RICHMOND succeeded in snapping a four-game losing streak on Saturday afternoon by beating St Kilda by 44 points at Etihad Stadium. However, after losses to Essendon, North Melbourne, Fremantle and the Sydney Swans, the Tigers are four games out of the eight at 13th on the ladder. The Brisbane Lions, after an emotional week when Jonathan Brown was forced to retire after yet another dangerous concussion, got up to beat the Kangaroos by four points at the Gabba. It was the resurgent team's third win in five weeks, which keeps them a game clear of the bottom-placed Saints.
WHERE AND WHEN: MCG, Saturday July 5, 1.45pm AEST
LAST FIVE TIMES
R5, 2014, Richmond 15.16 (106) d Brisbane Lions 9.9 (63) at Gabba
R20, 2013, Richmond 14.13 (97) d Brisbane Lions 11.8 (74) at MCG
R19, 2012, Richmond 20.12 (132) d Brisbane Lions 12.12 (84) at Gabba
R13, 2011, Richmond 18.17 (125) d Brisbane Lions 14.10 (94) at Gabba
R6, 2011, Richmond 18.16 (124) d Brisbane Lions 14.14 (98) at MCG
THE SIX POINTS
1. The Lions have only beaten the Tigers at the MCG once since 1989.
2. The Lions have struggled at the home of football recently. They've lost eight of their past 11 games there since the beginning of 2009.
3. While the Lions have been winning lately, they continue to struggle with inside 50s. They are ranked last in the League with just 41.9 per game. The Tigers are 12th with 48.9.
4. The Lions remain the worst contested marking side in the competition. They're taking an average of just 6.4 per game. The Tigers are 10th with 9.2.
5. Jack Redden is likely to miss with a foot injury, which will end his streak of 112 consecutive games. It's the fifth most games without missing from debut.
6. Tom Rockliff has soared in the Official AFL Player Ratings, brought to you by Gatorade. He started at No. 64 and is now 29th overall.
Prediction: Richmond by 15 points.

EFA, its going to be like a second coming of the gods

RICHMOND and Brisbane Lions fans will need to use pubic transport or leave their car away from the MCG this weekend following the complete closure of Yarra Park.
Recent rain has forced the entire car parking area to be closed to everyone including the public, media, disabled permit holders, emergency services personnel and event staff.
It was determined by the MCC, which manages Yarra Park, that a large portion of the surface would be at risk of damage if used by vehicles in the coming days.

Brisbane Lions aren’t concerned about their losing streak against Richmond ahead of clash
Herald-Sun
July 03, 2014 1:33PM
BRISBANE’S miserable record against Richmond has not been a topic of discussion at the Gabba this week in the build-up to Saturday’s clash between the big cats at the MCG.
The Tigers have beaten the Lions in 11 of the past 12 outings between the clubs stretching over the past 10 years with Brisbane’s solitary win in that time coming in Round 7, 2009.
Richmond, Sydney, Hawthorn and Fremantle are the four clubs that Brisbane have failed to beat since 2009.
Lions assistant coach Murray Davis said the only result that had come under the microscope was the 43-point loss to the Tigers on Easter Thursday this year.
“In the [Round 5] game here against Richmond at the Gabba we felt we had periods where we were in the game,” Davis said.
“We had lapses in concentration from stoppages and late in quarters.
“That’s what we have been talking about, the most recent stuff … we’ve got to go down to the MCG and fix that.”
Tigers spearhead Jack Riewoldt and Dustin Martin will be heavily targeted this weekend after putting Brisbane to the sword in Round 5.
Davis said Brisbane would also need a team approach to shutdown prolific ball-winners Trent Cotchin and Brett Deledio.
“We think that with our defenders we’ve got a good balance down there with Justin Clarke … and Joel Patfull is in good form as well,” Davis said.
“But it’s an individual thing as much as a team thing as well.”

If our admin had any nous they would have bulldozed Punt Road instead of redeveloping and turned it into a multi-storey car park, which at $30 per car all season would have secured the future of the club and been far more use than so-called training facilities.

