Richmond has been the most accurate set shot team in the competition, having kicked at 67.4 per cent putting it just ahead of Hawthorn (67.2) and the Sydney Swans (67.0) in 2014.

Percentage is meaningless in this case.

Sure Richmond is on 67.4 ahead of Hawthorn 67.2 and Sydney 67.0

But the Tigers have only kicked 1399pts vs hawthorn (1826) and Swans (1547)

The real take home message should be that Hawthorn have been able to get the ball into Bruest and Gunston's hands so many times and as a result slot it through the big sticks. 80-90% of the time.

Accuracy percentage goes up when you only try to score once in a while

If that happened 80-90% of the time their percentage would be 80-90%  ;D

:lol true. The 'problem' lies in the rest of the team's ability to take set shots. I use the term 'problem' because it's not like they're struggling to put goals on the scoreboard.

Similarly Tony Lockett's set shot % was something ridiculously good. Unfortunately not all of St.K/Sydney were as good from a set shot.

Which brings me to the question, why do you think Jack's set shot accuracy has been crap this year? He's normally gun-barrel straight

Wish there was an answer to why he's kicking stuffed because you used to be able to back him every time now you just sit and hope

Martin and Lids have iffy set shots as well. On the run from outside the 50 you'd back them 999/1000. But 40m out on a slight angle and they seem to have trouble slotting it through the middle.

I reckon Lids has an ugly looking set shot at goal, looks like he tries to replicate a running shot on goal

I agree, he has this weird swinging from right to left action like he's trying to take a free kick in soccer. I'm thinking maybe because he tries to kick the skin off the ball when really he just needs to slot it (although his set shot against Port was fantastic even though the kicking action was weird)?

Yeah looks like he tries to hammer it through every time. Saying that I reckon Schultz set shot is ugly but he doesn't miss too often so I guess it depends how it works for the individual
