that I am bloody proud of them today
We'll done RFC :clapping :clapping

Just read on 3AW that Nate's family contacted the club to see if they could a jumper signed by Kingy. Kingy came with the idea of going over to Perth and bringing the tacker over with his family. Club organised it with help from Virgin re the flights.

Birthday surprise: Jake’s happy to be King of the kids

RICHMOND hardman Jake King didn’t mind the tagger tracking his every step.
Wherever King went, he made sure little cancer patient Nate Anderson was right beside him.
It was an incredible birthday surprise for the gravely ill fighter, who turns five Sunday, and counts himself as King’s number one fan.
Last week Nate’s nurse wrote to Richmond asking the Tigers for a signed jumper for her patient.
But King decided to go a step further, flying to Perth to surprise the youngster with a knock on the door.
Nate was stunned as his family were picked up for a whirlwind trip to Melbourne to watch Richmond beat St Kilda.
An emotional King said it was a fitting end to the day as Richmond players sang Happy Birthday to their young charge.
“The young fellow is going through a tough time; the family is struggling at the moment, and it is something you don’t wish upon anyone,” King said.
“It is something myself and the club were able to do. It is not going to solve the problem for the family, but it is one of those things that can make a massive difference to Nate.
“I was asked to sign a footy and do a live cross, and I wasn’t playing footy, so I thought we could go one better and I wanted to give him the jumper personally.
“He was in Perth and it is great that we were able to get him to come across here.
“The kid is four years old, you don’t wish that upon anyone.”
King said he was proud Richmond was able to help out for what was a very good cause.
“I guess that’s part of the power you hold as a professional athlete and as a football player, so if we get the chance it and help someone out, then you would do it every day of the week.”
Tigers media manager Simon Matthews said Nate couldn’t wipe the smile off his face. It was an uplifting end to the week for King after photos were revealed of him on Thursday with ex-bikie hard man Toby Mitchell.
King has been urged to end his association with Mitchell who posted on social media pictures of himself and other mates with the Tigers forward.
King has appeared with Mitchell at fight nights, including at Melbourne Pavilion in Flemington earlier this month.

Yep bloody gutless by Bruce Matthews and the HUN for bringing up the Mitchell stuff.
It was Nate's day and HE DESERVED better than those last few lines of that article
-
I couldn't agree with you 2 guys more - it was a heartless, gutless and insensitive way to finish off an article that had nothing to do with King's association with Mitchell. It was a fantastic gesture by the club and Jake, and that type of gutter reporting had no place in the article yet is so symptomatic of what's wrong with 'journalism' in this country in general.
So proud of the club and their role in this - if RFC get one thing consistently right it's their involvement in the community. Well done to the club and I hope that young Nate had the best day of his life!! :gotigers

To be fair to the co-authors of the article, it was the HS editors who added in the extra lines, not the journos.
-
Beautiful, tough kid.
Doesn't like cotchn. Lmao.

then they are the pathetic ones and need to be told so.

Lmaoo
Typical.
Shift the Blame.
Like the club, they're all in on it, otherwise they'd QUIT!
-
To be fair to the co-authors of the article, it was the HS editors who added in the extra lines, not the journos.
Then the club should make the loudest possible protest at those lines being added.
The article should be there for the family to keep.
They don't need totally irrelevant rubbish being added onto by the editors!!!!!
Very poor form from a vey poor newspaper.
-
pretty gutless, really, to add a cheap snipe like that when someone else has their name to the article.
-
As crictical a lot of us have been over our great club this year, its times like this you sit back and think yeah we are the best club in the land.
Absolutely brilliant, classy stuff RFC.
Proudly, Richmond till I die.
-
Dont u see the irony?
This is Kingy.
Flew HIMSELF to pick up the boy and flew them both back etc.
They treat king like poo.
Always have.
Yet they're in for the photo op asap!!!
As for editors adding the sensationalist lines - what a crock of poo
-
A fantastic thing done by King and the Club. I hope the boy had a fantastic day and that this helps him and his family fight this dreadful disease. Agree totally with the comments about the standard of journalism re: newspaper article. King and King contributed to the community newspaper didn't.

Seems us OERite's aren't the only ones who think the Hun a pack of low-life scumbags for that disgraceful addendum to Nate's story. A petition has been started on change.org:

Nate and Jake
Jake King and his teammates made it a dream come true for seriously ill, young Tiger supporter Nate Anderson late last week. Richmond flew Nate and his family to Melbourne, so he could be a special guest at last Saturday's clash with St Kilda at Etihad Stadium.

Watched it during my lunch break at work. Not the best place to watch something that emotional!! Well done RFC and well done Jake King. And that's the reason I can't ever walk away from this club despite their best efforts to frustrate me to madness. They are something special in my life - now, then and always.

RFC email:
Earlier this season, Jake King and the Richmond players met special Tiger fan Nate. Now we need your help.
Richmond has entered the video of Jake and Nate into the Virgin Australia Film Festival, to show that Everything’s Possible when it comes to the impact that football can have on a special Tiger like Nate.
Like, share or comment (https://www.stuff.com/virginaustralia/posts/10152191531466990) on the video of Nate and Jake – if Richmond’s video wins, the Club will use the prize of international flights to send Nate and his family on a holiday to the US.
Help us make Nate a winner.

Richmond Tigers help fulfil Nate Anderson’s dream
Sarah Olle
Foxsports.com.au
May 26, 2016
WHEN the Tigers ran out on to a rain-soaked Subiaco Oval on Friday, they were accompanied by their adopted mascot, Nate Anderson.
Despite having a prosthetic leg, Anderson burst on to the ground, belying his six years and battle with leukaemia.
In doing so, he achieved his dream of running through the Richmond banner with the players who had been so instrumental in lifting his spirits during his cancer battle.
One of those players, Jack Riewoldt, said Anderson was now a part of the furniture at the club.
“He’s been our little warrior over there for the past four years now,” Riewodlt told AFL 360.
“The club’s sort of adopted him and they look after his family.”
Anderson first came to the Tigers’ attention when they received word the young supporter was preparing for the fight of his life after a leukaemia diagnosis in 2014.
Former Richmond player Jake King flew over to Perth to meet Anderson and his family before paying for them to come to Melbourne for Anderson’s birthday. After the match — a win against St Kilda — the entire team sang happy birthday to their biggest fan.
Since then, Anderson has defeated cancer, but lost his leg through infection. Now a prosthetic limb adorned with Trent Cotchin’s face takes its place.
“Nate and his family are a part of the Richmond family now,” Riewoldt said.
“Whenever we go to Perth, we catch up with his family, he comes to training and he ticked off one of the things on his bucket list, with getting out there and running on the ground with us.
“It’s really rewarding as a player to be able to provide something like that for someone who’s having a tougher time than you are.
“Especially for some of our younger guys, who are drafted at 18 ... they get to see people who are less fortunate than themselves and they get to learn a lot from it about themselves through people like Nate.”
While footballers are seldom acknowledged for their charitable work, four time premiership Hawk Jordan Lewis said the benefit players reaped from that kind of interaction was reward enough.
The veteran midfielder said it put winning and losing into perspective.
“Maybe when you’re not winning and you’re not playing as well as you’d like to, you’re getting bashed in the media and bashed by everyone ... these kids just love the day,” he said.
“And that’s why footy clubs are so good, too, because we can bring kids in and give them an experience they wouldn’t get otherwise and just make them happy for the day.
“It takes them away from the illness they’re actually going through.”

Last week, our special mate Nate Anderson got the news that he’s out of remission and cancer free after eight years.
Today is his 13th birthday.