So it appears no one gives a $&@? any more.
Brisbane not going away ....this is going to be a scrap till the finish.
-
I have to say our kicking to position is easily the worst in the competition. Our decision making under pressure is worst in the competition. It's schoolboy stuff and it's happening across the entire squad, from our so called elite players down to our deadwood players. It's simply painful to watch and it's no wonder we have only won a handful of games.
-
Watching it at home and have to say no, regrets about not going, just deplorable. Lozza pretty much sums it up, shocking football all round. Arent Brisbane playing 5 debutants? stuff me
Players marking 30-35 out and trying to dish it off - saw that about 5 times. Just rubbish football. Players purposely dinking 3 metre underground kicks now(several times!), now Ive seen it all.
The only thing keeping me from turning it off is watching the likes of Miles, Dea and Arnott and enjoying when they occasionally do something that gives you faith they have the tools to develop. Couple of times the way Arnott delved in won the hardball and explodes out of the pack is very good to see. Rance is just a beast, batchelor looks to have settled into the backline well the past few weeks.
-
2 points up ...but if I were a betting man - I would back brisbane
-
It's actually comical the way we immediately look to handpass no matter what the situation. Not creative harassing but tiny 1 metre ones. Lids on one occasion handpassed one metre to a teammate who was clearly covered. Even when we get in the clear we double back, no straight running and in addition we are slow as treacle.
-
We are fair dinkum pathetic.........we have many years ahead diwn the bottom
-
Possession football for little results. :clapping
Handball happy. :clapping
U- turns a plenty. :clapping
Don't kick unless your going backwards :clapping
Don't kick unless its a dinky chip sideways. :clapping
Don't shephard. :clapping
Allow easy rebound from our forward 50 by the opposition. :clapping
And under no circumstances kick the ball to advantage. :clapping :clapping
Awesome game plan. :clapping :clapping :clapping
:gotigers
-
We are getting smashed out othe middle nd around the packs.......
-
Hackson back to his ball butchering best.......Cochin not far away :banghead
-
Ugly ugly football tigers....and not the Paul Roos premiership winning style of ugly football either.
This is making my eyes bleed.
-
What the hell is wrong with a kick to the goal square, continual kicking to the pocket is driving me crazy. Surely it's more dangerous going to the top of the square. Jackson clearly will not kick to the goal square, had two opportunities and went pocket both times, just don't understand. :banghead :banghead

Hence why some have had enough and start calling for the coaches head. Clearly is a tactic
-
Concrete the bastard.
There has been a suggestion to build a multi storey car park over the Jolimont railyards for 20 years, why the heck not, straight in the car onto the freeways south east, west or north west.
-
Hollow hollow win, like watching two drunks having a fight. Pathetic skills, poor positional play and slow as slow can be. If Hardwick takes anything out of this game other than the 4 points then he is clearly delusional.
-
I got absolutely nothing from that game except that Miles is a gun and Arnot needs to play every week to adjust to the tempo vs VFL

I want to win every game, I just got absolutely no enjoyment from watching that one is what I meant. Horrible game in terms of skills and general play.

The standard of game that I just witnessed was deplorable worse than the Sydney game.
Froze my nuts off again. Should have stayed home with my coffee in front of the telly watching it and if I was lucky the hood lady would have made some cheese toasties.
No true RFC fan unless they are under 7 can be happy with a win like that. Skills and game plan are non existent. Players doing the natural opposite of what they are taught. We can't do or are currently incapable of doing the basics. I don't know if they are told to do that, if so why and what purpose it serves or we just drained the gene pool of dumb footballers on the draft and off other clubs lists. It just boggles the mind.
We won and there are more questions than answers. As I said it boggles the mind but this can only be applicable to one club, the RFC. :help

:clapping top post & the reason l will never attend another Richmond game. Come end of season l will never renew my membership. There is no need when you are never going to watch that slop ever again. l done & so are all my family & friends who watch the game here today. PATHETIC handballs to players who had opposition players right behind them :banghead The Richmond Football Club can get stuffed
-
Its sad case of every player being brainwashed into handball merchants, do they sit each one in a chamber and stick electrodes to their skulls? They would handball running into an open goal from 5 metres if they could. So many opportunities for someone to take the game by the scruff of the neck today and for some reason they want to play ring a ring a rosy into the goal square, kick the effing thing FFS!! :banghead :banghead
-
the look on the coaches face told alot about today.
-
the look on the coaches face told alot about today.
I think the word is "clueless", he simply has no idea what to do to make this team click. It was obvious today that our lack of speed especially later in games is killing us, we simply cannot keep up with opponents. Of course the way to combat this would be to maintain possession but of course with our poor skills we are unable to do these either. So basically we cant hold onto the ball and when not in possession we cant keep up with the opposition, recipe for prolonged failure.

Yep, and that's why he has to go. He might be a good coach in certain situations but for this playing group, now, he is no good.
It was obvious today that our lack of speed fitness/hardness/effort/intent especially later in games is killing us, we simply cannot keep up with opponents.
edited for accuracy

Must admit today I witnessed a brand of football that in nutshell was awful. Not really sure how to describe it.
I know me and my 50 year old mates can do better..lol
-
Pathetic joke of a list.
The Immaturity is ridiculous.
Sooks.
Psychologically weak as pee.
Employees not players.
Clubs NEVER been in this bad shape
-
Players are trying to have the coach sacked & l got no doubt at all Hardwick will resign at seasons end or before it. He has simply had enough of the Richmond Football Club being run by the playing group. Its as simple as that. Alot of infighting happening. l say sack some of the players. The club needs to be rid of these types of footballers.
I reckon you're right.
stuff supporting a club with weak-minded individuals like that.
I hate 'em
I don't care who that offends because they've stuffed my head up for the last time.
A win - who gives a stuff

Ugliest game of the year

I see on BF the usual clown posters are justifying dimmas non selection of arnot bc he had a quiet game, but will justify some other spuds continued inclusion bc they had a good game against cellar dwellars - Bunch of hypocritical sillys :lol

Probably right there Ox.
But struth we aren't the only ones playing ugly.
Actually looking forward to next week against Port. We'll probably get smashed but at least with it being Port you'll get some good footy to watch. Port play exciting footy.
On today's game can't really take a thing out of it apart from the form of Rance. He was fantastic again.

One thing for certain after today
Reckon Arnott has played his last game
Good VFL
No where near AFL standard
Subbed off accordingly
-
Interesting comment jack.
A few people where I was sitting made a similar comment.Cant seem to step up to AFL level at this stage.

Yep thought he looked lost today. Actually said to someone that all these kids who got a chance today didn't do themselves any favours. Also thought Dea had some poor moments
My biggest disappointment today was Foley. His decisions and skills were shocking
-
Nathan really disappointed me today, just when I though he was starting to make good progress. He appears to have lost leg speed which just might the killer for him

How about Hardwick actually play him as an inside mid and not a forward pocket? Seems like Dumma & you need to both get a stuffing clue.

He isn't alone but the degradation of our quality of play has been stark this season.
Some say the coach, some say the players some blame the club.
Whatever it is we are back to Spud Frawley footy.
It feels as hollow tonight after a win as it did after the McMahon win over Melbourne in 2009.
We are nowhere right now. :'(

No if Thomas had been played in the forward pocket like Arnot was we'd be laughing at Hardwick's stupidity just like we are now.

Given where the club is on field Thomas is not the answer, not saying Arnot is but need to give him a block of games to see if the kid can actually play at this level.
Thomas is a rookie elevation, Arnot if good enough can lay long term for us.
We need to find out. I just don't see the love for a player who albeit gets it but is very poor in his disposal. The mantra that Dimma signed off on when he first came in terms of players who can kick will play has clearly been thrown out the window. Especially with Matt Thomas and especially that he was brought from another club.
-
I watched some of the telecast on 7. We are a shambles, I knew we were in trouble but what we should today is just rubbish.
Hopefully port lose this week and we recieve the final nail in the coffin next week, it may be the only way things change.
Dimma needs to throw out these plans an start again

I see on BF the usual clown posters are justifying dimmas non selection of arnot bc he had a quiet game, but will justify some other spuds continued inclusion bc they had a good game against cellar dwellars - Bunch of hypocritical sillys :lol
Got to play Thomas next week against his old side of course. :help
No doubt poor old Arnot will make way. :help
If Thomas had a game with arnots output today, there'd be a chorus to drop him, fair call ::)
Thomas avg 21 disposals a game at 76% disp eff , this knock on his disposal is horse poo, time for some new material ::)

You cannot see the forest from the trees BJ. As I said I can't see the love for him that you have.
At 76% with 21 disposals means 5 are clangers. Furthermore even if you miss a target by two metres yet a teammate has time to get to the ball first even a split second before he gets tackled or his opponent it is still deemed an effective disposal.
Here is a pertinent example. Today at 3/4 time on the scoreboard our disposal efficiency was listed at 78%. Given what we saw if we were travelling at 78% in real terms we would be tracking better than any of the top four sides or very close to. Our skill level was so abhorrent today that it clearly shows that the way disposal efficiency is flawed. Yet a guy handballing and hitting a teammate one metre away going sideways or backwards it deemed an effective disposal.
Like most things in life its not quantity but quality. Thomas is just an in and under player who can get a handball out to the feet of the black and yellow socks he sees in traffic but he is a terrible kick and as I said even his handballs aren't straight at a player. As I said quality over quantity but keep trying to tell me Thomas is what we need at RFC gong forward. :help
Time to get some new material BJ. That record you are continually spinning didn't even make top 40 all those years ago. :lol :rollin :lol

was trying to finish painting one of the kids bedrooms today. thought about sitting down and watching the game but thought who gives a stuff. stopped for a break at half time watched the third q and a bit of the last and thought sheesh no more of this crap get back to the painting.
its sad in a way all i can think of is how much nothing wins against stkilda and lions will hurt us. we dont give enough chances to non favorites we play horrid footy and all we are doing is what we always do win a few nothing games late in the yr to help justify their positions and in some warped way prove to the unthinking that we are somehow better than what we are.
if it wasnt for so much anguish over the last 30 yrs it would be hilarious.

It is hilarious to everyone else.
Surely I'm not the only one that sees people giggle when I tell them I support the tigers.
RFC, the joke of the AFL 32 years and counting.

What's the point - we're not going win a flag in the next year or two and after that they're all going to be shared between GC & GWS for at least a decade which on top of all the other poo turning people away will probably kill the game off anyway.
Should sell the club to Real Madrid and join the A-League.

I reckon Collingwood are readying themselves for the next decade too.
They look young, very quick and they seem to keep unearthing players from late picks in the draft.
All this and unlike us they still are consistent finals contenders.
I also think that, unlike us, Collingwood, the hawks and Geelong will probably find a way to keep themselves in the top half even when their stars retire.
I guess we will soon find out if they'll be able to compete with the newbies when they dominate the comp. I'm certain of one thing though.......
.....we will be faithfully fighting for 9th, satisfied with the odd finals appearance every 8-12 years. :clapping

That was hilarious. The blind faith in Hardwick's selections and potting posters for picking Arnot. Last I checked Dimma picked Arnot yesterday not forum posters. :lol

I just wish to confirm that I did not hijack Monkys account on OER and that anyone making any such suggestion could face defamation proceedings ;D
;D if anyone wanted to hijack my account they can have it. l send most my info via phone these days & don't tell so many what really goes on down at the garbage dump lol :lol

Agree with that MOL. Haven't seen it sung with less gusto for a long time.

Maybe they relise every 2nd player lions had was 18 years old and it wasn't much of an accomplishment ?

Totally.
Even Jacktard mumbled his self appointed "Me Moment".
Brooding lil stuff he is

did the club put the song online?

SNIP :banghead
Can't keep the insults out of the discussion, then it and the posts inspiring the insults gets snipped >:(

In any weather you will see us with a grin
Risking head and skin
If we’re behind
we’ll never mind
we’ll fight and fight and win
oh where from tigerland
we never weaken til the final siren goes
like the tigers of old
we’re strong and we’re bold
oh we’re from tiger
-YELLOW AND BLACK-
oh we’re from tigerland

I agree about Collingwood. They are not afraid to make a tough call on it's players which has helped them get some very good kids into their program over the last couple of years.
They have some really good young talent running around in their twos. We have nothing really.

did the club put the song online?
Yea I bloody love it :dancing

Very little positives out of this game. It showed how poor our disposal is and decision making is. Dinky short kicks not hitting targets. Over handpassing. Thought O'Hanlon showed abit and whilst Arnot did not get many possessions his tackle in the third quarter was a ripper. Worsfold on seven questioned whether the loss of Leppa and Campbell impacted on our season this year but most damning for me was Ellis on channel 9 saying he didn't know why things had gone so badly this year. If the club does not know why things went crap this year we are in serious trouble.
-
Arnot looked good when he was around the ball. Unfortunately he didn't get to play as the in and under midfielder that he is. Instead we had the hacks in there butchering the ball and losing the hard ball.
Stopped watching at the end of the third quarter. Was totally disgusted. We managed to struggle over the line against another bottom team. Meanwhile Carlton belted St Kilda. I can't motivate myself to watch that last quarter. The club has delivered a new level of disappointment this year.
The least they could have done for us after this season was a high draft pick and getting games into the kids.

No Tigers ended up on the MRP roulette wheel this week.
Patrick Keane @AFL_PKeane twitter: "Tom Rockliff 1 game striking A Rance, penalty impacted by bad record."

Chaplin not cited over when he ran into the Brisbane player who had head down?
Thought it was weeks live.

Who was Justin Clarke?
-
Shankwards had a rare good one...but 9 votes? Would explain the standard of the game, both coaches were clearly drunk....
Who was Justin Clarke?
Brisbane's #42 - rebounding defender.
-
LOL 9 votes. Would agree with 2-3
I thought Clarke was a tall defender playing on Reiwoldt? Maybe that's why he comes across as a quick rebounding defender ;D

I did see Patfull playing on him but I thought I saw Clarke on him more. I didn't go so if you did I'd have to take your word for it.
